Gary Ayres Medal

Don't mind the idea, but don't see why Ayres is being honored in particular. Achieved an amazing amount, but is hardly a revered figure in football.

If it's for the player of the finals and not the player of the grand final, who in living memory has had an enormous finals series? Bartlett? Ablett?

Stephen Silvagni in 1995.

More fuel for the Victorial circle jerking crew. Im all for a finals MVP why name it after someone other then the reason that Victorians love giving each other wristies

Should be called the Shaun Burgoyne Medal. Just pure class in Finals. A big game performer and in Finals.

I'm fed up with Hawthorn being awesome, but would love to see Shaun Burgoyne be inaugural winner of the Shaun Burgoyne Trophy.

Would happily have it named after Andrew McCleod. Maybe not the five premierships of Gary Ayres but equal with him on two Norm Smith Medals. And somehow just more iconic than Ayres.

I'm hoping that someone plays three best on ground performances in a side that win the flag but loses this award to a player who happened to play four games and was second best or so in them.

Stats, you can wipe your arse with his stats, he was only just above shit. His name got him that vote!
Watch the game again. He was good. Our best midfielder behind Selwood and Guthrie. I'm not sure Clarko and Scott would be swayed by his 'name'.

Given Ayres' finals record as a player it's aptly named (bit of a shame some fellow Cats supporters getting their knickers in a knot about though especially on their respective facebook groups. They could show a tad more humility and respect). That said definitely a good award to give to the best mullet.

Are they going to award it based on votes per game or total votes?
Seems unfair that a player from GWS/Geelong only gets 3 chances for votes.

Like the medal idea but the rules need a rethink. If either one of Geelong or GWS had got up, then their players would have been at a disadvantage for the medal having played less games than us and Sydney. It should be based on the player's best 3 results over the series.

Good idea.

But then, if you play 4 pearlers you've done better than the guy who played 3 pearlers...
