Rewatched game.
ROB was great, especially last quarter. If he had an elite kick he could almost be the best ruck in the league. Well, top 3 anyway.
Keays really good. Always puts in 100% and has a fairly good career ahead of him.
Laird was very good. Likely our best mid tonight.
MCrouch very good.
BCrouch better than I first thought.
Sloane was desperate as usual and was pretty good.
Jones after rewatching did some good stuff. Actually was chasing very hard along with McAdam. Jones just needs games and confidence and needs to take the game on a bit more in close. Use his legs instead of short handballs that can sell other players into trouble. Just needs more strength to break the tackle.
Fog seemed a bit quiet. Took a good mark at the end but needs to lose some weight and get much fitter.
Very impressed by McAdam. The penny has dropped and he and Stengle are both very good. I feel McAdam can go to another level with better fitness and strength. Ditto Stengle.

just needs to get 30-40 games of experience under his belt i suppose.. he’s so evasive, opposition players just cant seem to get their hands on him once he’s got the ball.

Agree with this, all the stupid flapping last year from people saying he 'wasn't fast enough' looks pretty stupid.

If a player is good enough (and lucky enough to come into a club which has sorted their sh*t out), they'll be fine.

The main reason not to is the $10k bonus given to the 1st round pick. Hopefully an insignificant drop in the ocean come the end of their career, but it's

Only a fool would disregard both an easy way to generate goodwill with a player as well as to reinforce that we have their best interests at heart. Especially for a club that has struggled with player retention, we need to maximise the goodwill from every possible angle.

Wrong trade. Most of the Lever trade collateral (in terms of 1st round picks, though we'd end up getting a 2nd back) went to acquiring Gibbs. The McGovern trade became McHenry (Sydneys 1st) + McAdam + no one (Carltons 5th round pick 2019) once all was said and done.
The other picks still get $5k. What a weird point to make.

Honestly, I don't understand how anyone can post that like it's even remotely relevant, especially next to ACTUAL points - like bidding on players who you genuinely rate as the next best, bidding so that your opposition have to use the true value of points, saving a teenager from overwhelming fishbowl scrutiny in Adelaide which a pick 1 will get, etc.

Berg is improving - looks confident at this level now

Schoenberg is a footy player. Full stop.

Jones getting back to where he can be - games and confidence and he’ll be good.

Stengle, Macadam and Murphy as nice small forwards (that pass in the first quarter by Muprh!)

O’Brien is Getting better and better.

Poholke... sorry nah.

Is anyone missing Lynch??

Look we all know who Mackay is, but full credit to him - he has shown great character this year.

Scholl looks the goods

Damn I like winning.

Ugly : The hawks. They were really bad. Crows circa 2020 bad. Never thought I'd see Clarko coaching such a bad looking side. Would back him in to turn it around though but they do need an injection of talent.
Yes they were awful. I don’t think we were particularly good, just they were worse.

5 day break vs our 9 day break

Also you can see we played our strongest midfield possible and they went into development mode as Clarko promised.

Not weird, pragmatic.

Money is everything in this world and it is much easier to build good faith with someone when they've got 10k in their pocket from your decision. Right now, with how much we have drained talent over the past 5-10 years, we are in no position to turn up any possible way to build good faith with whoever we get first. Especially if we go an interstate route with who we pick.

That pressure and fishbowl nature is going to be exactly the same regardless of if we use pick one, or pick two for that player. You're damn naive to think otherwise. If you are worried about that, then fold the club and it is nothing more than a losers attitude to be concerned by it.

Interesting comments, I actually thought brouch was pretty good, as was mrouch and for once they actually played really well together.

McAdam was immense in the first half, not a high number of stats, but his pressure and intent really set the tone and made the hawthorn defenders nervous as soon as the ball went there.

Talia is an unheralded leader and player.

Matt being back in form really makes a difference. His last few weeks has been back to somewhere near his best.

Not sure if he's had a talking to, or has finally adapted to our current lead ruckman, but whatever it is, we're clearly a better side for it.
Don't get sucked in by a late season burst of 'form'. His 'form' is already well established in my book, and it's not good enough.
He takes far too long to move the ball along, particularly from a mark/free kick where he'll balk 2-3 times before he's forced to just bang it long to a contest, at best a 50/50 contest and rarely to our advantage.
When on the run, if he's not on his left he has to double back usually into traffic and ends up under pressure and turning the ball over.
He's the master of the turn-over, to the point where I swear he's a double agent for the opposing team.

Only Centre circle midfielder missing tonight for the Hawks was Jaeger O'Meara. If they were in development mode why wasn't their best young midfield prospect Finn Maginnes out there? Unless you consider Liam Shiels a top notch mid still when most would think he's a light of other days, averaged 0.7 Centre Clearances across his 13 games this year, or perhaps you didn't realise how poorly their list management re drafting young talent has been preferring to go down the mature age recruits line?
