We were outplayed there so we can be happy to go in with a lead. We're allowing the Hawks to slow it down and keep possession too easily, then when we get it in the back half we just keep hacking it into their zone. We'll need to play better than that if we're gonna win.

Jesus Christ Hawthorn are a boring team to watch, though.

This is inverse Dees and it bodes really well. Being carved up by a team who is wasting their chances but we are kicking straight. We’re a strong second half team, gotta take it to them and keep giving it (legally) to Mitchell

Gunston is killing us. Some of our field kicking has been horrendous. Petracca still sky balling. We are lucky Hawthorn haven't kicked well. Snaps instead of drop punts ect. Happy with our defense we've been rock solid. Need to put them away this quarter. Go dees.

That 2nd quarter was Melbourne from the first half of the season except with better and a little luckier defending.

Their structure absolutely strangled us, they deserved to be 3 goals in front of us.

Our defenders got caught in the play on an go fast from defence all the time so we keep kicking long down the line which makes their defensive structure predictable.

We need to slow it down and switch the play. Not only that but the forwards need to work harder to present an uncontested target on the opposite wing. If people expect Hogan to be our 3rd tall that's the role he would play, bust a gut to get across for the switch.

schmuttt this is what I ment by saying we haven't fixed our style of play yet. Petracca is the shining example of a team that wants to go forward all the time.

That was played on the hawks terms that quarter we were lucky to be infront.
We haven't scored from a forward 50 stoppage yet and the hawks are controlling the footy out of the back half.

The kicks have been perfect that have been cut of mostly, except for a hawks defender there. They have defended space well. We need to find that best option, or we need to hold the ball a slight bit longer and find the 45 degree kick.

Is anyone else watching at home and feel we are getting reamed?? Juat let the boys play, it's as if the umpires have been told to slow the play down, or pay free kicks to slow it down. Its bizarre. That said, feel like the better team is 13 points down at the moment. But we have defended superbly, in most cases.

They are also playing two behind the ball, meaning if we do get into a contested ball, they have numbers at the ball cariier to congest it up, but also a free option out back. I do like how they are trying to lower the eyes for the kick into 50, its just not coming off yet, but as the game continues and players tire, it will start to find a target.

2 weeks in a row we have had a reversal up the ground that either saved us a score of got us one. 15-11 FKs. Fair dinkum do you go to the footy to watch the game or the umpires?

Didn’t we miss that one?

Agree. Hawks definitely looking good. Key points;

1. Gawn not involved enough - needs to be pushing deeper into hawks 50 to cut off entry
2. Ball movement sharp from Hawthorn inside 50.
3. Hawks looking their most dangerous when slowing down - we have to keep this intensity up and tire them
4. Our inside fifties aren’t efficient. We are getting caught still rather than overlapping as is our strength
