This thread ought to be renamed, "The Definitive List of the Most Outlandish Reasons To Dislike Geelong".

Geelong has achieved success without COLA, without playing ugly football, without a "Whatever It Takes" mantra, and without GAJ. Some have claimed we had an unfair advantage with the father-son rule (a rule open to all teams), and an arm-chair ride with the umpires (statistically we are in the middle of the pack). Now we have the latest conspiracy, the AFL has manipulated the Veterans list rules to favor Geelong. What next?

Lee Spurr in the 2nd - just flat out ducked

Suban again in the 2nd - complete duck into the tackle

Crozier in the last - watch the slow mo and see him duck and then throw the head back theatrically

Ridiculous that any of these were paid free kicks. Obviously it goes both ways and Geelong got their fair share, but don't act like it's just Geelong players that do it. Freo scragged all game, you're goin got get frees paid against you when you push the boundaries.

I will tell you this name a Geelong game in the last 5 years where they have been hard done by from umpires? Always seem to get the rub of the green.

There's been plenty - they just tend to win anyway.

I'm not anti-Geelong, think they're a very good side and very entertaining to watch in general. What struck me and had me barracking for Freo tonight:

1. Geelong players often tried to induced or make the umpires think there had been high contact and got a very good ride from the umpires tonight;
2. Steve Johnson is a very talented player but he gets involved in a fair few dirty acts, it goes way beyond 'self-defence', he initiates it too often for that.

Only other thing I can think of that I didn't like was last year after the finals loss to the Hawks, Selwood was talking about them having 'pinched it'. Poor form.

This is the answer for me.
Stokes, Bartel, Christensen and Selwood are infuriating especially when the umpires are sucked in by it.

Well there have been plenty of games this year, and previous years for that matter, where I've thought we got a rough deal from the umps.

I still don't mind Geelong either. To be honest, I kind of like them.

The way Christensen, Selwood and Stokes play for free kicks is sickening though. Mackie, Bartel and Johnson were doing it on Saturday night too.

The umpiring genuinely changed the result of the game. Was still an entertaining game though, and Freo had a couple of chances to win it in the last couple of minutes. Hopefully we can bring the same effort against the Hawks, and we have all of our key players available.

The veterans list was changed in 2012 from a system which favoured the retention of a greater number of veterans. It was a leg up to the cats.

You would have to be some sort of nuffie to run around whining about the advantages other teams receive from AFL manipulation of the system without acknowledging when the system is also manipulated in your own favor.

So let me get this right - in 2012 the AFL decision makers got together and said, "Hmm. Geelong has an aging list. How can we manipulate the rules to give them an unfair advantage......?" You have got to be joking. We give you Chappy and you're still whinging....

Don't pretend Geelong were the only ones that got dodgy frees. Sandilands in the goal square for the worst umpiring decision of the year, Subans constant diving frees, the free against Selwood in the first when he was tackled 30 metres off the play and Freo somehow ended up with a shot on goal and numerous others.

Yep but only by people with agendas/grudges/eyesight issues/!
For example- he doesn't duck-he drops his knees and shrugs and plays on/the free kick is just a bonus to him-he wants to escape the tackle. I never see him put his head down and ram it into anyone like Puopolo and co do( and Sloane) with no other intention than to get a free-that is much worse, much more dangerous. But rarely gets a mention.
