The tone of Geelong’s equivalent thread on their board is so different to our thread. A good day to be a Lions supporter.

They've won both finals well so the confidence on their forum is a given.

Tagging Rayner was left field and we were not ready for that one. Same with McCluggage, he'll have a point to prove against this mob. With Charlie buzzing and not bothered about goals, I feel a lot more confident taking them on.

We know what they'll throw at us and have time to prepare - will be a good game.

After a couple of nights to sleep on it and trying to take all of the emotion out of it I'm getting a little more realistic.

For Lachie to go from out for the season with a calf strain( tear ?) to playing within a week is just a bit much to swallow. On top of the quad that he really wasn't over when he last played 10 days ago. Huge risk imo , if he plays trusting they know a lot more than what we've been presented with.

I know Oscar has to probably play because of the romance and emotion of it all but is he the right fit against this Geelong lineup ? Or can we go smaller ?

A couple of things I've been pondering.

With Gallop showing signs I'll absolutely put Oscar on the goal square. He'll bring it to ground as a minimum and let our smalls do the work. Oscar will also be a good change up to Fort, he can literally take possession and handball it forcefully out of congestion giving us better chances outside. Oscar is a wild card for us and can test Geelong a fair bit.

Neale - we have to wait n see.

Thanks BB, I don't watch much of the Cats, I think he did tag Jai Newcombe in the Prelim though or were my eyes playing up again?

Despite the QF result I still think if we bring our best against their best we win.

It also seems to be forgotten that we beat them convincingly at the Cattery not all that long ago.
Missing from our team that day:
Answerth, Berry, Hipwood, Day, McLachlan, Neale (I’m assuming neither of those boys will get up)
Replaced by:
Gallop, Gardiner, Oscar, Reville, Marshall and someone.
My bet is we’ll go for finals/Grandfinal experience. Either McKenna or Robertson

Even though the club and Lachie seem confident I'm with you martin, too much risk, Lachie has hardly played the last 2 months, the Cats would exploit him somehow IMO. Berry also not worth the risk, same shoulder popped twice in a matter of weeks, the Cats will be bumping into it at every opportunity to test it out.

Pretty straight forward, trust in Bruce Reville doing the job for Berry and bring in one of McKenna/Tunstill as the sub.

Nigel Lappin was different, as they say you don't run on your ribs, calves and quads are pretty essential.

That was another big thing from the qualifying final. Not only did they stifle our ball movement and take away some key contributors, but we also didn't help ourselves with how poor our pressure was, especially defensively in the F50. The smalls need to be switched on and be willing to work just as hard defensively, as they are offensively. If we allow them to transition out of there so easily again, they have to much run & class on the outside for us to defend that.

Let's ask the high priest of Lesterism what should be done.

@3KZ give us your wisdom.

I am currently cogitating with the Footy Gods. Wisdom to follow.

Going to tough for sure but every "must win" game this year, we have delivered. Geelong have a good balance of defence and offence, which we will need to disrupt. Bottom line is we can't let their mids get of the chain like last game and our forwards need to deliver like against the Pies and Suns.

I think what we did better on the weekend then in the Suns game was not to kick it to Oscar. Against the Suns we went to him way too often in a 2 on 2 and then once the ball got to ground it was a 2 on 1 and they ran it out.

Unless it’s a slow play and there’s a big pack, Oscar needs to try and drag his opponent away from the contest

Or maybe Oscar can actually take a bloody mark

At centre clearances I think we will need more clearances from Oscar and Fort than last time. Blicavs plays as an extra mid and we saw them dominate the centre clearances against the Hawks and beat us comfortably. Oscar and Fort just need to clear the congestion to even numbers either through the spike or taking it out of the ruck and getting it forward

If Berry plays would he be better suited to tagging with that shoulder?

EDIT - his shoulder would get more attention. Could be a sub option?

What's with ads that pop up instead of the keyboard when typing on a mobile. Most annoying ad tactic yet.

If he plays he probably won’t have much feeling in that arm. So whatever position is best suited to playing with 1 arm

While 3KZ is Football cogitates, the cards suggest this is the team to select.

FB: Lester, Gardiner, Starcevich
HB: Wilmot, Andrews, Fletcher
C: Reville, McCluggage, Marshall
HF: Cameron, Gallop, Bailey
FF: Rayner, Morris, Ah Chee
Foll: Fort, W.Ashcroft, Dunkley
Int: McInerney, Lohmann, L. Ashcroft, Zorko

Sub: Tunstill

This team will win.

If Lachie Neale is passed as fit and Fagan and the Match Committee believe there is no risk in playing him, based on training and the advice from medical staff, this is the side that the cards suggest.

A sage and righteous post. I have been communing with the Footy Gods and they decree that either of those teams would be blessed.

The Footy Gods decree that people should gamble responsibly, but if you put all the cash you can muster on Brisbane to win at $2.67, the chances are you’re not about to lose.

Neale couldn’t walk last year leading up to the GF. The only difference is no one knew this until after the game. If he told people 5 days out from the GF he can’t walk, people would say don’t play, and then he goes on to almost win the Norm Smith.
I think he will play, and if he gets injured so be it, that’s what the sub is for.

I feel that our undoing will be loyalty to guys like Lachie and Oscar.

I love Oscar and what he's done for our team and his infectious nature, but his fitness and ability is already concerning me. I guess what is the alternative, Sam Day, or go smaller? I'd go smaller and play McKenna, but I don't see the club having the guts to make such a call given Oscar's narrative, which isn't undeserved. Its a tough one.

As for Lachie, look I get why he wants to play, but to me he's putting himself ahead of the team for the reasons you mentioned and how little he has played in the past 6 weeks, all because he understandably doesn't want to miss out.

Not many are corageous like the Simon Prestiagicomo's of the world and rule themselves out when the coach admitted he would have played him but for the player putting the club ahead of himself.

That’s it in a nutshell. As sad as it is, Berry is no chance. Oscar wrote the script for him last year and Berry should follow it. He should be working with the younger player and less experienced players, especially Marshall and Reville, helping them to prepare and being a positive force in the group.

We need to get Dr Richard Kimble on the job.

This!
Both Lachie and Jarrod know what they have to do.
Model themselves on Oscar and be an inspiration to the team.
I suspect all the Lachie talk is just a smokescreen.
