Just musing on Dangerfield. He was a man possessed on Friday night. He was very fresh. Can he do that again?

He had 31 possessions and kicked 3 goals. That is so far above his output this year.

He has not had another 30 possession game this year. He has had 20+ only twice, the last time he did was round 9 against Collingwood (29).

He had kicked 3+ goals 3 times this year before Friday, rounds 5,6,7 he kicked 3,4,3.

Maybe he can do it again. But that was a game way above what he has been this year, and he seemed to be putting every sinew of his body in to winning. Would not surprise me if his 35yo body is a bit sore and he can't scale those heights again.

🙏 🙏 🙏 he's too amped up to prove his legacy and misses shots like he did in his 350th.

Danger played mostly forward this season which is why his possession numbers are down.
I hope you’re right on being sore! He has had games where he didn’t fire a shot (his 350th comes to mind). Hopefully this is one of them…

Have we become more willing to shift magnets?

Last year Hogan was killing us in the semi and we kept Payne on him the whole time.

QF this year the move on Cameron was made early

Prelim the move on King even earlier
It could also be that without Payne we don’t have the big monster backman. Harris has the height (and unbelievable talent) but they’re all relatively interchangeable. A good position to be in.

Yeah the thing is though he hasn't been kicking many goals. TBF i did not do a deep dive on assists or score involvements, but he had a few of them on the weekend too.

Clearly he is a big threat to plan for, but i guess my point is the game on the weekend was just completely out of the box compared to this year.

Yeah that's a good point. It seems the coaches figured Harris was too valuable as interceptor and Payne had the size to counter the the oppo's biggest threat

I just prefer the willingness to switch - i think it can become mental for a defender when they are struggling, it goes from an unlucky bounce goal, to a free kick against goal because they panic.

And yes before others wade in i know Payne was good very late against Hogan! But he was torched for most of the game.

I believe size is a crucial factor against Dangerfield. I'd say Hawks lack that in midfield other than newcombe whose a ball winner himself and Sicily is a bad matchup in forward for him.

Fortunately we have Dunkley in midfield and Starcevich in defense to keep the leash on him. We have good matchups to counter his bull at gates approach in my view.

Via Mitch Cleary:

An 80-minute session for Brisbane at Princes Park. No sign of Jarrod Berry. Lachie Neale completed the entire session and hit top speed. Josh Dunkley (ankle) away from main group at stages but is in no doubt. Lighter sessions for Rayner/Fletcher

No Berry at all? Fagan said he would give him Thursday's session. That would have to rule a line through him?

Gee i really hope Dunks is not hindered. Arguably our most important player.

Absolutely! I think Dunks would be a bigger loss than Lachie. 😳

Dunks is fine, just managing the load on his ankle before the game.

You would assume Bez is out which is a shame for him.

Anyone else in Q53?

Had basically the same view when I went to the Gabba this year for the Port Adelaide game. I’m chalking that up as a personal good omen.

Strange they didn't try Nash who is a beast at 196

Danger also kicked straight for goal and that is not normally the case. Misses more than he kicks normally.

Much prefer this to Blicavs in the ruck:

Agree. And it means we are a better chance to win it out of the middle

But i think the cats are taking this option to make sure they can still intercept in the backline. Henry to Morris. SDK to Gallop. Blicavs to play on Oscar and just zone off him at will - they are not exactly like for like in agility!

Love this. We will be cutting them up in the forward line playing the angles and scoring from stoppage. Stanley is significantly less mobile than Stewart and returning from a hamstring. Expecting Lohmann, Cameron, Rayner, Morris and Bailey to really get off the chain.
