They have it wrong , our picked is to be used after our R1 pick.
Unless of course they are referring to just 2012 .If we use it in 2012 it would have to be a "end of R1" pick but by 2013 it will be immediately after our R1 picks. ie if we finished 12th because we planed to play a truck load of kids we would have a R1 pick P7 and would then have P8 as a comp pick

Knew we wouldn't use it. But Brisban activated theirs. Very interesting times ahead.

Probably a good call, which suggests to me the club doesnt think it will fall down the ladder this year.

I agree and going on what Turbo's saying I'm for holding out for 2013, that 12th finish could probably be around the mark that year, hope to be pushing for another flag 2016.Thats my take anyway.

I think Brisbane did because they realised several other clubs would use their end of round one picks in 2012, meaning they'd have gotten bumped a few spots down the order if they used it then.

For us, because our pick is inside the first round, makes no sense to use it now, particularly with the draft compromised.

We should use it 2012 or 2013 depending on which year we think we'll drop and it may be a pick 7 or 8.

2013 Geelong will tank, then build towards another dynasty.

Geelong doesn't tank.

We won't tank, but we will finish about 13th in one of those years where all the guys have retired and it's a team of kids, and that's the time to use it because it'd give us picks 6 and 7.

It's going to be a very strange feeling the year we do activate it.

For example, If we are 6-8 at round 14, with the active pick, would you rather see us come home strong and finish 8th at 13-11, or play inexperianced kids and finish 15th at 7-17? that's picks 10 and 11, or picks 3 and 4.

To be honest, as much fun a high draft picks are, I take pride in the fact we haven't been bottom 4 in my lifetime, I'd hate to see us tank for picks.

Free agency will throw cat amongst the pigeons, with salary cap space coming available over next 3 years and a good core 6-7 young players coming through rebuilding could be short and sweet.

The reality is because we have very few mid range age players (ie Selwood and Taylor's age), in whatever year most guys have required and we are quite young, we will fall away a lot late in the year as young bodies fatigue, so your second option will happen without us specifically working to make it happen.
