Review Geelong tries its best to lose and finds a way to stagger to a 4 point win over Demons

Given that’s a good proportion of the team does that paint the picture of gung-ho footy for 100 minutes?

Rightfully, I think we need the sting to go out of the game first before going quick
Doesn't work. It actually builds more pressure on us at the start of high pressure games. We try but the pressure is so great the safe kicks from the poor kickers (Even the good ones) come unstuck. Then we're really f**ked.
Best way to build pressure is on the scoreboard anyway.
Even today in as a non pressure environment as AFL football can get it didn't really work. Just couldn't build enough scoreboard pressure to keep even a team like Melbourne out of it. Even at the end they didn't have to go completely stupid to win it creating turnovers everywhere. We were actually turning it over on our terms.
Would be far better off kicking to a contest.
That's the way we need to play. Not exciting but more effective than this.
Need Sav in the ruck providing a target out of defence with 2 of Danger, Selwood, Ablett and Parfitt at his feet.
Hawkins or Krueger or Jenkins or whoever providing the next contest with 2 of those players at their feet.
1 of those 3 forwards deep with a small forward close by.
If we want to go gung ho we need Miers playing off half back at those times.
He is really the only one with the vision who can setup a real attacking play from there now.

Had to laugh at scott in the presser saying it’s not up to the coaches to play exciting football. Wtf.

How is it not the coaches fault when you demand your team play an incredibly slow, all out defensive game plan. What a farkin idiotic thing to say.
Did he mention how many goals we kicked when we moved the ball slow compared to when we took the game on? I'll bet he didn't:think:

On Steven, there’s no downside in him staying in the side, as rusty as he looks. You know he will get better with game time and his best is worth waiting for.
Does playing a fat fumbling 30 year old send the right message to the young brigade?

Possibly the worst game of footy ever.
There we’re 50 goals kicked in the 1972 grand final
I’m not saying that we should get back to that but today was awful
I took Cats by 40+. As in what they would win by not what they would score!
Imagine saying “7 goals wins this“ at the start of the day, in perfect conditions

To be fair it really isn't up to him to play exciting footy.
It's to get as many H&A wins for the now by any means necessary. That's his agenda and obviously the clubs who keep signing him on.

RSame applies here. We want to breed the next gen of Cats premiership players and how will they achieve that if we gift them games and not be made to earn it. Of the guys under 25 in our side not many didn't earn their spot, and keep it on merit.

We need to adhere to those same standards and make these young players PUSH the old guys out.

The problem is this coach has set ideas and will continue playing some players
despite numerous clangers, till they eventually become good ordinary players at best.
Meanwhile other players will get one game then get dropped. never to be seen again.
Also when a coach has faith in certain players they never get dropped regardless.

We're a rabble, simple as that.

Watching us is like what Richmond used to be like when they tried the precision kicking style but they were too shit to actually execute it.

I think I speak for all of us when I say this, if this style would stack up in finals and won us games then we'd accept it.

But no, we just lost to Carlton AT HOME and barely scraped by a pitiful Melbourne. Gee we're lucky they're pathetic, otherwise that could've gotten a lot uglier. Like Clayton Oliver face levels of ugly.

Last year, we played like a million bucks in the first half of the season. Then Got worked out, injured, tired and fell apart. All I know is that at this stage, all that matters is getting Wins.
The season is so long that we may as well have a boring game plan for other teams to analyse for the first half of the year and then pull out something different to finish the year off strongly.
This!
The Richmond 2019 strategy?
Risky, especially in a shortened/interrupted season.
Gives us (supporters) hope though ....otherwise we are just sh*t:huh:

We should persist with thought in the ruck.

How good is Hawkins when he leads, give the man the space for goodness sake and get it in too him quick.

Atkins average
He got absolutely massacred in the last quarter, Gawn almost won that game himself.

It’s fairly obvious we ain’t winning the flag this year.
Our best isn’t in the same postcode as GWS and Pies
We need to see what Krueger, Chook, Clark, Simpson, Kennerley etc have got and expose them to AFL
Otherwise other teams will snap them up
Our future isn’t with Henderson, Steven, Harry, Bews, Tuohy, Dollhouse, even Gaz

I've said several times in the past few years that the top goal of the club admin was to stay competitive enough to keep in the 8 until the stadium is finished.
A corollary to this is the recruiting of 'name' vets. This helps sell memberships more than unknown and untested rookies.
We saw how close to disaster the club could be when the season was threatened by covid.
How much the game plan is predicated by this focus in not certain, but CS may be directed to make the 8 at all costs, with the opportunity cost of not being a finals type team and restricting real development of the future group.
IMHO

As long as the message is: work hard enough so that you get to be that fat 30 year old one day! :D

Danger is still 20% off his Golden patch. He has definitely lost a yard of pace. I saw movement at the station when he just bullied his way past Hibbert to set up Hawkins but all it did was remind me how much it’s been lacking since the middle of last year.

When you aren’t as explosive your kicking needs to improve or compensate but it isn’t there. Still our best player but he’s not the best player in the comp anymore.

I've thought this too.

Scoreboard pressure relieves on field pressure.
Attacking under pressure is how you learn to overcome that pressure.
Kicking for goal under pressure is how you learn to kick under pressure.
Performing under pressure is how you win a Grand Final.
