I get the impression there's perhaps a special place in the hearts of senior management for the blokes who were there in the dark days of 2008-2010.

You do get the impression that these guys are favoured somewhat by getting more lenient treatment by the match committee when it comes to under performance.

They probably feel they owe it to them for turning around the clubs culture.

I can see how that would make some of the kids feel uneasy though, if indeed it is the case

Can imagine Simpson at his exclusive party.

Because when a senior manager of a company has a birthday party he invites all his staff

Management shouldn't socialise with worker bee's period. Clouds their judgement, compromises their ability to do their job properly.

They are favoured? Dude, who the hell is left from then? Most have been let go.

Problem is there isn't enough depth to replace these guys. We have tried. Who hadn't we dropped? Masten, Mackenzie, Schofield, butler have all been dropped.

Your arguement simply doesn't stack up.

It's a simple equation - no finals, no job.

I'd prefer it to be no top 4, no job considering how much this team has topped up in recent seasons - the board will no doubt accept another year of underachievement however.

If there is another instance of key-defenders being selected as forwards, it will be strike three from me.

Mackenzie dropped because he's clearly light years behind where he was pre-ACL and you can't hide a full back elsewhere in the team when you have two far superior KPD replacements.

Schofield and Butler - yeah fair enough but they were hardly beacons for us during the dark ages. As with Mackenzie, there's only limited room for KPD and unfortunately for Schofield, McGovern came along.

Over to Masten - he was dropped for the first time since 2011 despite having a consistently negligible impact on games. He's not a terrible player but we will never miss him not being in the side and hes proven that he will not will us over the line

In his 171 games has he ever been BOG?

For a senior outside midfielder you should be expected to have an extra gear - if not, then perhaps it's time try a kid for a few games.

Le Cras in particular is one I was referring to - he hasn't been omitted since about 2008 despite some extended lulls in form since his ACL.

It's not just his propensity to go missing in tough matches but his selfishness as a senior leader (eg. 50 metre grubber shots on goal) which should be excuse enough to send a message and give a kid a chance.

Priddis also has never been omitted since about 2007. That's been discussed ad nauseum. Ditto Hurn, who understandably now is the captain and won't be dropped as easily, but is another who stood by the club in the dark ages and who hasn't been dropped.

Given WC are consistently the team who debuts the least number of players each year, and have an ageing list, I think my argument (even though it was really just a suspicion) stacks up fine.

It's clear the club is struggling to squeeze enough motivation out of this list before the premiership window shuts, so why aren't they trying to shake things up a bit? You can't keep playing the same guys and having the same failures and expecting it to just click.

It's either our players are just too damn good to drop, or our drafting/development is consitently awful, or there's another reason why we are hesitant to drop senior players.

Masten?

I think there was one game v Brisbane away where he got 3 Brownlow votes

Bought him several seasons without scrutiny

:D

EDIT: crickey Moses , he has had 3 games with 3 brownlow votes!

Lecras doing the 50 metre dribble attempt wasn't an act of selfishness, just a stupid decision and bad football. He was entitled to have a shot as he was put into best position, he just ****ed it up royally by being a showoff. That's different to being selfish. Nonetheless though yes he should be made an example of for doing stupid things.

I think people get caught up in their reasons for disliking players and use buzzwords when they don't really apply.

I heard simpson actually had an open invitation to the playing group to attend his party but all the young kids scoffed and said no way old man we have better things to do. Which to be fair you absolutely would. Simpson felt burnt by the kids as he had so many lolly bags left over and hasnt been giving them a look in since due to this

I call bullshit, you'd actually be stoked that you had lollies left over, who doesn't like having more lollies that you expected??

That is very surprising.

Well he makes both bad decisions and selfish decisions in the forwardline somewhat regularly these days.

The dribble kick was an example of the former but there have been plenty of examples of him burning others in matches this year

How many times has he scooped the coaches votes I wonder

It's more about how many times he's been the difference between a win and a loss, particularly in big games.

He's a small cog like a back pocket is a small cog, but for a mid who isn't a tagger and who has played 170 games you expect a bit more impact.

Anyway it's not the Masto thread

Didn't they both have their weddings on the same day or something?

No idea.

Not attacking you, but as a bloke would that really be a big deal? Unless they were close to team-mates and it forced them to choose, perhaps that could be an issue.

Should've merged them and saved some cash.
