Anyone know who replaced Daniel Pratt? It looks like it’s Webster but I don’t know if we actually added any new coaches?

Pratt out, Shuey in with a reshuffle of roles

Schofield took over midfield completely and is effectively 2IC. Shuey moved into stoppages which pushed Knights out to take over forwards, leaving Webster to move to backline coach replacing Pratt

Makes sense. I completely blanked on Shuey after he hadn’t been added to the coaching list (roles haven’t been updated either).

Anyone able to open this and give us the gist of the article.

Would be happy if we landed Matthew Clarke for our list managers role.

Been a while since the interview process, so any updates would be appreciated.

Webster as backline coach. I won't be holding my breath any time soon for a semblance of order to occur down there then :/

He's gotta be on some sort of soft cap concession, no idea how he stays on.

The article is more of a summary of what’s happening league wide re recruiting/list management staff but the part relevant to us treats Clarke to WCE as basically a fait accompli. Seems that it’s considered a given he’s on the move

Other bit of interest is the analyst at Sydney we were linked with early, Chris Keane, has been promoted at Sydney and is being groomed to replace Beatson as list manager. Would explain why he ruled himself out of our position

Full article below

Sydney has promoted recruiting analyst Chris Keane to help steer the club’s list management under a new-look collaborative approach that will see the rising star work alongside veteran Kinnear Beatson and Swans football boss Leon Cameron.
Keane has an RMIT degree in statistics and boasts a rare blend of recruiting analytics nous with a good football brain. The data expert is regarded as a highly intelligent operator and excellent negotiator for his ability to read what rival clubs are attempting to extract from deals.

Keane was the mastermind who exploited an AFL loophole that was quickly closed in 2018 when the league introduced live bidding for the first time.

The Swans effectively parked a second-round pick with the Eagles before it was returned after a bid came for academy star Nick Blakey to ensure the valuable selection was not used to match that bid.

Keane is being groomed to eventually take over as full-time list manager, but the club has settled on a collaborative approach between Keane, Beatson and Cameron this year without having a standout list boss.

Beatson has been the Swans’ long-time list manager, but will move into more of a recruiting role in 2024 after recognising Keane’s potential.

The Swans have also advertised for a new recruiting and analyst role and hope to make an appointment next month.

That position will replace Simon Dalrymple, who crossed to St Kilda after the Saints made former recruiting boss Chris Toce redundant after last year’s draft.

The recruiting world is set for a shake-up with West Coast on the brink of signing Richmond’s recruiting manager Matthew Clarke as its new list boss.

That would see vacancies at the Swans, Tigers and Fremantle.

West Coast advertised its list manager job on Seek last month. The salary was not published publicly, but was bracketed at $200,000-$300,000.

Clarke’s journey to the top job at the Eagles will cap a remarkable rise almost three decades on from starting as a part-time recruiting officer at Melbourne in 1997.

Clarke helped cover South Australian talent for the Demons and helped them recruit Jared Rivers as a smoky in 2002.

Rivers went on to win the 2004 Rising Star as an intercepting weapon and played 194 AFL games.

Clarke not only helped build the Tigers’ premiership dynasty, but he will depart Punt Rd with new coach Adem Yze taking charge of a promising list.

The nucleus of the Tigers’ next wave has been established through the likes of Josh Gibcus, Tyler Sonsie, Sam Banks, Kane McAuliffe and Thomson Dow.

Last year’s clever draft strategy also ensured the Tigers already boast nine selections in 2024 that they should be able to convert into multiple first-round picks.

“You’ve got the currency with these future picks to go, ‘OK, maybe we do bundle up two or three picks to give to Carlton to get their first pick’, and then you’ve got two first-rounders,” Clarke told the Herald Sun after the draft.

“Because we haven’t picked at the top for a while, maybe you want to add some high-end talent. (Or) you can go to a club and go, ‘OK, hey, we want your big boy – here’s two first-rounders’.”

Toce, Collingwood’s Adam Shepard and Port Adelaide’s Anthony Parkin are names who could appeal to the Tigers when they search for Clarke’s successor.

Toce could also be considered at the Dockers, who lost recruiter Andrew Farrell when he decided to instead run his own business supplying information on future prospects to player agents and some AFL clubs.

The Saints have enjoyed fruitful drafts recently with top picks Mattaes Phillipou (No.10 in 2022) and Darcy Wilson (No.18 in 2023) making instant impressions.

It’s understood other key figures including coach Ross Lyon and head of talent Graeme Allan pushed heavily for both of those players.

List manager Stephen Silvagni also liked elite runner Wilson last year. But Toce was a huge fan of Hugo Garcia, who was taken at No.50 last year and also dazzled in last week’s big win against Essendon.

Wilson and Garcia are both chances to make their AFL debuts in round 1 against Geelong, with Wilson considered extremely likely to get the nod.

Done deal - Matthew Clarke is the new list manager at West Coast

Wish him all the best in his new role. He has a big job in front of him

“Clarke, who will remain based in Victoria at West Coast's Docklands office, said he was looking forward to playing his role in the club’s rise up the ladder.”

I’d prefer he was WA based but we had the same arrangement with ROB so it’s not new. May also have played a factor in securing him as he doesn’t have to relocate

I think this is likely strategic. A lot of the managers are in Victoria and so are most of the clubs, so that covers off most of the people he talks to.

Also nice to have one of our most senior people based in Melbourne.

Good appointment for me.

Proof of his recruiting is he staffed the Tigers for 3 flags!

So we have Innis, Pyke, Daisy and Clarke coming into the club. 4 quality appointments.

Simpson - you are on notice. Give some positive signs for the future or Don will be saying "good-bye"

For a club that usually keeps things close to their chest, this was locked in for ages.

Bit harder to keep quiet when you’re dealing with people in the Victorian football community. Richmond would naturally have been aware we were talking to him and then making their own steps towards sounding out replacements

You guys just did it to stop us grabbing young WA kids for nix.

Recruiting highly rated key staff from Collingwood, Bulldogs, Sydney and Richmond.
Knights and Schofield in previous years were two highly rated assistants we pinched as well.

Good to see our club throwing its weight around and getting the back office sorted.

Agree, good that we are casting a wider vision and scouring the industry for best available.
We have had a insular mindset for awhile where we seemed to fill any new vacancies from within.
You need diversity of vision, work practices, strategy, experience, and attitudes to blend together to be at the front of innovation.

One of the Clubs greatest strengths has also been one of its greatest weaknesses, as our continuity and stability has also blocked new ideas, outside perspective, trending and innovation.

It’s imperative that we not only stay abreast with the latest trends and innovations, but also be an organisation that pushes and explores such opportunities and innovation.

If you don’t improve as a football club from one season to the next, you are falling behind.
