If they're trying to create cap room, they could trade Motlop for a first-rounder from somewhere, and then use their second rounder to try to pick up a player to fill a need who will come cheaper than Deledio. In fact, a second-rounder is the absolute most I would expect a club to trade for Deledio.
Yep, if he wants out top 10 pick minimum or preferably two under 25. On the proviso we can snare Daniel Wells for nothing.

Yeah but if motlop nominates a club that offers crap we can tell him we will only look at a trade this year to a club that offers better or he can choose who he wants as a free agent next year. Remember at worst we will get first round compo for him next year, richmond wont for deledio.

They are not in any drivers seat no mattet what their supporters say.

As I said I not convinced we would get any comp due to the fact we would look at available FA's.

GWS need draft points for all there academy kids.
Think it would be a smart move to get as high up the draft order with all the late picks we have
Even if it's a second rounder for a third and fourth round, that's a massive win IMO

Thats last year , not this year. System has changed ...and GWS will have enough picks once they lose Marchbank and Steel

Im not sure thats even current.. Rohan has resigned for eg. LeCras maybe... but id not discount the system changing by this time next year. The AFL will give on something to get a deal done.

It isn't but players are only going to be taken off it.

unless they change to 6 and 8 to give something to the AFLPA

That's way too speculative at this stage. The club wouldn't move on Moltop on the basis that free agency might change and that we might bid on someone and the other club won't threaten to match it so we lose out on a compensation pick.

Its ALL speculative.

Too much injury concerns for mine, he has been breaking down with hamstring issues as soon as he gets his knees right.
While I don't necessarily disagree, if we rookied him and given the clubs experience in getting Menzel right - he'd be just a risky as any other random rookie with an much higher ceiling probably.

Perhaps, I don't think we got screwed for Bundy, I mean he definitely wasn't worth a top 10 pick, so he was maybe worth a few picks better, pretty marginal really. Plus, was OOC and gave us one club to deal with, Brisbane didn't have much else to offer and there were obviously off-field issues that we still don't really know the extent of - he had to go and we had very little leverage. I think the club would've had a fair idea of his injury issues also, he's had the back issues persistently while at Geelong, those issue aren't likely just going away, especially when they show signs at that young of an age.

Agree Stanley wasn't worth p21 at the time but he filled a position we desperately needed, appeared to have solid upside and was probably the best available for us - I think it was a pretty astute trade, they knew it was probably overs at the time looking at it as an isolated trade but he was still contracted but we got what we needed and part of the puzzle was getting a good ruckman on the list, that had to happen and the upside looked very favourable, which they made a good assessment of IMO.

Would you have preferred we took that p21 to the draft and didn't have him on the list or that we went after a need that was critical to us and paid a bit extra to fill it with a talented big man that was still contracted?

I agree with what your saying, another was of thinking about it is comparing the hypothetical trade where Stanley was a Brisbane player and we traded Bundy for Stanley. Maybe Wells and Co had sused out StK and knew 21 was enough to get Stanley, and like you said he was a real need/want. If we didn't have anything else in that range to trade, what would it had mattered if we got pick say 18 for Bundy, we still probably would have traded this for Stanley. So the only benificery there is StK.

Know you could argue that Bundy was worth more than Stanley and the time and we might have been able to get some change, but talls are always worth more and Bundy didn't put the trade on our terms really so, I feel it was a good result really.

Would happily drop a rookie or a last pick on Morabito. If any club can get him right...

I agree but only on the rookie option.
Obviously he would have to pass a medical first, and chances are he probably wouldn't, but he is the perfect fit for a rookie spot.
We know he has the talent but has major injury issues and a rookie spot doesn't really cost a lot in the risk vs reward stakes compared to a spot on the main list.
Most rookie picks are speculative picks anyway and not many are successful based mainly on the players taken don't end up having that top end talent needed to survive whereas this guy has the talent but maybe not the body.
Wouldn't be the worst option but only after the club did its homework first.

Totally agree, also add that Bundy wasn't contracted and Stanley was which narrows the gap even further. St Kilda would have seen no benefit of losing Stanley for p30+ when at the time they were wondering where their Riewoldt replacement was going to come from.

I'd expect Richmond to be asking for a mid to late first rounder for Lids. He'd be looking for $500k a season ther or thereabouts.

Can we afford either?? And if so, would Jaega be a better option for similar costs?

Far too much risk with his injury history in my opinion. I think with Menzel, Cowan, McCarthy etc we've got enough to keep our club doctors and physios busy!

I'd prefer to target Stewart from GWS if we are going to look at anyone. Fits a need and with Clark and Vardy likely departures we will need to reload with some tall talent.

Yeah I'd be looking at a few of the GWS boys. Stewart, Steele, Hoskin-Elliot and Barrett. They need to cut their list so happy to investigate.

And besides, it's all guess work about what a player's health is gonna be going forward.

Well you got there eventually.

To quote my previous post:
"His great 2015 season has zero relevance as to whether he WILL be durable. As a veteran. In his 30s. This is impossible to determine, but i do hope he plays well for whoever takes him."

Can we agree to agree now?

(Something tells me I am about to be disappointed...)
