What would be the minimum players for team squads that would be realistic across a 20+ round season?

One thing I read yesterday is that up to 150 players could be cut from lists at the end of the season because it's expected there'll be reduced list numbers going forward and to allow for some fresh faces to each club

The quickest cut would most likely be the rookie list and cap team lists at 38 - senior lists have been allowed to be between 38-40 with rookie lists between 4-6 players. Losing just 6 players per club is 108 players across the league who will be gone.

With the draft the rules have been a minimum of 3 picks, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that scrapped with instead of a minimum of 2 picks this year - and that's another 36-54 players gone if some teams take 3 picks

Its not only numbers its dollars..I can remember when lists were over 50 , there seemed no limit to them , anyone in the 2nds could play firsts... so its not purely numbers its what players are paid.

One might make a case for a few different outcomes. 16 a side for example. 32 on the list who knows. The will know what they have to do till the know the damage. If they have to take a 500M line of credit.. they will have to create a method to pay that off over the next 10 years yet create product for the media that gives max revenue. I think it the middle their that will suffer. Clubs will find a way to keep their most valuable and they will want to keep the best kids.

One can look thru the Geelong list and I suspect we could name 5 to 10 players that would be in cross hairs IF all contracts get ripped up. The average player payment atm is close to 400G ... that has to drop back into the 200's. The top players now will struggle with pay well short of 1M

I think you are right, there will be changes coming at the end of all this.
Some may even be good.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is no draft and next year becomes an under 19 comp. Giving this years and next years 18 yr old a whole year to impress.
It wouldn’t be fair on the current new recruits to be cut before they have at the very least played in the vfl to show what they can do.

Can I pick who is in the cross hairs

I doubt the AFL will fold clubs.

Don't worry the RBA will save the Australians. Just our currency might blow up in the process. Nevertheless, we will still have a positive trade balance as our AUD dwindles and our net wealth comparable to the world drops. But that's just the cycles.

The end game to Capitalism is when the RBA starts buying Equities. Then its game over, almost Socialism by that stage. BoJ has proven they can't sell their Equities on the markets.

Hold the 2020 draft order for the 2020-21 super draft? Wouldn't say no to having 3 picks in the top 20 where those picks are the equiv of top 10

no doubt we need cameron and will offer him big $ but I doubt he leaves gws.

Pure...No Doubt? It only seemed like yesterday that I thought this thing might be like SARS , and now I have a heap of doubts on everything.

List sizes... if they reduce them how many good players will be looking for a place. Scap. probably gets reduced real to list sizes. and what happens from here do we go hard at the draft. Will there be a draft? What happens with our R1 picks. Do the NGA players stay aligned (Probably this group) but what happens with NGA long term ( I think its cooked). AFLW? 500,000 pa for something that delivers a lot but not much money.

Cameron? Id not be looking at anyone like that for the moment till we have ourselves have a health check. How many players do we have not contracted that we want to keep ..so how many will we have to cut that are contracted?

I think you are right, Cameron would be crazy atm to leave GWS but unless AFL take a particular approach ..they will lose players like everyone.

Doubts?

I have not been really hot for Cameron anyway, I think he is too short term. As a FA id was prepared to go with it but now ..I think we need to be prepared to ensure the viability of the club. Forget flags for the moment. Any new contracts have to take into account of a contracting business model. For the first time in years players may have to get used to deflation
