I'm ok with that if we're looking to the future and the guys we got in the '19 draft come in & improve our team long term, just for the record I believe a couple of them may get a game in '20, as should some of the 2-3 year players.
Yeah reflection of a deeper list than previous years rather than a reflection of the new talent 👍

Rat has a strong opinion on him ... I think you cant afford to get to caught up on the one player... as a list is more than just one player or one pick... go back and have a look at draft ratings for the two Kolo's ... and one has to be a little flexible in whats done with picks (imo)... P11 next ..which might be P14 ish ..or maybe we trade up to get even earlier ... im very happy with the outcome ..inpspite the fact I think Gould could be a very good player. Could. Might. etc. Time will tell if we dance the right tune.

And for body shape ..if the irishman can come on he might be our next backman...

I did advocate for Stephens, DeKoning and Taheny all shuffled back 1 pick with Gould P1, so overall l'm not to unhappy with what we got, but came so close.

If we took Gould at 14 we surely wouldn't have got Cooper Stephens...and we needed good inside midfielder to develop as Joel gets older...

The rumours were strong the Tigers were very interested in Cooper Stephens..

Yep if we pick Gould with first pick we don't get Cooper the only way i see us getting both is if we took Cooper and then Gould but that would mean no DK more than likely and atm we have way more need for an inside mid and a tall KPP (or maybe ruck) then another 3rd defender which we have plenty of

Wasn't the speculation that the trade Carlton did which gave them a pick directly after our first was to take either Stephens or Kemp; basically the player we didn't take?

Yes was also speculation that we talked with GC during the day and agreed on the trade if our player wasn't still on the board and the GC player was.

I actually think we wanted Gould with 27 but Sydney jumped us so we took the next best option which was pick 11

Good point. As you point out Carlton seemed to position themselve to take another mid to support the young champ... although they must be getting close to GWS type numbers with the young players they have taken in recent times. If we took Kemp.. does CS last till 19? Probably not ..but who knows really.
That we can speculate and debate ..and that there is conjecture of what was going to happen ..ie past tense ..shows how much a hot potato dance the draft is ..when its live and happening .. so many individual draft rooms with their own tactics and aims..The AFL vids give one a touch of insight to the debate within the room. Its all rather pie in the sky for anyone to know what happens if we do this or that ... No one was thinking Robertson makes it to the second night.

Its why for me I say we did well in the draft ..and we are set up for another good draft result in this thread...and I look forward to seeing more of our late 2019 picks come Feb for a more personal judgement.. and seeing more kids thru 2020 ...

With live trading ..one really cant be certain that a club will not jump in front of you at any time ..Id imagine most clubs have a good idea of who is interested in certain players.. one probably has to weigh carefully what you are prepared to pay and when to trade to move ..like we did for Tarh and when to just suck it up if another club is prepared to do more to get a player.
Pre draft ..If a certain player we like is there at your pick .. would you do this etc... is probably floated with many clubs. I wonder who else GC offered their deal to? And perhaps we rated our need and the value of Gould at that 27 ..and not much earlier..who knows.. Be nice to see a replay of our room in the draft.

I think you underestimate the sheer size of Gould and his capacities to shut down big blokes.

Big kids get smaller when they hit AFL.. look at Hawkins.
But given its December all the talk of players doing this and that is just fluff.

He's still big.
Even if he is still big he isn't replacing Blics/Kolo/Taylor or even Henderson round 1 as a key defender so he would be trying to take a 3rd defender role which we have plenty of.

And i would of loved to have him but him being a lock round 1 for us isn't and would never have been a guarantee.

I don't think any draftee would be considered a guaranteed rd 1 but he will give it a nudge.

I was pushing CS for our second pick Gould first but hey that's alright, still think we should've but we didn't.
With Kolo injured it does reveal a weakness in our lack of big defender backup.
Thought Gould a ready made tweener, as was mentioned he's as big as Heath Grundy.
Would be great if CS played rd 1 but not holding my breath on that.

I like Gould but even if Kolo is not fit you still have blitz taylor hendo as def kpds (plus dek developing) moc henry and stewart as mediums and tuohy bews and both guthries as smalls. Defence is the area of the list where we have the most depth. If we get exposed anywhere it will be the fwd line and ruck.

Thought we'd be good for forwards especially smalls.

I would’ve still gone Kemp and Robertson with our first two picks.

Will compare to CS for rest of their careers.

If we went Kemp at 14, Carlton would’ve taken CS the pick after.

I would have taken Robertson first up but are happy with Stephens. A few that have seen a lot more of him than me rate him highly so happy to run with that at this stage. Kemp’s knee rules him out for me with our first.

So I’d prob have gone Robertson and Gould, assuming that the Blues take Stephens with their first. If not it’s Robertson and Stephens to add some real grunt to our midfield. Take Finlay or Hilder later to bring in a Young KPD.

If we'd taken a bloke after he'd done a non contact ACL knee id still be deleting posts..

With CS, the break was minimal and healed non surgically. At this point, ill take that.

Remains to be seen what happens but given our history on drafting injured players, ill take the lesser of the two evils thus far.
