O'Connor in the leadership group. Surprising but not unwelcome news
I don't think any other clubs would really rate him as much as we do. Their loss, our gainTime to trade him out.

I wonder if we would have been better draft a Brock Smith type ... or this old bugbear
MOC in the leadership group, he is still far from a lock in our side id have thought
Well he's a lock now I would think.
I also noticed there are no forwards. 3 mids and 4 defenders. Also interesting that there's 3 category B rookies and mature ager drafted at 24 versus 3 who were taken at the normal age in the normal draft. 2 of the 7 we traded in.

Mids in the cross hairs over the next few years? Sels, danger, and Duncan all retiring in the next 4 years and replaced with defensive mids and defensive forwardsWe've removed the ruckman from our game, and maybe the forwards are next...... We just go with 22 defenders who can scrape 10 - 12 goals a game.
Fun times ahead. All those good picks we have this year and likely no NAB league footy or state league footy to assess players
I wonder if they'll hold some sort of 'super combine', or let clubs go ahead with drafting baaed on their knowledge of prospects as it is right now.. .....or suspend drafting until next season perhaps?
Lachie Ash was a Cats fan... someone to keep an eye on at GWS, if we start poaching... Looks like he's adapting very well to AFL and in line for debut this year

Obviously more important things happening than AFL & the drafting, but maybe this isn't the year to have 3 first round picks available:
The AFL is expected to hold its national and rookie drafts as planned in November, but they could be trimmed to less than two rounds amid potential list culls.
With AFL clubs facing losses of between $5 and $10 million due to the coronavirus pandemic, they may be forced to shrink their lists for next season, and in turn would have fewer spots available for draftees...
...“It might be the case that we have slashed list sizes. So we might have 150 players out of jobs, some list managers are telling me maybe we’ll only have the first round and a half of the draft, we might only have 25 picks. All of those things are yet to flush out.”
Adding to the complexity of the 2020 draft is how compromised it is, with many players already very likely to join certain clubs based on Academy or father-son ties.
“If we had 30 of those players going to those clubs, maybe 20 of them are already allocated and they’re keen to get them in,” Ralph said.
“But if you’re cutting your list size from 44 down to potentially 38, you’re already cutting five or six players existing off your list. Potentially you’d bring your Academy player in, and that’s about it.”

Gold Coast, Bulldogs, Melbourne and Brisbane all fold and we can have no.1What a year to have a stack of draft picks...
If the season ends, do we finish at 14th on the ladder, and with Pick 5, 11, 17, 24??
Surely there is a silver lining...
IF GC fold, do we still get pick 11 or whatever the equivalent would be?Gold Coast, Bulldogs, Melbourne and Brisbane all fold and we can have no.1
Big changes coming. List could be reduced. If 10 player are reduced from each list there will be big , big changes. If the Scapulas is reduced by multiple millions big changes. ... but the draft I see as something that may persist as its a sign of optimism , its a tool to ensure a future. I think as much as we have picks that we are owed..WC and a special GC pick ... water will find its own level... and the afl will want to ensure the future of their sport by bringing in young players ...IF GC fold, do we still get pick 11 or whatever the equivalent would be?
I'm expecting that if we do have a draft at the end of the year that it's going to look a lot different to what we're used to

In real terms..the draft brings in cheep players. It may be more beneficial to have a normal draft with players on a set wage than keep some middle aged journeyman. Worst comes to worst, the GC pick , just like our Ablett comp pick... could be pushed into another year.... I think its not really relevant if GC survive to wether the pick is still valid. Think of it as a holden. They will still be driving when the car brand is not being sold anymore.
If GC were to merge with Brisbane or go into recession ..we will be in for much bigger consequences than just a R1 pick.
