I'm actually heavily on board with getting Greg Clark, if it was possible. Eagles are keen, and we could take him before them (again). If he wants to go home in 2 years (doubtful), they'll have to pay a premium, haha.

But seriously, I reckon this would be a hell of a draft period:

Delist Constable

Trade pick 30, 50 and Carlton Future 3rd to Dogs for Pick 23 and a Future 4th

Pick 22: Tom Brown
Pick 23: Mitch Knevitt
Pick 32: Toby Conway/Zac Taylor
Pick 34: Greg Clark
Rookie Pick: Blake Schlensog (if he agrees to it)
Rookie Pick: Jackson McLachlin
Rookie Pick: Jarrod Brander (if he agrees to it) OR - Re-Rookie: Charlie Constable
DFA: Tyson Stengle
Rookie upgrade: Close (more likely to be poached as young and talented)
Rookie maintain (Atkins - with an agreement to be upgraded next year)

Thoughts peeps?

I’d replace Clark with Connor MacDonald. Rookie Clark (won’t happen but we are talking best case scenarios). Punt McLachlin as we’ve got enough small forwards.

That would only get the Dogs an extra 85 points this year, no real incentive for them. If we want 23 we'll need to give up 2x of our 30s picks.

Only possible trade up the order is for Pies pick 27. They may want to do a Sydney and trade it out for a future pick before Daicos bid (now that it won’t be at pick 1) so they don’t burn it, then trade back into this year again. We might be a willing participant. Otherwise the only other way is if we deal our future R1 which is much more enticing for other clubs as we will likely slide down - however it’s quite risky for us as could easily be a pick around 10-12.

I like this, however I think Tom Brown will be gone before our first pick. Knevitt has a good chance of still being there at 22.

St Kilda still need points, I reckon. They'll want to get Marcus Windhager and Mitch Owens and they only have 272 points after their first pick (p9). For example, if Windhager was bid on at pick 20 they would need 730 points to match.

They won't give up pick 9 though, so we'd have to trade for their future first.

yeah I thought Busslinger was arguably the most exciting talent on the ground and then he had to play deep on Delean and just got owned in a 1 on 1. Boy can that kid play. Still think Busslinger will be a star but probably just says more about JD
Absolutely, loved what I seen from Delean.

On this years prospects fwd, Sheehan highlighted a few I took notice of.

Curtis from the VM v VC game and Draper, Hough, Linke, Molan after.

Any thoughts?

Given Wells has said we're targeting MIDs in the draft, I really like the sound of this bloke. Can't see him in any phantoms or draft rankings, so I'm guessing he'll be available at our picks.

I wasn't overly taken with him in the game on Sunday, yes I know he was awarded BOG for what it was worth but still have queries about the quality.

Depends on where our picks land and who is still available.

I can't see the Dogs trading out their pick 23 now that they got pick 43 for Lipinski. They've now got 2,148 points and only need 1,787 points to match a Darcy bid at pick 3. They're well and truly set.

The 23 will get used before most of their picks. Its because they have it covered that they may trade it in my opinion ...but do they do it for two picks the 30's?. Is there much benefit in that as they do not need points. Id think 23 is worth 815 , they might look at 23 for 34 plus a future pick like Carltons FR3. Its something for nothing really as 23 just gets gobbled up

Not just about points this year, as it doesn't really matter to them if they've already got enough points. Also gives them a Future 3rd for free basically. But yeah, I do agree that it might be a bit more than that (even a Future 2nd on our part instead) if we want to snaffle it

Our last 2 picks from WA have fled.
One had unique family circumstances and the other I don't think was really homesick, he just had a WA club go hard after him basically since he got drafted. Duncan and Gola will end up playing close to 500 games for the club between them.

Besides, even if we made a loss on Clark, we made a big profit off TK. I would love our draftees to play 300 games for Geelong but if you told me one would give us two good seasons and then leave for 3x our original investment, I'd be drafting that guy in a heartbeat. I'm not fussed about the go-home factor, it's minor compared to the built-in variance of draft picks.

Exactly my thought as per above post, haha - great minds!

They get to keep the residual points as a standalone pick so a trade is not without merit

One of the worse list management decisions we’ve made in the last 20 years.
Probably why we’ve done so well for so long if that’s among the worst decisions made.

Probably wouldn’t crack top 10 at some other clubs.
