Getting wound up about Clark (one way or the other) makes no sense to me at this point. Doesn't play for the club anymore so I'm really not that fussed what went down. He decided he wanted out and the club didn't stand in his way.

Anyway, based on the evidence of the last two seasons, he's going to need a good run from here with form and with injuries to cement a career at AFL level. So I wish him all the best with making a go of it with Freo in the future.

The draft gurus, in particular Doerre, have suggested there are many players who could go anywhere between 15 -35/45 - Mitch Owens, Alleer, Zac taylor, Knevitt and many others. I could be wrong, but this seems unusual and is possibly the product of Covid.

I repeat that we desperately need some classy mids with good skills - maybe Zac Taylor will be available. I dream about a couple of line-breaking silky left-footers.

Young Sheldrick from WA looked good in that game last Sunday but I would question his kicking and his skin folds

Trust me Knevitt is not Jansen covers ground better than JJ ever did.

He is not Cooper Stephens id have them on par as players but play much different games

Knevitt could be and I say could be our Bontempelli - Strong at stoppage/ Good Overhead/Nice field kick/ Great Kick for Goal

Pick 22 - Mitch Knevitt
Pick 30 - Tom Brown
Pick 32 - Brady Hough
Pick 34 - Connor McDonald

Bont, Fyfe and Petracca have made them the in thing at the moment.

Petracca is only 186cm. I'm talking 190cm+. There's really not many that have been successful outside Bont, Cripps, Fyfe and Mundy. JPK is 189cm, could argue Hugh Greenwood (191cm) is decent.

There's been lots of 190cm+ MIDs taken early that end up being flops - Setterfield, Scrimshaw, Langford (some might disagree), Acres, Collier-Dawkins.

I’d replace Clark with Connor MacDonald. Rookie Clark (won’t happen but we are talking best case scenarios). Punt McLachlin as we’ve got enough small forwards.

I cant see clark getting to the RD. WCE are right at the end of their window and they need plug and play mids. Unless hes burned bridges there by rejecting them this year they will take him with their last pick so we would have to take him at 34 if we want him i think. Our only hope is regan gets an earlier than expected bid and wipes out their later picks so then he is available.

A lot of those guys who were flops as tall mids though lacked the athletic ability around the ground outside of the phone box contest-see constable setterfield RCD etc. The ones that can cover the ground are so valuable because the height lets them stand up and dish off while tackled better than smaller mids but they can drop back to take defensive intercept marks then go forward and mark like a tall and hit the scoreboard. Thats why your bonts and petraccas are valuable as they can impact everywhere. Knevitts testing suggests he has the athletic ability to impact all over the ground-not saying he will be as good as those guys of course but i dont share a major bust concern with him i i think he will be a good pick.

FoxDog are you ok mate? Charlie is gone told you Johnny wanted his number, you mite have to go to tassie if you want to watch Charlie from now

We need to open up flexibility with dfas (stengle and blake etc) and how many picks we use on draft night so this had to happen. I still think theres a good chance he gets rookied ala brownless a couple years ago.

Agreed they are rare.

Cooper Stephens is more like David Ugrinc at the moment. He was on our list for years but no one ever seen him

Cooper will be a really good player if his body holds up.

I'm actually heavily on board with getting Greg Clark, if it was possible. Eagles are keen, and we could take him before them (again). If he wants to go home in 2 years (doubtful), they'll have to pay a premium, haha.

But seriously, I reckon this would be a hell of a draft period:

Delist Constable

Trade picks 30, 50 and Carlton Future 3rd to Dogs for Pick 23 and a Future 4th

Pick 22: Tom Brown
Pick 23: Mitch Knevitt
Pick 32: Toby Conway/Zac Taylor
Pick 34: Greg Clark
Rookie Pick: Blake Schlensog (if he agrees to it)
Rookie Pick: Jackson McLachlin
Rookie Pick: Jarrod Brander (if he agrees to it) OR - Re-Rookie: Charlie Constable
DFA: Tyson Stengle
Rookie upgrade: Close (more likely to be poached as young and talented)
Rookie maintain (Atkins - with an agreement to be upgraded next year)

Thoughts peeps?

I also would have said a month ago we would go for hanrahan as a DFA but stengle is a similar player so we probably have that covered. I assume if we bring in another DFA it will be a tall and preferably a key back.

That's a poor take. That is Clark being professional with a politician answer.

I agree...

If Clark was being interviewed and it was put to him that his relationship with Scarlett was toxic, his reply might be ...My relationship with Scarlo was not toxic.

People are slamming Clark without context....

I hope we don’t get a tall DFA. Time to give SDK a go.

There were others at the club that were uncomfortable with how Clark was being treated. I'm not saying he is perfect, obviously he made some mistakes. In the WAFL he was regarded as very professional and a great kid in his draft by senior players and talk that he was a good developing leader. Just a frustrating outcome that someone with his talent that he showed in year one from a super draft leaves for a pick in the 20s.
Agree
I’m trying to think last bloke who wanted out but not for return home reasons (eg Kelly)

Good chance that your boy Stevens ends up as the better footballer too I reckon

Yeah Trac is in a class of his own there. Not overly tall but as built as they come (97kegs!!). He's closer to Danger/Dusty than the Fyfe, Bont, Pendlebury mould.

Absolutely, loved what I seen from Delean.

On this years prospects fwd, Sheehan highlighted a few I took notice of.

Curtis from the VM v VC game and Draper, Hough, Linke, Molan after.

Any thoughts?

Linke is a mid and a genuine prospect for mine. He's like a CC who can move and run but is capable of a big pack mark for a midfielder.

Draper won't be around for us but he is a fantastic mid/forward hybrid. More mid than forward but is very capable at both roles. Speed, strength over the ball and great kid.

I haven't seen enough of the others as my main focus is the SA kids but would be more than happy with either. I think Linke will be around our picks and like the way he goes about it but wouldn't go too early on him.

I'm a big fan of Matty Roberts who got syndesmosis in the middle of the year and struggled since. His only knock is speed/running and his injury meant that he looked worse than he should in the back half of the year. I think he will be an absolutey steal and will be a top quality AFL player who will probably slip to mid 20s. I definitely think he is a better footballer than Draper but will get taken much later because of the question marks I mentioned.

The only problem is I'm not sure Geelong sees him as a mid or at least didn't 6 months ago. Hopefully they have changed their mind cause the kid can flat out play and despite looking sore and slow over the last couple of months is at least and average runner and is one the very best mid/forwards in the draft who has a lazer of a left foot.

We will give him a go but he is very raw so we need depth in case he or blitz get injured. We can do both things.

Oh great, another WA player that will be asked to be traded back home.

Will be interesting to see if he actually manages to put some weight on. He won't have a long career if he doesn't, cause he'll have his upper body smashed up again.
He's unique in the sense that he's one of the few players to look more 'built' in their first year and just seemed to get lighter. Mostly due to the shoulder/elbow I assume, but he's listed at 83kegs and just doesn't look it. Looks to have less muscle at 21 than he did at 18.
