“Not toxic” is hardly a glowing endorsement though.
There were others at the club that were uncomfortable with how Clark was being treated. I'm not saying he is perfect, obviously he made some mistakes. In the WAFL he was regarded as very professional and a great kid in his draft by senior players and talk that he was a good developing leader. Just a frustrating outcome that someone with his talent that he showed in year one from a super draft leaves for a pick in the 20s.

Exactly my thought as per above post, haha - great minds!
Brisbane is the other one at 18. They need points next year. Like the Dockers they may be willing to slide back 4 spots for future picks (depending on their draft board) given they will be wanting some points in the bank next year Ashcroft.

The Dockers have openly said they will look at options for 19 given they have 1 pick next year. They will probably be preying for a 2022 first rounder or else they will be looking for a small pick slide and a late F2 or early F3. (Ironic). In that scenario the only real doors to knock on are North, Geel, Haw or Carl. All of those clubs except us are missing future picks next year already so it would be a big decision to offload a second one to jump 1-5 spots in a draft. Richmond may be there best bet but it would need to be overs to slide from 19 (21) all the way down to 26 (28/29)

I meant Tim Kelly. Forgot about Neale. But there's still time for him to demand a trade home next year lol.

I know it's not going to be the case of all players, but I think we should prioritize vics over west australians, cause they are the most likely to flee.

I have a theory that VIC draftees' values are inflated due to having significantly more exposure and also typically only playing junior levels. I don't have data to back that up, but I think WA and SA kids often represent more value, especially so if they have senior experience.

I'm actually heavily on board with getting Greg Clark, if it was possible. Eagles are keen, and we could take him before them (again). If he wants to go home in 2 years (doubtful), they'll have to pay a premium, haha.

But seriously, I reckon this would be a hell of a draft period:

Delist Constable

Trade picks 30, 50 and Carlton Future 3rd to Dogs for Pick 23 and a Future 4th

Pick 22: Tom Brown
Pick 23: Mitch Knevitt

Pick 32: Toby Conway/Zac Taylor
Pick 34: Greg Clark
Rookie Pick: Blake Schlensog (if he agrees to it)
Rookie Pick: Jackson McLachlin
Rookie Pick: Jarrod Brander (if he agrees to it) OR - Re-Rookie: Charlie Constable
DFA: Tyson Stengle
Rookie upgrade: Close (more likely to be poached as young and talented)
Rookie maintain (Atkins - with an agreement to be upgraded next year)

********************

Thoughts peeps?

Brown and Knevitt will be picked 15-20 range i reckon. Swans/Knevitt. Lions/Brown.
For me Brown will either be a bolter or slider.
I see Knevitt as a Cooper Stephens clone. Do we need two?? I sat yes... is Long the same sorta player?
I'd rather take Bailey Rogers than Clark.
Schlong will be a DFA. I smell it in the air lol.
As for Close maybe....
Atkins will stay as a Rookie Yes.
Chook?? nah... i heard Southport Sharks will nab him if cant get a gig.
As for Brander .... interesting. Something smells fishy here with him. Y can't a bloke get a game in WCE. Buyer Beware i reckon.

I listened to the Clark interview live and didn’t think for one second he had a bad friendship with Scarlett and said just that.
He spoke about things getting beat up in the media about not only his relationship with Scarlett but also the phone call with Wells.
Wells actually called him to not even talk about the trade just to see how he was doing “think there’s some mental health issues with young Jordan currently” Covid would absolutely suck for those young players who are so far from there families.

When you actually listen to it it was bleedingly obvious there was no bad blood at all, he spoke very well of the club in all honesty.

Not the first time so called divides turned out to be complete bullshit and wont be the last.

Yes and before people on here speak about his toxic context maybe listen to the interview and you won’t have a negative view on it.
The fact Chris Scott even called him to wish him luck says enough to me

Just checked out a few draft rankings and found considerable divergence of views. So it's a tricky draft with theoretically even talent from 15 -35/40.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for Wells to pull of another great drafting coup.

My own view is we need mids and classy defenders as in blokes with dash who can actually roost the sausage, including a couple of left-footers. I think we should pass on Knevitt as we've had limited luck with Falcons in recent years, albeit the good ones have gone before our picks.

I think that's a great observation calder_daddy
It seems Covid and the injuries may have affected him more than what we can appreciate over the last 2 years , certainly mental health could be a part of that.

I do know of another WA player who was let go in a trade who had every reason to bag the Club - he didn't and still rates the Cats very highly due to the respect and honest communication he received when he was at the Club.
That's a big tick for our culture...........

Agreed.
Some blokes are rated anywhere from pick 16 to pick 32... AS even as a pool table i reckon.
Yes a Wells drafting coup will do wonders for then club heading into the next decade.
I tend to side with you on Knevitt. Seems to me like a Cooper Stephens clone. And the jury is still out on him.

Having not seen much of Knevitt, I'm scepitcal of these tall MIDs. They seem to have been overrated ever since Cripps came on the scene. I feel like Knevitt could be another Jansen.

I see the sanctimonious mind-readers are still putting the boot in to young Clark. What would they know? The kid's got more natural talent and attributes than Atkins, Kolo, Bews and others I could name combined. Moreover, Wells and Clark himself have dispelled the bullshit gossip and speculation put out by Cats supporters who should have known better.

So there!

Pies and dogs will only trade picks if they can still cover bids and get extra assets into next year. They already have enough points for this year.

They only have enough points to match a pick 3 bid if its pick 1 they are short of the 2400needed. Also pies will want more than 2400 anyway as they need enough points leftover to match a later bid kn Dib unless they go into deficit. So any trade that gets them extra points this year without increasing the no of list spots they need to clear to use those pick points..i think they will do.

I forgot the list lodgement date was 31 Oct. My concern is if we only have four senior list spots and if we're trying to consolidate picks or trade into next year's draft, surely other clubs will realise they have some leverage there, i.e. that fifth pick is worthless to us.

Now that the dogs got an extra 378 points from the Lipinski trade, I can't see them giving up p23 so easily. We might be able to get p27 from Collingwood, but it would have to be enticing, because they could easily just not bother with Dib.

We are not the only club in that spot. For example bris have 5 picks but they wont have more than 3 list spots and all clubs know it...so yes they know they have leverage but other clubs also have needs to trade back into this draft so we can do mutually beneficial deals. People do forget whether the dogs and coll have more points than they need means the difference between say having pick 40 to use after bids as a pose to pick 80 at the back of the draft. Now yes 80 will come into the 60s if some clubs dont use more than 3 picks but theres still something in it for them.
So i think theres enough clubs we can upgrade the 5 picks into 4 or 3 with if we want to, which depends on rookie elevations and whether we want to take DFAs before the draft.
