Reminds me of when we recruited project ruckman Dawson Simpson. I thought he was coming along beautifully, and I was there the day he did his knee in a freak ruck contest. Pretty sure that had a big impact on our 2013 flag chances. We smashed the Saints by over 100 points and looked to be flying. We had Vardy, Brown, West, Walker, a young Blicavs as backups, but NO true ruckman.
Suddenly it looks like we might have to settle for Ollie Wines and Ollie LordAnyone who thought it was a reach for geelong to tell port we want a first round pick for Esava well.

First round pick for Zerk Thatcher!

Can't you split his contract if it's just one year, and give him 2 years for say 1.2m. He probably would do it.Not interested. He’s supposed to be on >1.1mil next year.
The difference with bowes is we think he can become a solid contributor in his own right for years to come. I don’t think we’re in the position to consider paying that kind money to take on 31yo role player with our list demographic.
I don't mind this guy. Looks pacey and a lot of tricks and can finish. 6 foot tall. Probably a nifty small forward, or even a small defender or even in an outside mid. Number 11 in the White and red team.Eoin McElholm

They should. But, in what is a long Carlton tradition, they're probably the same odds of Voss getting the full backing of the boardI think carlton are a good chance of finishing very high with the list they have.
Would be a record for the most number of any Christian names in a team.Suddenly it looks like we might have to settle for Ollie Wines and Ollie Lord
Wine-Lord sounds like a hell of a party combination
No there is notWhats the obsession especially from us with Irish guys, is there not enough home grown talent to choose from, frustrating to say the least.
John Ralph saying Essendon's offer is 780K pa and not worth Band 1 compo.
If true, then no pick 3. Which I hope is the case since they've already got an extreme leg up in the draft the past 3 years.
Gives a higher chance of a top end player for us to be there at our pick.
Don't forget the Irish women being recruited to the AFLW. They seem to pick up the game really quickly and there are several Irish stars of the competition.Don't like the Irish connection Grimoz?
Personally I love it, great aspect to our game and there's no harm that I can see in having an adjacent feeder sport like Gaelic Footy has become to draw from.
From a narrower perspective the Tuohy/O'Connor/Mullin connection might give us a leg up in getting yet another good Gaelic prospect onto the rookie list.
Wines wins it in tight at half back flicks the handball out the back to Dempsey who runs out to the square, kicks lace out to Henry just outside 50 who sends long to lord in the goal square who hits the post.Would be a record for the most number of any Christian names in a team.
Ollie Ollie Ollie Ollie....!!!
Henry, Lord, Wines, Dempsey
We could be renamed to the Geelong OlliesWould be a record for the most number of any Christian names in a team.
Ollie Ollie Ollie Ollie....!!!
Henry, Lord, Wines, Dempsey
I dunno. They already gave them heaps. Clubs are ropeable and the fans don't like the look.Afl will fudge the numbers and give north p3 regardless.

Wow.I think they're reporting that it's $20k short of the trigger point for band 1 - will be interesting to see what happens from here
You might be surprised at how quickly kids can develop when thrown into the fire.
It doesn't always work, but at the start of the year the narrative was the Hawks are devoid of talent, tanking for Reid, 5-6 year rebuild on the cards etc.
Fast forward to now, and it's looking more like 3 years. That's what happens when you land on some late picks and players develop quickly.
We'll wait and see, but it looks like we're going big for Smith (If not this year), Cadman, JUH, Butters etc to help lead that new group.

Ollie! Ollie! Ollie! Oi!
Maybe one too many Ollies there for a good chant
Just need to resurrect Ollies Trolley's and make them a sponsor...Wines wins it in tight at half back flicks the handball out the back to Dempsey who runs out to the square, kicks lace out to Henry just outside 50 who sends long to lord in the goal square who hits the post.

Like any sane Cats supporter I love to bag Hawthorn...but they're coming along beautifully and it's ignorant to deny it.Not convinced Hawks have the quality or depth to accelerate to contention in three years - not to mention since last playing in finals in 2018 - they finished 9th in 2019, 15th in 2020, then 14th, 13th, and 16th this year - so if you’re right and they’re back in contention by say 2027, that’s still an 8 year turnaround.
Secondly, where did that list of players come from - suggestions based on top tier talent coming out of contract? If it were the case that we were targeting one or more of them, any one of them would be costing considerable draft capital, and again, resulting in the need to fill other open list spots with late picks, seeing the sheer number of average players on the list grow, reducing the probability of success. Yes Wells has a history of finding multiple late round gems, but he’s had to dig through some dirt to find them.

Its why some people are incredibly harsh on Stanley who typically doesn't get smashed in a lot of games, and when Gawn got a hold of him people freaked out as if Gawn in 2021 wasn't completely annihilating EVERY other ruck in the competition. He was coming along beautifully. Super tricky position to get right in so many ways. Often just nullifying your opponent is enough.
But it's one of those bring-a-knife-to-a-gun-fight positions; you can get by, but there is usually 1 or 2 teams/players who will ruthlessly exploit inadequate ruckmen.
Talent and good coaching doesn't always equal success. Been plenty of teams that look the goods during a season, make it to a PF, people say "oh but after losing a PF they will be DETERMINED to go one better next season" (i.e Melbourne 2018 on a massive roll, lost to eventual premiers WCE, 2nd bottom the next season). They should. But, in what is a long Carlton tradition, they're probably the same odds of Voss getting the full backing of the board
