I was laughed at for that suggestion, but he is worthy of serious consideration. We can get good things out of lost players, eg Gary Rohan.

Rohan was fine because he only cost pick 61 and thats about all id pay for billings (maybe pick 50 bc this draft is worse).

Unless we are basically throwing the games that conway/stanley cant play then we have to bring in another ruck. Question is about whether we do it in the next 2 weeks or wait for dfa and ssp periods. We could always leave a rookie spot open which would give us until march to sign a mature ruck.
Don't think they value ruck as a position highly enough to think about it that way

Not really, as we need midfield options and we all know that's our weakest part of our side, especially between 25-30 as basically only have 2.. there could be up to another 4-5 will retire next year, so we need back up...
Billings best football is when his playing midfield, but hasn't played much there lately due to injury..

Just like with Higgins. If we play guys like Billings..you are not playing younger players in the spot he is given. Now that might be the right thing to do... we might say adding Smith denied someone opportunity too. ...but it will mean eventually that someone might not get chances.

Ok, we should just be happy with who we have, and develop our new draftees.
No need to look, because there are very few trades that are better credentialled that we can afford

Difference between Higgins and Billings and Higgins, Billings is only 28.. plus like I said we will have another 4-5 will retire next year..
If you think all younger players are going to make it, it won't happen. We need competition. Billings can play football, his a genuine good player. I'd back him anytime, if he can stay on the park..
2 year contract, on average money got nothing to loose

Will be interested to see if the same level of vitriol and hatred comes the way of an aging injury prone vice captain wanting more midfield time as a young unproven gun wanting to return home

we could bring him in and he will play Ok im sure.. but players like him will make it harder for players like Dempsey and Kroeger and other younger guys to get their shot.

I think this is partly behind the lack of activity. I think it would be bad for morale for that group outside of 22 if we bring in middling walk up best 22 players.

That and salary cap management. I think they know we need a big fish next year with Danger near the end.

We will want to make a 1.1m to 1.2m offer to someone.

Guys like Gresham, Billings, basically anyone not on a minimum wage eats into that.

Next year, if we land someone, whinging about our salary cap will start up again, but Essendon has probably spent 1.6m per season on new players already this year.

How does this comment potential impact trades for top end picks - there's nothing draft tampering to it, but suddenly, teams out east may not be as concerned to pull the trigger

I read it that way and it made me want to call up GFC and get them to go all out for him.

I like him but 7 is too early. Id be trading back to syd or melbs pick and taking him there (plus getting additional value) if he was our guy.
Wilson is no sure thing to be available at those picks.

If he is our guy and Wells knows he will be avail then yeah go for it... try to trade back, get him + a bonus pick.

Tigers did the same thing with Jack Riewoldt (wanted him and knew they could trade back and still land him).

But you gotta know or be pretty confident the plan will work.

I won't be shocked if Wilson goes 1 or 2 picks after ours so maybe the Crows are a better option to trade down with.

I'd love Wilson though... Not sure if I'd love him over the huge talent that Caddy is but it'll be on Wells to make the correct call.

Time will tell... hopefully in a few years with whatever we do, we will be confirmed in making the correct call.

I don't think it changes that much. Most potential draftees say the same thing before getting drafted anyway, and in the same sentence he's also said 'obviously staying in WA would be awesome'.

Unless West coast trade pick 1, he's almost certain of going somewhere in Victoria anyway.

Might not be making big player moves (as there are none), but this is MASSIVE:

"Geelong’s coaching stocks have been bolstered by the return of highly regarded assistant coach James Rahilly to the Cattery.

Rahilly has been with the Crows from the 2021 season and has led the forwards through a period of growth for the Adelaide Football Club.

As first reported by the Herald Sun, he joins the assistant coach merry-go-round in uniting with Geelong in a big snare for Chris Scott’s coaching panel.

Adelaide footy boss Adam Kelly described Rahilly as “instrumental” in building connection across the Crows group and conceded it was unfortunate the former midfielder had decided to leave West Lakes.

But Rahilly described the opportunity to join Geelong as one too good to turn down.

“I’ve loved my time here and grown very close with the players, coaches and staff,” Rahilly said

I’m also very proud of the progress we’ve made over the past three years under Nicksy and it’s clear the Club is heading in the right direction and towards success in the near future.

“I’d like to thank Adelaide for giving me the opportunity to broaden my coaching experience in 2021 but now the opportunity to continue that back home with my family is too good to pass up, and I leave wishing the Club nothing but the best.”

It comes after Shaun Grigg departed Geelong – despite being in contract – to take up a coaching role under Damien Hardwick at Gold Coast.

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund revealed earlier in October the Cats are also chasing Steven King from the Suns.

It comes after a disappointing season for Geelong as the Cats missed finals for just the second time in Scott’s tenure.

Scott is contracted until the end of 2024 but reports earlier this year suggested he’s poised to extend his deal until 2026."

Not sure if the Crows will end up with end of first round compo for Dodee but if they do they will hold something like 9, 21, 22 and 25.

Maybe they could get involved for GC's #4 because 21, 22 and 25 = more points than the Dogs 10 + 17.

Do you think over the years you have been following these results that they transfer well to career progression?
I'm either too basic or lazy to care much about these times, but some people really rate them.
Players like Sam Mitchell, Jimmy Bartel would not have featured here, but then again, Chris Judd and Danger may well have.
When you look at the top 10 performers in each trial/test there's not too many good players. If fitness was a concern and they perform poorly then that confirms the concern but I wouldn't elevate someone based on how well they perform.

Dogs are said to be involving their Future 1st as well - so no team will have more points than them, IMO.
