I had no idea Hawkins had contract issues until yesterday, same for all of us I presume. He's just as likely to win another premiership next year here as he is at Melbourne.
Vdubs will argue against that, but ask the Melbourne supporters. They watch them every week, and know they've got holes everywhere. Question marks on the coach too.
It's a wide open competition. It's not the time to be 'ring chasing' as they say in the states, there's no dominant team who you can lock in for a flag next year.
The whole conversation is ridiculous anyway as he's staying...but if he was to go, he's not going to be joining a Richmond, Hawthorn or Geelong of years goneby.
Great question.Would you swap Grundy for Hawkins?

Or maybe he will generate a deal - 1 year playing then a coaching role. He does seem to have a terrific football brainI had no idea Hawkins had contract issues until yesterday, same for all of us I presume.
You can not KNOW what's on in his mind. Therefore, it's feasible he could leave.
Why else would a triple flag player, 350 games, 780+ goals even consider a move?
If he is not happy with a year by year contract at his stage of career, that is one issue, and that would be very disappointing if it was the only reason for leaving.
But if he thinks we are rebuilding, leaving him with no guaranteed games per year, even more reason to think he realises we are not in contention. And without Hawkins, we have absolutely no chance of a flag, surely we all agree with that notion.
This is not 2010-> 2011 revisited- we are not that super-deeply talented team that can cover a GAJ type loss in the form of THawkins.

Yes I wouldn’t either even though presumably less lifespan in the game.Great question.
No.
Who covers Hawkins' role?
Stanley?
Good.Out of favour Brandan Parfitt explored a move away from Geelong before recommitting to the club, and will see out his contract at the Cats.
The 25 year old is contracted until the end of 2024, having signed a two-year deal in August 2022, but has struggled to find a home in Geelong’s best side.
Parfitt only played nine games in 2023, a drop from the 17 in 2022 and 23 in 2021, having been pushed out of the midfield rotation with new recruit Tanner Bruhn and young star Max Holmes earning minutes in the centre square.
TLA player agent Tim Lawrence, who looks after Parfitt, said on AFL Trade Radio the midfielder explored a potential departure.
“We did consider that with Brandan, and I had discussions with Andrew Mackie about it,” he said.
“He’s not playing, where does it all sit, is this the right place to be?
“Just because there’s interest from an AFL club, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to work well for the player.
“It’s nice to have clubs ring, but is that actually going to work well for the player?
“You then need to do a lot of research on where the list is at, where does the player fit into, where they’re heading and all those sorts of things.
“
We went through that process and we spoke to some clubs, but ultimately at the end of the day Brandan was really good, he actually said: ‘do you know what, if I left Geelong and went to 17 other clubs, I am no guarantee to walk into any midfield or into any team’.
“The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”
Parfitt arrived at Geelong in the 2016 draft, with the Cats selecting the Northern Territory prospect with the 26th selection at the draft.
He averaged 12.7 disposals, 5.6 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game in 2023, having played five of his nine games as the starting substitute.
Parfitt was also the starting substitute in the Cats’ 2022 premiership win, having come into the squad with Holmes suffering a heartbreak injury the week before.
Lawrence said Parfitt was working on increasing his endurance, with his aerobic capacity a glaring weakness during his career so far.
“He’s working really hard on his running capacity, we reckon it can be better,” he said.
“If you’ve got a problem with the way you play or what you’re doing, it’s going to catch up with you again anyway.
“You’ve got to sort this stuff out, you can’t run away from it.”
Great question.
No.

Have you listened to anyone on SEN? It's unlistenable morons like Andy Maher that ruin what could be intelligent and interesting dialogue around a great game. campaigners ****ing suck. How is it possible that Cooney is still a talking head in the AFL landscape?
Hawkins has so much to offer Geelong as a forward and mentor to the juniors coming through. It would be close to devastating if such a heart & soul player leftI had no idea Hawkins had contract issues until yesterday, same for all of us I presume.

They are drunk.Am I reading that right? Dees get Hawkins and pick 8 for pick 14 and 27? These muppets actually get paid for this dribble?
That bloke is always drunk.someones responsible for Mark Robinson
He is an interesting one, thought he could play. However, he probably can't run out games. Solid boy. Probably can't play with the brute strength he had at U18s level, as the other bodies catch up in size in the big leagues.I'd be keen to add Will Gould for free, would be decent backup, was keen on him in his draft year
Those stats don't look so bad tbh... but understand your point if we are talking physicality at that age group... then again, what if he improves his endurance?I'm not big on McAuliffe. The SANFL U18 comp is very weak, if you're any good you're playing reserves or league. With his size (189cm, 90kg) he should be dominating that level. Here were his numbers:

But Hawkins is the beacon up forward.Cameron, Rohan and O.Henry is enough marking power up forward.
Who is this Edwards Ruck we are talking about?
Charles Edwards in this draft is a 190cm outside midfielder... Probably the no2 outside midfielder we probably will look at if Darcy Wilson is not available. Wilson you'd look at in the 10-20 range, Edwards you'd look at in the 18-35 range.
I'd do the last one without a second thought.Hypothetical would you
+ I am not saying I would.
swap pick 4 and bailey smith for J Cameron?
Pick 8 and Hawkins for Oliver?
Pick 23 and Parfitt for Will Phillips?
Pick 8 and Kolo for Pick 4?
Mitch Edwards NGA for Fremantle.Who is this Edwards Ruck we are talking about?

I am happy to role with Conway, I don’t want us drafting another ruck with an early pick.
If the club wants another ruck for depth take a speculative shot with a later pick.
Rucks are a random anyway look at the top rucks in the AFL, how many were high draft picks?
I don't see the need to draft a ruck this year but the ruck economy has changed quite a bit. Teams don't carry surplus rucks on the list anymore so it is not like back in the day when Cox, Sandilands, Jacobs and Mumford all came off the rookie list.
Gawn - pick 34
Darcy - pick 38
English - pick 19
Grundy - pick 18
Goldstein - pick 37
De Koning - pick 30
Taking Conway at pick 24 is basically the sweet spot to get a good ruck via the draft these days
