He's just as likely to win another premiership next year here as he is at Melbourne. This is a reach.
I'd assume in that hypothetical it would be one of Norf's fixed future firsts towards the end of the round.Seriously, where do I sign??
North's F1 is guaranteed to be top 3, which would cause some epic opposition meltdowns following our 2024 flag.![]()
Meek and Lycett where both traded for close on or higher picks than 24.You can pick up depth late in the draft.
There's an argument to be had that spending high picks on ruckman is a pointless exercise. To do it twice in 3 years is ridiculous.
You just end up with one of them getting minutes, and the other shipped off for nothing eventually (Witts, Meek, Lycett)

That’s why if he’s there and Sanders is gone, I’m huge on O’Sullivan. You don't need an elite ruckman to win a flag, but you need elite midfielders and KPPs to win one. So, let's get the type of players that win flags.
Elite- Pick 8 maybeYou don't need an elite ruckman to win a flag, but you need elite midfielders and KPPs to win one. So, let's get the type of players that win flags.
100%If we are any chance to get Sanders then we should hold the pick. He is exactly what we need. No need to trade prior to the draft. If he’s gone by our pick THEN look at both what we are offered and who’s likely to be available at our new first pick.
I'm in the minority around here that thinks equalisation is a good thing, although maybe the AFL don't do it as efficiently as they can.Yes my main point is it’s very hard to sustain the dual objectives of free agency and equalisation. It’s a compromise.
It just doesn't make sense mate. We've got our gun ruckman in waiting already.Elite- Pick 8 maybe
Pick 23- Not likely
I don’t buy the hype that a ruckman doesn’t help though.
We took an “elite” midfielder last year we will take one this year with a similar pick.
The KPP players in this draft are not a high standard either - Curtin is the height doesn’t play like one though more of a versatile type, Caddy is the closest thing and he has big question marks from a lot.
Another who wants to play VFL.Harmes wants to get to Footscray.
Are North crazy? That's a terrible trade.North offering 14 and a Future 1st for pick Gold Coasts pick 10.
Surely we would do 7 for 14, F1 and pick either 19 this year or next.
We have a lot of players to replace. I have much more confidence with the scatter approach. All of our best drafts have involved clusters of picks
Hitting the draft with 14, 19 and 23 (Esava) this year and then having our Future 1, 2nd and North Future 1st is surely a better outcome.
Gold Coast potentially turning pick 4 into 14, 17, WB future 1st and Norths F1s is pretty damn handy.
We've already drafted Conway who'll be a better player.Take 23 for Esava and if Edwards is available then take him, let’s spend a bit on a ruck for once he is a guaranteed decent ruckman and I would love to know that we have that for 10 years for Esava who is genuinely crap.
I don't.I see Edwards as a lot better player.
Charlie Edwards is a midfielder. You mean Mitch?I’m a fan of Charlie Edwards, I don’t want to get rid of Conway I would like 2 on the list .
I think we should ideally have another ruck as backup for next year. But we can get away with someone really cheap, so can probably just add a state leaguer in the rookie draft or SSP. Even if we drafted someone this year, they wouldn't be ready to play next year anyway.I am happy to role with Conway, I don’t want us drafting another ruck with an early pick.
If the club wants another ruck for depth take a speculative shot with a later pick.
Rucks are a random anyway look at the top rucks in the AFL, how many were high draft picks?
Actually, it is aimed at the lowest common denominator. You’re so right. Designed to just fill time and get talkback to happenHe's an inoffensive harmless idiot, and his role on Trade Radio is to come up with ridiculous mega trades than then do exactly what they have here... get people talking and reacting to it, and it fills a content slot for Hutchy
I see where you are coming from, I just think he is a steal at 23, but you are quite right in your thinking. It just doesn't make sense mate. We've got our gun ruckman in waiting already.
If we needed depth, guys like Flynn or Sweet make far more sense.
The build that most clubs go for is the one that works. You have your number one ruckman (Stanley), the guy you expect to replace him (Conway), and the developing player who's a hit in hope (Furphy).
If we want more, we'll pick up another towards the end of the draft.
As of right now though, players like Sanders, O'Sullivan, Wilson, C Edwards, Hastie, & ZZ are higher priorities for our list.
There's going to be a lot going out in the coming years, we can't be wasting picks on players who won't be AFL ready for 4 years in a position we've already invested a high pick in.
no the previous poster had mentioned Charlie.Another who wants to play VFL.
Are North crazy? That's a terrible trade.
We've already drafted Conway who'll be a better player.
I don't.
Charlie Edwards is a midfielder. You mean Mitch?
I am. Great kid.I'm not big on McAuliffe. The SANFL U18 comp is very weak, if you're any good you're playing reserves or league. With his size (189cm, 90kg) he should be dominating that level. Here were his numbers:

It all depends on who we pick at 7 for mine.I see where you are coming from, I just think he is a steal at 23, but you are quite right in your thinking.
Players at 23- Who do you want?
C Edwards, Moir, Wilson, Rogers, Stevens, Windsor ?
all of them are solid footballers.
100%
He's priority number one to help us next year, and for 15 years after that.
If he's gone, then slide back and pick up Wilson if he's there.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying any ruckman will do. You still need one who can compete (Like Stanley), you just don't really need a Gawn, Grundy, or English level of ruckman. Those guys are a luxury if you have them, but getting that type should not be the focus of recruiting. Getting midfielders and KPPs who can win you flags should be.I don’t buy the hype that a ruckman doesn’t help, though.
We're expecting Smith, and/or Cadman/JUH to be in our sights next year, so that'll be forward replacements and we're back where we belong by 2026/2027.
Out of favour Brandan Parfitt explored a move away from Geelong before recommitting to the club, and will see out his contract at the Cats.
The 25 year old is contracted until the end of 2024, having signed a two-year deal in August 2022, but has struggled to find a home in Geelong’s best side.
Parfitt only played nine games in 2023, a drop from the 17 in 2022 and 23 in 2021, having been pushed out of the midfield rotation with new recruit Tanner Bruhn and young star Max Holmes earning minutes in the centre square.
TLA player agent Tim Lawrence, who looks after Parfitt, said on AFL Trade Radio the midfielder explored a potential departure.
“We did consider that with Brandan, and I had discussions with Andrew Mackie about it,” he said.
“He’s not playing, where does it all sit, is this the right place to be?
“Just because there’s interest from an AFL club, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to work well for the player.
“It’s nice to have clubs ring, but is that actually going to work well for the player?
“You then need to do a lot of research on where the list is at, where does the player fit into, where they’re heading and all those sorts of things.
“
We went through that process and we spoke to some clubs, but ultimately at the end of the day Brandan was really good, he actually said: ‘do you know what, if I left Geelong and went to 17 other clubs, I am no guarantee to walk into any midfield or into any team’.
“The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”
Parfitt arrived at Geelong in the 2016 draft, with the Cats selecting the Northern Territory prospect with the 26th selection at the draft.
He averaged 12.7 disposals, 5.6 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game in 2023, having played five of his nine games as the starting substitute.
Parfitt was also the starting substitute in the Cats’ 2022 premiership win, having come into the squad with Holmes suffering a heartbreak injury the week before.
Lawrence said Parfitt was working on increasing his endurance, with his aerobic capacity a glaring weakness during his career so far.
“He’s working really hard on his running capacity, we reckon it can be better,” he said.
“If you’ve got a problem with the way you play or what you’re doing, it’s going to catch up with you again anyway.
“You’ve got to sort this stuff out, you can’t run away from it.”
I think Key Backs is quite solid atm, Jack Henry missed a lot of football but we have SDK and Stewart is still winning all aus and Best and Fairests. It all depends on who we pick at 7 for mine.
If we get Sanders, I'd be going ZZ at 23 as he looks like a bit of a bolter. We'd hopefully have our Danger & Blitz replacements with that.
If he's gone, I'd take O'Sullivan if he's there, and take C Edwards or Stevens at 23. If O'Sullivan's gone, I'd go Wilson and then ZZ.
Basically I just want the best midfielder available, and the best key back prospect.
We're expecting Smith, and/or Cadman/JUH to be in our sights next year, so that'll be forward replacements and we're back where we belong by 2026/2027.
All are very similar to Parf. I'm hoping Dempsey gets into the gym, cos he's got leg speed.Parf is one of my favourites but he's had seven seasons to build his running capacity. The good thing is there is a spot for him there if he wants it, and there's young guys like Clark, Clohesy, Knevitt that want it too.
No, it was a genuine question with a ?This is a reach.
