Can I confirm that we can still up our offer and re-sign Sav after trade period if no trade is made?
When is the latest we can re-sign him before PSD nominations?
I think you've taken my comment a little out of context, or I haven't worded it well.Hang on, hang on, you can't profess to have all this inside knowledge, and then tell everyone they can't discuss what multiple actual news outlets are reporting/discussing. If this was your own info and then we turned around and said 'I'm not convinced that this story has any merit, it's come from a flimsy source with no confirmation from anyone', that wouldn't go down well would it? It's a little bit much to ask us to only trust what you say, but then not trust what anyone else says - that's Trump'esque.
I agree that I don't think Lord will be at Geelong, as Port has no reason to let him go given he's in contract. I have no idea if what you've said is true or not, and have no reason to doubt you or the media report, as there has long been whispers that we are interested in him/we seemingly weren't interested in him at draft time. We obviously do not rate this draft at all, and think our end of draft picks will be enough to snare whoever we want given the lack of depth - hence why it's now being reported that we're wanting a particular player to fill a future need, rather than a speculative pick.
With this said, I reckon PO has got it spot on and this is just us doing our dance seeing if he's interested and then laying the groundwork for him to come home next year. If he isn't, we'll say 'thanks very much' and take a slight pick upgrade on 24 like the Jordan Clark trade. If he is and Port won't release him, then we'll say 'thank you very much, give us the picks and we'll see you next year Ollie.'
You seem to doubt anything that you haven't heard personally. Even when I posted info about Parfitt staying and being told he knows he needs to work on his transition and two way running, you still weren't convinced. A week later, his manager confirmed that exact sentiment in an interview and confirmed Parfitt was staying.
If you do have inside info, that's great and we appreciate it. What you can't keep doing though, is dismissing everything that doesn't align with your POV or your info. There are multiple different sources of info that appear through this forum - some from the media. some from talking heads with no idea, and some from genuine reputable insiders -, it's not your place to determine who or what any individual poster determines as being 'reputable' or not.
If it turns out to be BS, good job getting the inside word early and thanks for letting us know. If it turns out to be true and someone like Mack or Davies confirms it, then I'd hope you'd admit you got that wrong. This is a place of many different opinions and ideas though, and it's not for any one person to determine what we should/shouldn't be talking about - as long as it's on topic and not rude/personal of course.
TL; DR Let people discuss ideas freely, and have an open perspective yourself. After all, that's what this forum is for. Nothing wrong with disagreeing, but it's not your place to tell others what they can discuss - even if you think it's all BS. You never know, you might just learn something yourself.
Yep nice... We can also give Port the impression that we love Sav so much that we can still turn things around and re-sign him if Port don't get the trade done.Yes, we can. Draft nominations close 13 Nov, so I'd guess that would be the cut off.

I don't mean "don't discuss it" in a literal sense. I was just making the point that in my view - and based on what people close to him have told me - it's probably not worth us spending much time on it as it won't happen.
Since I posted, I see Sam Edmund has categorically knocked it on the head so he must have tracked down some people connected to him as well. None of this is a contest on who is right or wrong, and all I generally do is make a comment based on hearing from someone I trust or who is well connected, giving me some information.
But yes, we can absolutely move on from this one. It ain't happening.
Mackie... this approach matches his persona. They trade their own Fr1 out ..so we could not ask for it.... now the only way we get our Fr1 ..is if tehy can work some sort of three way with Ess ... Woudl Ess trade their Fr1 for Duursma and future back ?
Its funny for years everyone said Geelong were good to deal with when we rolled over and coughed up the deal quickly. The last few years have seen a tougher approach from us... and I doubt we are the fav's top deal with any more. What a shame.
They said on trade radio yesterday that a couple of recruiters have said they think there may only be 40/45 selections.
Not sure how many there will be but boy oh boy if there was actually 40 taken that would be crazy low.
Our last selections in the draft would come in so much that they would even be terrible and it would make trading Sav for Ports 2nd rounder (like lots of people were saying) like trading him for the last pick in the draft.
I'll just guess that there will be more than 50 for the hell of it, but this draft certainly is not rated at all.
Has Hawk re-signed yet.
That's all I care about.
Thankfully we can offer him more opportunity than anyone else. That's why Grundy was never an option for us and we were considering short term guys like Lycett and Goldstein. There's a couple of clubs coming real hard at Geelong for Conway.
It's clearly a sign of the kids upside that almost every club we've spoken to about a contracted player, have all basically pointed at Conway as part of any deal. And clubs are making inquiries to get him out of Geelong regardless of any related or unrelated trades.
Cats have done nothing but support him through his injuries, he's a local. Had a personal mentorship with Ottens. There's a couple of clubs coming real hard at Geelong for Conway.

And he won't get to Port. North have just lost a defender. THe Hawks have always shown interest. Both these teams will have enough salary cap space.I can only assume that they did... But didn't believe us when we said no it wouldn't.
I certainly reminds me of the Henry trade last year when we traded in a similar pick and all thought "well that pick must be agreed upon to get Henry" and then It just didn't get the job done.... But it was eventually part of the trade but we had to work and add more to it to get Henry.
I'm hoping we are eyeing that Freo F2 that Port hold and can snag that with maybe our F3 going back to them.
Anyway if we can get more value than 24 then it will probably feel like a decent result.
Personally, I love that we have not just rolled over and are making Port work for him.
If it ends up blowing up in our face and costing us losing him for nothing, I'm fine with risking it and It's just the way the cookie crumbles.
We can try, but that ship has sailed. I can't think of an instance where this has happened before? I know there have been trades rejected for contracted players, who the year after have re-signed, but not for uncontracted players in the same year like this. Sav will be going to Port.Yep nice... We can also give Port the impression that we love Sav so much that we can still turn things around and re-sign him if Port don't get the trade done.
That would be two years in a row where Port has failed to live up to their end of the bargain and get Sav across.
We can probably up our offer (if we want) and still keep Sav and then Port doesn't even get a shot at him in the PSD.
So not getting a trade done and thinking they can get him in the PSD is very dangerous to them (and Sav to be honest).
Sav owes Port nothing.
Port really needs to get it done.
We got way more leverage than people think and I'm not shocked we are playing hardball... Good on us.
Port won't want us to walk Sav to the PSD. And of course that was going to be ports stance on Lord... its playing power games.
This is a different sort of draft though. The 2014 draft was an awful one, and probably one of the worst in recent memory. It's widely accepted that there are around 10 players who could be considered 'elite' and the rest is a crapshoot. Even if we could pick the eyes out of it, the offer to get into that bracket would have to be really decent, considering just how much more highly rated these elite kids are - versus the rest of the draft.
Deal confirmed for 1 year, will be signed by end of this week![]()
Interesting. Not saying he could never be lured away, but happy he's a local. There's a couple of clubs coming real hard at Geelong for Conway.

If he continues to build his body, he will be the centre pieceof the next successful iteration of our team. He looks like Captain material to me too. Keeping Knevitt around him will keep him in the team. There's a couple of clubs coming real hard at Geelong for Conway.

I'll keep saying it, but Ollie Lord will not be at Geelong.
Let's find something else to discuss. I'm not even convinced the story has any merit, and it's come from one flimsy source with no confirmation from either clubs, player managers or the player himself.
Not sure why he'd even be a focus if we decided to extend Neale's contract. Not convinced on Neale but having both he and Lord on the list wouldn't make sense. And before people say Neale plays some time in the ruck..............No No No.
So what was all of the hooha about him speaking to other clubs.
Bogus?
Nice insight. For me, I couldnt care less who we draft as it all seems like speculation. THe point about being under-cooked is spot on. Development is a the bigger piece of the puzzle when it comes to draftees becoming consistent good contributers to an AFL team.Generally Im a strong believer in single figure picks... but the draft is a wierd mechanism. You are already over paying to access to talent that is under cooked and in need of development. To get guys who have been training in the system for less than draft cost( Bruhn for ex.) shows the cost at draft is expensive rel to performance. This year the perception seems so strong that the top 10 is the bees knees that you are getting way better odds than norm out of it... and paying a big price to get into it. As good as these kids look in the top 10... when added to and afl list their obvious talent will be lessened in a much harder comp.
The question is ask... can we add two player equal or better the quality of Knevitt and Conway ... forgetting everything else ..id say the chances are good to do that. A lot depends on how the kids will adapt to a pro environment...and sometime the most talented kids can find it difficult not being the centre of whirlpool any longer and the guys who have always struggled just take it as norm to be challenged and work harder. Its why guys like perhaps Hastie come in and become better than their draft rating forecast. As long as they have the underlying capabilty of althetic needs in the afl game then they are a chance. Its funny we are interest in adding Lord... a pick in 40's on a few years ago. My bet if we went back to phantoms form taht year... plenty were rated higher than him.
Wilson and Windor (for example) and someone like Archier Ried or George Stevens from the Sav pick ... then add a Hastie type late ... Maybe Pike as a rookie ... it would all still come down to how they adapt and develop.
If the club keeps the R1 and uses it. Fine Im good with that. But if we trade it an move back... my bet is they pro guys within the club who have spent hundreds of hours and interviewed these kids etc.. feel they can get something from them despite being later than the top ten or so.
