Why on earth would Dees put up Oliver for a trade it would be like us trading danger during his prime. It's been said but Dees know something they're not sharing with the rest of us, attitude issue or body perhaps a combination of both has Dees spooked with his contract length?

Oliver is a very good player, the current talk of him being one of the all time great players for the demons took me by surprise.
Not taking anything away from him but that’s embarrassing for the demons if that really stacks up. He’s not even the best player in their team currently.

So where do we go to get the picks from to accomodate the trade?
Dees would want and will get 3 early first Rounders or 2 and a decent B grader.
Are we willing to offload Max Holmes who was on the Dees radar in the draft?
We have pick 7… and what else? Next years first which should be in the teens.
Easy To say harder to actually do.

7 + F1 plus something else. Maybe the pick we get for sav.

Hard bit is cap management, and getting Oliver to want to come to us

We need to get one of Oliver of smith (this year or next).

If we don’t I have worries about our next gen midfield. I don’t share the blind enthusiasm of others on here… don’t get me wrong the club has done the best it can with its hand… but it isn’t too exciting. We need real A grade talent in the engine room and I think the club knows this

He only just signed? Buyers regret?

Oliver’s previous deal finished this year, last year they signed him on a 7-yr extension for an estimated $7 million

what about a three way trade
Melb - Get Lobb pick 7 and pick 10
Dogs - Oliver cats Future 2
Cats - Smith

add a few swaps of Future seconds and thirds and everyone walks away happy

If thats the price we should go for Clarry.

Clarry is 2 levels up from Smith. Geniune top 3 in the comp. Bazlenka will never be that.

So.. what has changed since June last year? Did the D's think the Sal acp will being going up even more? I think his contract includes increases inline with the Sal cap ..so what will he be on by 2030?

Their dominant midfield without an appropriate support hasn't lead to success in the last two finals series. They've a few long runs without him to see that they still have a dominate midfield in his absence.

People who say we shouldn’t go after Oliver because of his partying off field have there heads in the sand if you don’t think we currently don’t have a player like that.
Of half a dozen of those players when we won 3 flags in 5 years
Every club has them and I know for a fact, we have definitely in the past

It’s much more than that. He’s a destructive personality that isn’t worth the risk.

Dogs will lose a Key Forward in the near future... they can't keep them all.

Croft is a bit unlucky. He would be welcomed with open arms as a father son at any other club... welll maybe not GC.

If they were brave .... would they cut and run on JUH? He would gain a lot of collateral.

It's not blind enthusiasm, it's just recognising that kids take time.

Bruhn, Holmes, Clark & Knevitt are all early, or early-ish picks. The club will develop them, and they'll get there in due time.

I agree that we need another one or two, and Smith would be perfect as he fits that age range...but we are so hard on kids these days. I'd hate to see the early reviews on Ablett, Corey, Ling, & Bartel, too.

Inside mid is the hardest position to impact early in your career. You're a skinny teenager/young adult against opponents 10-20kg heavier than you, who can still run you into the ground despite the size difference.

Even the wonderkid Nick Daicos couldn't do it in his first year, they played him off halfback. It just takes time.

Butters & Rozee were the same. Half forward flankers until year 4. Petracca didn't get going until year 6. It's a tough gig mate.

You seem to adore Phillipou, and he can't do it either. He's playing forward.

Also, being blindly optimistic is putting your faith in Hayball & Timm House. The kids we've got now are high picks, we should be expecting them to be good. It's just going to take some time.

In the meantime, if we're going to be winning a premiership next year we do need somebody. Whether that's Smith, Wines, Oliver or somebody else, we'll wait and see.

Rumour going around dees not happy with him.

And he tattoo he's own foot and it got infected.
Could be worse, my grandfather used to jokingly tell me about the time he and his brother pinned down a mate and tattooed a love heart on his arse

I think practical jokes were a lot more extreme before finishing year 7 was commonplace

Or maybe Clarry told the Dees to shove off and not the other way around....

You dont know him to make this call....

People pretending to know his personality and mindset without knowing and making calls from the cheap seats are kidding themselves.
It's something that's increasingly common too, even for everyday people.

Social media has given the facade that we know people that we don't. Whether that be athletes, celebrities, or just Barry from down the street.

Truth be told, we know nothing about their personality or how they actually are as a person, we just think we know.

It's a real issue IMO. So many people completely judging one another just from what they see online.

This.

Only thing we do know is that he is a top 5 player in the competition as witnessed in the 160 odd games he's played.
