Regarding Esava, many years ago the club said they never trade to a team on favourable terms where that team is a genuine competitor. Why would we give a Top 4 team a key back man that they so desperately need for pick 23??? That’s madness.

If Port want him, which they do, pay for him. They’ll pay. If he was a player available in this years draft he’d be top 5 easy - he’s ready to go.

On Hawkins. Very interesting. The club and he could be a looonnng way apart. He’s paid for peanuts and sees what others are getting. He might be saying you guys pay or I go elsewhere on a two year deal. Imagine what he’d get. Fair enough too. I wouldn’t begrudge him. I’d be shattered but I’d understand.

Esava Ratugolea wouldn't even be a Top 20 player in this draft. That's madness to suggest he'd be Top 5.

Reid
Walters
Curtin
Z. Duursma
McKercher
Watson
Sanders

Tell me with a straight face he'll be better than any of those players.

Duursma wants to go to Essendon. Big off-season for them, and reeks of a club trying to push up the board quicker.

2 MIL in cap gone just like that.
Won't end well, feels a lot like Norf in 2018 with Tyson, Hall, Polec & Pittard or St Kilda the year after with Jones, Ryder, Howard & Hill.

They delude themselves and think they've got enough to contend, but all you're doing is locking yourself in for 5-12th.

I suppose with those clubs, that's seen as a win these days. How lucky we are to support our club.

It seems to be that we will be the quietest club this off season.

We obviously went hard for Smith, Oliver and who knows how hard for Parish.

Esava and maybe a F3 for 22 and O’Brien as a DFA looking like our only moves for now?

I would have really liked Duursma as an instant I Smith replacement 😢

Ease down are the definition of “stuck in no man’s land”.

I'm really happy we didn't get him. His disposal is awful, and that bow and arrow celebration is just the worst.

Not to mention, he's perennially injured and had a shocking finals series.

No surprise we were probably never even interested. Smith and Oliver more our style :tongueout:

My original post was that we would pick down the order as in we would trade back… not at 7 but to let’s say 13.

Can't see it happening, but stranger things have happened. We'd need to not want who is available at our pick, and be confident that who we did want would be there at Pick 13.

Pick 9 the only one I'd be really interested in, as Wilson instead of Caddy/O'Sullivan (if that was who was left), would be just as good. We miss out on all of them if we drop to 13.

Next year my friend, next year.

Add some more quality youth, and go hard at some actual guns rather than ordinary players who won't help us.

It makes more sense for us anyway. We want to be adding stars who will help us win flags with the SDK, Henry, Clark group.

Smith & Cadman (Or similar types) fit that need for us far better than anyone available.

Might as well keep adding to that group with a Sanders, Wilson etc types and go hard at the guns next year to polish it off.

It’s day one and there’s already been surprises
There will be more

I do agree he's not worth a top five pick. But if you're looking at it from the club's perspective, he was drafted at pick 43 and they've invested seven years into his development. CS recently admitted they'd been playing him when he wasn't ready, just to develop him further.

That's a fair bit of sacrifice and investment to essentially only move from pick 43 to pick 23, and at a time there's a premium for KPDs.

I am surprised with Ports trade. I wonder if we would have offered Esava, Geelong 2024r2 for port 2024r1?
Or did we insist on a pick this year for Esava.

I think by trading it ..they have split it. So if we take 22... they still have a future pick. Its hard to know as there are moves and counter moves in this stuff.

Schultz would be a great get for Collingwood, arguably an upgrade on Elliott as it stands or at very least able to take over Elliott’s role in the future.

Hes a good player but its an odd trade given he will cost their r1. If you look at their over 30s they need a key back and a key forward way more than they need another small fwd.

Never know with our club. We could have a Holmes-type in mind. If we had pick 7 in that draft we could've safely traded back to pick 20 and taken him. It would've seemed ludicrous at the time, but looking back you'd do it in a heartbeat.

1. Western Bulldogs - Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
2. Adelaide - Riley Thilthorpe
3. North Melbourne - Will Phillips
4. Sydney - Logan McDonald
5. Sydney - Braeden Campbell
6. Hawthorn - Denver Grainger-Barras
7. Gold Coast - Elijah Hollands
8. Essendon - Nikolas Cox
9. Essendon - Archie Perkins
10. Essendon - Zach Reid
11. Adelaide - Luke Pedlar
12. GWS - Tanner Bruhn
13. North Melbourne - Tom Powell
14. Fremantle - Heath Chapman
15. GWS - Conor Stone
16. Port Adelaide - Lachlan Jones
17. Collingwood - Oliver Henry
18. GWS - Ryan Angwin

19. Collingwood - Finlay Macrae
20. Geelong - Max Holmes

That's not to say we'd do anything that drastic, but maybe it means we trade out 8 and get Melbourne's pick 14 and their future first, and it allows them to bundle 6 & 8 for a crack at Reid (I doubt that would happen, just a hypothetical).

Thats a fair point but we have to be realistic most ooc fringe players even talls go for way less than p23. While id rather keep him p23 is a perfectly reasonable return if we cant convince him to stay.

We will get smith next year imo and make other moves next year.

Am i greedy to want 3? Sanders, ZZ and Hastie please.

On second thoughts ..... Gordon Gecko would tell us that....

Im probably liking any of your picks but Wilson combine is icing on the cake. .. and depending on the picks we end up with ..i have not forgotten George. It seems as though he has fallen off the table ...maybe he slides to us late.

Every draft I seem to always wish we had a stronger draft hand than we do. This one is no exception. I'm not sure it's necessarily the strongest draft though there are players in it that appeal to me that may be able to be picked up from the second round on. Wilson is now a player I'm warming to at 7 albeit that Sanders probably is a better need for us.

Top 10 results .... Wilson also top10 in agility.. Gold Coast must be spewing over Graham doing so well. Windsor is one that haas been mentioned on here before

Very true.... and in every trade period .. we have someone saying ..if we dont get X then we should walk away etc. as X is not an equitable trade. It might not be...but come draft night its funny how when that when you get into that range ..some handy kids are still they to choose from.Someone always slip thru.

It pre draft atm..and player like Wilson are more than holding value..as you say.. p7 may be required to get him. What we dont know is the numbers of the players that did not test.

How is next year's draft class looking? Is it rated highly and is it deep?

Another option for pick 7 is to load up on next year's draft along with trading down. Eg see if North want to do 7 for 14 plus their 2 future end of round 1 picks.

We should have a lot of lost spots so 3 picks in the top ~25 would be a good starting point.

Next years draft is significantly better than this years in the top 20. Depth is harder to say until we see some of the lower ranked players in their top age season.

Mackie just trolling at this point 👏

Port wouldnt have traded for 22 without an agreement that we will take it. There will be some minor pick shuffles late on but we will take it.

I dunno, when we traded all those picks for #25 last year it seemed certain that we’d on trade it for O Henry but Collingwood said no and we had to scramble around to get it done.

In the end if Hawthorn didn’t let Mitchell go for a packet of chips the Ollie deal probably would have fallen over.
