Power offering Richmond 41 and FR2.
To play players we already have in positions of need? Perhaps recruit DFA's like Bianco, or draft mature agers like Van De Heuvel as defensive cover?
As it stands, next year we'll have all of these young players to give decent gametime to, without bringing in list cloggers for picks we don't have, like Stephens or Jordon (Doedee the only one I agree on, but we are stacked for medium defenders and he wasn't interested in us):
Jhye Clark
Tanner Bruhn
Mitch Knevitt
Ollie Henry
Oisin Mullin
Shannon Neale
Ollie Dempsey
Toby Conway
Ted Clohesy
Pick 8
*****************
People keep forgetting we did our work in '21 and '22 via the draft and trade periods, so bringing in more players that pushes them further down the order, is just a waste. We rate these kids highly and there's a lot of them now + a lot of good veterans still on the list.
After last year, this trade period was always going to be extremely quiet. We traded out of this draft completely except for the 1st round, and brought in 4 players we thought would be important in our future build - Clark, Bowes, Bruhn and O. Henry.
Our list without bringing in anyone this trade period, is still actually pretty deep with the young talent we have high hopes for. At a minimum, this is what I would see as the club's outlook:
B: Bews, SDK, J. Henry
HB: Stewart, Kolo, Zuthrie
C: Holmes, T. Atkins, Bowes
FO: Stanley, Danger, C. Guthrie
HF: O. Henry, J. Cameron, Miers
F: Rohan, Hawkins, Stengle
INT: Blics, Close, Duncan, Tuohy
Sub: Bruhn
Depth -
O'Connor
Parfitt
Knevitt
Dempsey
S. Neale
Conway
J. Clark
Mullin
Clohesy
Pick 8 (if we keep it)
So 33 players over the course of the year who could fit into 23 spots. Adding more speculative depth onto that list just costs other players who we have higher hopes for internally.
All in the AFL world are so used to us being 'active' - including our own supporters - that they forget we absolutely dominated trade period last year, so a down year this year
Is inevitable.
TL; DR: Rather us bring in late speculative picks for very little cap, and do nothing else in such a crap draft/trade year, instead of bringing in more expensive players for picks we don't have, who might not even be better than the developing kids we already have.
Well we apparently asked the question of Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Smith. Can't say we haven't tried.A lot of players have moved so there is some market
I'm confident we have returning players that missed large parts of this year to bring in, just worried it's not as much as others
I agree we have a lot on our list to develop as well, I'm just pointing out other teams are doing more work to bring players in so it needs to pay off for us.

You just know Mack would have been in rare form on the lip that dayI wonder why Kane is so critical of Mackie. I mean it's almost like he has some lived trauma from his youth that Mackie is directly responsible for

Cooper Trembath is an excellent mark, still growing at 194 cm, best defender in the Coates League. Great vertical leap and hands, coulkd improve kicking and defensive craft, but has never played in defence before 23. Could be a really good get.
I'd be confident if Port don't get the Sav trade, he stays with us, rather than go to the draft. That's a win for us.

Is there bad blood between Port and North due to the JHF trade?
Lets theorise ..that happens. What do we offer him? The security of a deal while the option to go elsewhere as a FA in 12 months?
Wouldn't have minded Stephens personally, but I see your point. But the players discussed cost nothing anyway, so there's not much difference between that and late speculative picks. To play players we already have in positions of need? My brother is a North supporter.Id think there would be . Why do you ask?
Why would he forgo a 5 year, $3mil contract to sign for 12 months on less money?I'd be confident if Port don't get the Sav trade, he stays with us, rather than go to the draft. That's a win for us.
In doing a deal like that, he'd probably also want assurance from Port that they'll be back in 12 months when he's a FA and maybe even some sort of agreement as to what the contract would be
My brother is a North supporter.
He said they are terrible to deal with and them crying foul after the way they acted last year about JHF speaks volumes.

I don't think Pick 25 for Sav is wrong either i'm just going on what he said.Am I taking crazy pills. As I’ve said previously I don’t think Port are acting that bad to Geelong right now. They’ve offered pick 25 for Esava. It’s not that bad

How would that work practically? I personally can't see it happening, I think he'd be much more likely to just go to the draft. In the 1% chance North, or someone else, take him, he's still got his $3mil contract locked in.In doing a deal like that, he'd probably also want assurance from Port that they'll be back in 12 months when he's a FA and maybe even some sort of agreement as to what the contract would be
I didn't post that team?We can't keep giving games to guys because theyve played here for a long time. Way too many blokes took the foot off the gas in 2023 and a lot of them are in the squad you listed.
I'd expect the staff to be much harsher on poor performances in 2024. If we have a full squad with a low amount of injuries, games shouldn't just be handed to guys.
Sorry meant to put Shadow hahaI didn't post that team?
I ask if there is bad blood between North and Port because North can seriously mess up Port's plans to get Sav via the PSD or ND.Id think there would be . Why do you ask?
