As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Could Geelong do something like this on the night?

Pick 8 comes up (*after Ashcroft bidding), we phone WCE and tell them we will probably select Ginbey, what do you offer for our pick? A little cheeky, but is it worth a ner-ner-ner-nah-nah phone call to get them to sell the house for the pick?

Or is that bad taste... I say play on.

Then we just pick Jhy Clark straight after with their Pick 8, and take their pick 20 or 26....

I’ve watched a bit of Tsatas recently and dunno if it’s just me, but I’m getting some serious Kane Tenace vibes. Outside player, huge wheels, kicks like a donkey, allergic to the contest.

Kane was touted by many “experts” as a “guaranteed 200 game player” prior to his draft, and look how that turned out.

Not at all convinced on Tsatas.

Tsatas getting a bum wrap because he has so much outside game.

Jhye Clark - 12.8 contested, 4.6 clearances.
Tsatas - 11.1 contested, 5.5 clearances.

What's the proportion of contested:uncontested, though? Knightmare has compared Tsatas to Polec.
Definitely higher uncontested, but I wouldn't be stressing because he has the drive and explosive run to get on the outside and link up after a stoppage, instead of just sticking in congestion (it's actually his biggest asset).

He is an inside & outside mover. Polec seemed purely outside to me (and decent at it when going).

Definitely doesn't love body contact though like Clark... Not many do... but Tsatas somehow still manages to get clearances/contested ball + be a weapon on the outside in the same plays (very rare).

I still think Clark will be a Geelong player come Monday night.

Just feel Tsatas is getting a bit of a bum wrap when he has hardly put a foot wrong.

A day out and the media are starting to leak out the interviews and info/intel

For our last pick we are linked to the following
Cal AFL - Cam Owen (TAS), Szybkowski, Foster (SA), Dowling (SA) Petric
HS - Lovelock (SA), Szekely (SA mature), Foster (SA) Gallagher (Country 19)

As always we love to shop SA for late picks

Bigger Stronger Quicker than both of those two mentioned.
Similar to Matty Scarlett. Not only in being the same weight/height but in footy nous.

we can agree to disagree. Height yes closer to Scarlett. Strength. We will see what he develops into . Not that it matters for us but considering the increase in tall forwards , he will find it difficult to do what Scarlet did.

Id say I like him more than most other KP options. LateR1 early R2 sound about right?

Foster seems to be the loudest rumour at this stage.

Unless we want to actually pick him i think that is too cute

Being tall is only a stat TBH. Weddle is quicker than most, has a leap better than most and has footy nous which gives him another half step.
He'll be fine. Gonna be a steal for someone.
With a midfield dominated draft, the key defenders and/or key forwards are on the back burners of thought.
They are just as important but get to be pushed back in thinkings... for me the list management is the key for us looking towards 2025.

Gold Coast have a massive issue with the go home factor. Can't understand why they wouldn't select Hollands or bid on Fletcher at 6 (even though it's a bit early). Hollands joining surely means him and his brother would both stay and Fletcher and family live an hour down the road.

If our best mates (The GC) wanna take Hollands with #5 (makes sense to do so to me but still unlikely)... they might as well do us another solid and just swap pick 5 for 7 with us.
We can take Humprey if we want or just make 100% we get Clark and GC will still get Hollands with #7 (#8).

I mean it's not like they wouldn't wanna keep being friendly to us yeah?

Clark does a lot of stuff that doesnt show up on stats though like 1 % ers, blocks, chases. The issue with tsatas is he is a ball watcher and defensively at times does not even try to pressure. They are poles apart in that regard. If you could get tsatas to afl standard defensively then hes a top 3 pick player but it would be a gamble to back in your leaders to get hin to do that.

I do think dowling is worth a shot but for our needs id hope for foster or verrall (assuming lemmey or keeler dont get through).

Pick 5 is massive overs for fletcher though and they dont seem to be linked to hollands but i agree if i was them id take hollands.

I do like Foster but that's based on highlights and not watching any actual match.

No one is ever going to trade for the next pick. WC would know that if we were genuinely interested in the player we would just pick them. If we were willing to trade then we were never going to pick them anyway and WC are giving an extra pick away for nothing. It would be Hawthorn that WC would try to trade with to jump ahead of us to take one of the WA players if they knew we were interested.

Great post. 👍

Jhye Clark - 12.8 contested, 4.6 clearances.
Tsatas - 11.1 contested, 5.5 clearances.

Rookie Me Central, pretty much sums it up:

"The one big area for Tsatas to improve at the next level is his defensive running and tackling only averaging 1.3 tackles a game which is rather poor for a midfielder, but not uncommon for a pure winger. It is certainly an area to improve with pressure becoming more important with each year. Tsatas will use his speed with ball in hand but does not push as hard to put pressure on and it may come down to that lower endurance base compared to the likes of Ashcroft but you could argue Tsatas would be a more well rounded player winning five disposals less but averaging three more tackles per game."

**************

His contested game is fine, as he's winning so much ball...but it's the 1%'ers that he fails to do regularly, and barely puts in any effort to the defensive side of his game. He's an accumulator, but if he coughs up the ball (which he does with poor disposal a lot of the time) he doesn't transition or tackle to rectify that, most of the time.

These are the big concerns I have with him, as we just won a flag off whole team defensive transition running and fierceness in the contest - both elements that Tsatas doesn't have in his game, but Clark has in spades.

1.3 tackles a game is really poor, as he's not a winger, despite what rookie me has him labeled as. He's pretty much a full time mid for Oakleigh, who shines while the rest of the boys do the hard work giving him the ability to rack it up. Even if he does become a winger, without time and space in the modern game, he'll just be another Polec, Tenace or Gaff but with far shoddier disposal. During the real serious stuff (the Champs), he had 2 tackles in 4 games, which is just a sub-par effort for someone who is around the ball as much as he is.

With all this said, he does have weapons and good traits to his game...but I'm not sure we are a club who would pick him given the aforementioned - as the whispers are that he's a very 'me me me' sort of player, which is reflected in his defensive stats above. As a comparison Humphrey has pretty poor disposal, but he does the defensive stuff as well and has a really good head on his shoulders- so is a far more Geelong pick than someone like Tsatas.

Humprey is my #1 want... A want that's any kind of possibility that is.

Come tomorrow night he is the one I'll be really hoping slips through to us.

Just feel that It's gonna be Clark though and whilst I'm not in love with him... Getting him + Bowes for an F3 after winning the flag is still a ridiculously good result.

My worry is run, spread, and midfield size/versatility in a couple of years though.

Bring on the draft and next season.

It has happened before

But there are heaps more examples of dropping down a couple of spaces for a disproportionate premium

I don't think that's true. The trade could mean the difference of taking Ginbey + pick 58 or potentially Clark + pick 20.
