As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

I don’t believe this for a second. This is the club that saw something in Rhys Stanley and TDK is as close to a clone of him you’ll find.

If we could get Tdek for what we paid for Stanley we would be doing well. I can remember feeling like it was expensive ..but in that three way Stanley , Bundy and the draft pick. .. we have the upper hand.

I only thought it was expensive at the time because Stanley was injury prone.

TDK seems to be pretty solid injury wise and still has plenty of improvement to be had as a young ruckman.

If you are half decent West Coast player... you would be looking for a way out ... I cant remember a worse looking side.
Pretty grim when you look at what tradable assets they have.

If Kolo was in his 30's there's no way in the world I'd want to lose Sav (still don't).

Somehow Kolo is still 27 though... I had a look yesterday convinced he was older than that.

It'll certainly be interesting to see what we do with our backline this week as I assume all are now available for selection.

Maybe Cameron being hurt pushes Jack Henry forward... which is a luxury that having Sav helps with.

He is a UFA next year. Is he the sort that would look to move. I cant see it to be honest... and we probably give him another two years. I guess all thing being lucky he might still be around playing when tassy come in. 2028?

It seems strange to try to shoehorn an extra defender in upsetting the balance like that.

It does but they rate savs intercept marking so i think they might plus they know if they dont play him he will walk (they wont admit it comes into it but it does).

The tradebales like Barrass would hurt but could gather picks. Some of these guys would look better in another side but there are several players that have been comfortable for a long time... why move. Not their fault. I do feel a bit for Kelly .In your "reasons" he was certainly not money ... and do have to wonder now how he feels ..as he is probably going to see out his time at west coast at its worst in all of its history.

One can only see one thing ahead for West Coast

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as long as we play him and he sees his future here - he's not going anywhere:

From April:

"Improving Cats defender Esava Ratugolea says he “never wanted to go” despite a push to be traded to Port Adelaide late last year and he is “happy here” in Geelong.
Out-of-contract at the end of this season, talks are yet to formally kick off between Ratugolea’s management and Geelong.

...

Ratugolea said he loves playing in the hoops.

“I had discussions with the right people (during the off-season) and I love this club, I never wanted to go but I would have hated myself if I didn’t explore and try and get a good opportunity for myself but I am happy here,” he said.

*************

Niall's latest article only references you Port still being interested, not him being reciprocal now that we've given him the opportunity this year. They'll probably chase, but he's always been loved and valued by the coach and the playing group, so it'd be very unlikely he leaves if the opportunity is there.

I felt like he was a fringe possible failure type who was inconsistent yet talented and probably undervalued due to Riewoldt. Taken a long time to become the player he is now. Woudl probably be interesting to study those Sainst games and compare them to TDek. Id say Stanley did not spend as much time in the ruck at the Saints..he was more forward or back

Agree on Tdek.

The elephant in the room is we can’t play DK, J Henry, Ratugolea and Kolo. One of them will miss out and it ain’t the first two.

Kolo has also never been dropped as far as I can remember 👀

My thinking has been that Jack will eventually shift forward, if the others stay back. The other possibility, is Jack stays where he is, and O'Connor who is 6'3 as well, gets squeezed out or plays higher up the field.

At the time I was told Wells viewed St Kilda as wasting him. “He’s a ruck” said Wells.

O’Connor is another often mentioned as a potential omission but, like Kolo, I don’t think he has played VFL since he first arrived at the club.

I can’t squeeze Jack into this forward six:

HF: Close Cameron Miers
F: Rohan Hawkins Stengle

The problem is most of those guys are either too old and injury prone for any club to want them (see mcgovern shuey yeo etc etc) and a lot of the other ones who are WA guys who i doubt want to leave. For eg barass is local and has 4 years left on his contract i cant see him going. They are stuck with what they have. Kelly went home for his wife so i doubt he is that unhappy.

As it stands this week, we know Cameron's an out but surely we'll see a shift like we did on Thursday night with Rohan playing more as the second target, and O. Henry playing a bigger role up forward as he's been playing a bit further up the ground over recent weeks with all our primary forwards available

And as we know both Stanley & Blicavs will drift forward at times also which gives us additional tall options

A shame Neale is not further progressed in his return.

How do teams scoring 200 typically go the next week?

In 2007 we beat the Eagles by a mere 39 points at KP the week after ripping Richmond a new one. We also scored only 109 points

In 2011 when we scored 233 against Melbourne & smashed them by 186 points, then backed it up by scoring 188 points & beating GC by 150 points

So we scored a lazy 421 vs 85 across consecutive matches at KP

I get that and you probably right ... but 171 points is lot to absorb.

Does Barras want this for the next ... how ever long? Those plus 30 are probably going nowhere.. maybe Yeo and Gaff think hard. i doubt this year has been much fun. Its their choice but WC if they were hard would also say .. I hope you enjoy playing for Peel Thunder or whoever.. as we are going to be playing youth for the next two years.

If were WC.. id know no matter what you do the next two years is going to hurt. This is not the nba, clubs cant force players to go there and there will be some like Baily Williams that come out of contract that will have offers thsi year , next year etc. This is going to be 3 years

Traditionally though, wa players would be happy to be traded there. Does that hold hard atm.

Can they be proactive?

Barrass to Sydney for an early picks . Something this year and/or next year depending on the value?

Move on one or two of the ingrowns if you can find someone to take them.. like Yeo or Gaff to Geelong. Id even look at off loading someone to Freo if I could.

Go hard at AFl to get comp picks. Maybe you get an end of R1.

Id be looking at WA players out of contract like Geogriades/Sharp.. and take them in the PSD if they are willing to come

This is something West Coast have never had to suck up. This is the WC version of the GC and GWS early years..without the kids that you know would get better.

For us. I think Gaff/ Yeo etc would look better in our side but its going to take a good deal for me to take them.

Stanley done alot more than what TDK did at the same time...

His stats at St Kilda not bad at all.
Plus he was contracted and we gave up I think pick 22ish?
We're TDK will be out of contract

It’s a slightly different situation in that Stanley was being played out of position viewed as being better as a ruck whereas TDK has been playing ruck and is considered to have huge upside ahead of him.

I see it a bit differently. I know there are exceptions but mostly one gets what one sees at another club. Could Sweet become a top liner at Geelong? Maybe but id bet more that he would be a VFL player most of the time. If you can find that player thats unloved and under appreciated...like Cameron at Syd then its a huge win.

If he is not good enough to be the ruck at the Dogs, there has to be a question if he would be good enough at geelong. Now he has English to get past..so one would need to carefully access him at the lower level and what he has done when in the dogs side. Played 11 games. He is probably a money ball type. What in particular appeals to you. I suspect he is almost a DFA. Both he and Flynn present as less than Tdek in my opinion.

On the "we only want Tom because of Sam" thing. Id say that we need to add the type of player Tom is. A ruck that is ready to go..mid 20's is ideal. If we cant get him then we move on. Id try to get Flynn as he has now been passed by Briggs. He is a FA, he is 26 next year and has played 30 idd games that you could access him on.

Recruiting in system talent its more about if the talent wants to come to your club. If Tom wants our club because of location, because of his brother, because of our culture and we need his type then we are lucky to have magnet type of player like Sam. Lets face it , its not unheard of to draft and trade in players that have relationships. Blitz might not have been a geelong player without having Guthrie.

If we could get Darcy Parish to select us as Free agent becuase were were willing to add Ry Matherson as a FA then id do it.

Then only time you have to wonder about our judgements(imo) is at draft. The player is not involved. Would we have drafted Clark if he was nit a GeelongFalcon local etc.? We would have drafted Ollie Henry.. so maybe we could say with a lot of Falcons.. we would draft them if they were not Falcons.
I like your post Turbo, but at times they go on a bit much lol 😆

I just want milk that taste like milk in writing post

But with TDK, I would rather us go after Sweet or Hayes, as a back up option to Conway being or No 1 ruck for years to come. But you never know Sweet could be the option as being No 1 ruck , you never know.
As alot of teams no 1 clubs ruck have come from different clubs
