As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Definitely an element of truth to that I absolutely agree. You’re going to miss big or get an absolute cracker which we have done over the last 16 years. However we are probably running at 50% with the top 10 picks. Mackie and Cockatoo were complete shocks.

No right or wrong but it’s different why we do. I wouldn’t be shocked one but if we took Ed Allan or Ginbey or Busslinger.

Theres a big difference in taking a risky leap at pick 17 as a pose to 7. I think we will be fairly orthodox this year and it will either be clark or whichever of humphrey/mckenzie/tsatas or maybe buss that gets through to us. Unless we trade the pick which is the wildcard here.

I DO NOT THINK ALLEN IS INVITED ON MONDAY NIGHT. Unless someone want him at the last minute it will not happen.
But today is Friday. Plenty of time get on a plane.
I will say.
With the introduction of live trading of draft picks it’s virtually impossible to predict who’s being picked let alone by whom.

My concern with the WA boys is that, Geelong is a hard side to break into atm. WA teams are poor to average. Easy to offer them more game time and better salaries, plus go home factor. RE Clarke, Kelly, Jackson to name a few
I think Clarke left for Carlton in ‘82. That’s only up the road mate.

Depends on the player. We’ve seen Holmes break in recently. I can see us finding a spot for someone like Ginbey given his athletic profile and how versatile he is.

This is a very very valid point. It’s been an issue for us and will continue to be in the short term. Maybe that’s why we have skewed local. There is little to no chance of any draftee being a part of the team next year given the depth we have. Legit 30 players. Even local hasn’t helped with guys like Stephens. People will straight away point to Neale but I think talls understand why they don’t play straight away. If he doesn’t play this year he’d be odds on to leave.

Guys like Phillipou wouldn’t wait and the higher the pick the greater the offers to return home. We are unique in a way this draft as we can’t offer immediate opportunities. I’d be ok with Busslinger but Allan and Gibney would need to be rock solid otherwise the depreciation could bite. It’s a new world.

I keep thinking we'll end up with him. I remember at the start of last season Chris Scott said the club had changed their focus from what players can't do, and emphasising more on what they can do. Tsatas averaged 34 disposals at NAB League level, he's got traits no other player in this draft has. If he makes it past Hawthorn then I think we take him.

Sounds like we're in a pretty sweet spot with our pick where anywhere from say 4-8 are all equally rated, at least externally. Just a matter of how it all falls on the night, but regardless all the names we've been linked to have a lot to offer - exciting times.

He has some great traits but his defensive game is not existent and traditionally we dont tend to take one way runners like that. Whether we think in this case that our leaders can set him straight i dont know.

Yeah I think it's down to Clark, Tsatas and Humphrey too. One is the local boy who has Selwood traits who we've been linked to since we got the pick. Another is someone rated Top 3 (even Top 2 last year) for most of their underage career - with some pretty severe defensive deficiencies. The last is a mad Geelong supporter with a lot of upside and a really good head on his shoulders - who can play multiple positions.

All 3 of those players could make it to us for varying reasons. Busslinger an outside chance, but not rated in the Top 10 and no whispers from anyone outside BF...so likely to be those 3 above. Hawthorn have basically declared their hand on Mackenzie from what I've heard, so it'll be really down to who we rate the most/who's left. Still think it'll be Clark if he's there given past precedent, but possible too that it's Tsatas or Humphrey. Ginbey the other possibility, but I think he's more likely to be GC or WC from all reports.

Reiterating what others have said - but geez we are in a great position for Monday night. It's strange getting to know all the top talent for once after 8ish years (and even then Cockatoo wasn't really mentioned in that leading pack until late), so really since Selwood. Potentially having a chance to grab the elite local boy, a top 3 prospect and/or a difference maker like Humphrey would be elite. Obviously, we might have differing power rankings so other players might be higher but every player I look at, I'm excited about getting.

At the moment, Tsatas is getting his run in being linked to the Cats (which I'd be more than happy with), but getting a difference-maker like Humphrey would be just as elite if GC goes for Ginbey. I also love the scenes of Clark getting number 14.

I usually have a favourite or someone I hope slides every year, but something about this draft makes me excited for whoever we get because we are in such a good position - I'll be backing in whichever youngster that's ready out on Monday night.

It sounds like essendon and hawthorn are tangled a bit in the same names with phillipou, clark, and tsatas... With GC nabbing Humphries inbetween.

Sounds like GC is either Humphrey or Ginbey. I think it’s:

ESS: Phillipou/Tsatas
GCS: Humphrey/Ginbey
HAW: Phillipou/Tsatas/Clark
GEE: whoever is left from that five, excluding Phillipou

If Dons/Poo, GC/Ginbey & Hawks/McKenzie that would mean that Clark, Tsatas + Humprey will be avail at our pick.

Would you trade down 2 positions to St Kilda and for maybe their F2 and still get one of those topliners + add an F2 for next year?

I guess something like simply that is a chance depending on who we really/truly want and if we think we can still land a target.

Def looks like we will not be short on options even if we trade back.

If we think St Kilda are super keen on Tsatas/Humprey and think WCE would take Allan over Clark... we still could land Clark if we trade back... But if not at least one of Humprey, Tsatas, Allan or Mckenzie should still be there with #10.

Certainly won't be shocked to see Geelong or the Hawks trade back and still walk away happy with their first pick... especially with us having a weak draft hand next year.
