As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

If Dons/Poo, GC/Ginbey & Hawks/McKenzie that would mean that Clark, Tsatas + Humprey will be avail at our pick.

Would you trade down 2 positions to St Kilda and for maybe their F2 and still get one of those topliners + add an F2 for next year?

I guess something like simply that is a chance depending on who we really/truly want and if we think we can still land a target.

Def looks like we will not be short on options even if we trade back.

If we think St Kilda are super keen on Tsatas/Humprey and think WCE would take Allan over Clark... we still could land Clark if we trade back... But if not at least one of Humprey, Tsatas, Allan or Mckenzie should still be there with #10.

Certainly won't be shocked to see Geelong or the Hawks trade back and still walk away happy with their first pick... especially with us having a weak draft hand next year.

It's interesting, because all you would need to know, would be who WC were drafting. If you were assured they were going with Ginbey because Humphrey was off the board, or even Allan, and then Saints told you they wanted Tsatas - then it'd be a very smart move if you wanted Clark and you were guaranteed to get him.

IF, however WC played their cards really close to their chest and Geelong were unsure of who they'd pick...then it'd be a much riskier gambit if they wanted Clark. With that said, I reckon Geelong have the same 4 or 5 names we've all been discussing, on their board, and they're probably all pretty similarly rated - so maybe they wouldn't be fussed either way.

It would get much more complex, IMO, if Ginbey got taken with GC's pick...because then the highest rated WA talent is no longer in play and it becomes a choice of Allan, Humphrey or Clark for them (for example) - and they very well could take the one we want most. If that were the case, you wouldn't take the risk.

Will be very interesting to see how it turns out on draft night. Only just over 2 days to go!

It sounds like essendon and hawthorn are tangled a bit in the same names with phillipou, clark, and tsatas... With GC nabbing Humphries inbetween.
Suns made a 9 hour trip to see Ginbey... Interesting, maybe for the sign of approval from ALL involved.
HumptyDumpty might be available ?

Interesting...

Known and proven Carlton insider on main board, has confirmed that Phillipou is off to Essendon. That means the first 5 picks are already decided. Comes down now to who GC and Hawks choose between - Tsatas, Ginbey, Humphrey, Mackenzie or Clark.

I would be happy with any of the below

1. Ashcroft
2. Wardlaw
3. Sheezel
4. Cadman
5. Clark
6. Humphrey
7. Phillipou
8. Tsatas
9. Ginbey
10. McKenzie
11. Allan
12. Busslinger

Therefor I'd be happy to trade picks 7 and 58 to the bulldogs for picks 11 and 21
.
Imagine snagging a Wellsy's special in Ed Allan as well as a nice Josh Weddle to boot.
Or two future pillars of our defence in Busslinger and Weddle. Now that would be a coup of coup's

Makes it more likely that we'd get Clark, as I reckon Melbourne would be going for either Tsatas or Humphrey, if they were trading up for a player.
I just don't see Clark being off the board come our pick.

Reckon he will be there... Just a matter of if we select him over a Tsatas who is a good shot to be available and possibly Humprey being available... Allan would be a rank smokey but can't be discounted.

I think we will take Clark... I'd prefer Humprey and then Tstatas... but It don't matter what I prefer.

Fingers crossed whoever we land is the correct call in the long run.

The good news is it's looking like we won't be hoping that a decently rated kid slips through... It's looking like we will have options and that's great.

This the guy you’re talking about?

That's the one. Entire Carlton board and many other boards in the past, have verified his intel, and he's been on the money about a fair few things. Not overly surprising given it was basically between Tsatas or Phillipou, but pretty much confirms it now.

Or being able to trade back for someone Wells has higher ranked adding a 2nd rounder being the bonus... Yeah??

Just can't see it happening, as we've been one of the only teams who have flat out said we want to keep the pick. Not to mention, that we probably have a slider in mind (Northam is my bet) for Pick 58 - and we can only take 2 picks. Given Northam was rated as a first round pick not one year ago, wouldn't surprise me if we were happy just to take what we have to the draft, hope Clohesy and Riccardi get through to the rookie draft, and have Mullin as our other Cat B.

With that said, what D Bridge said earlier is a possibility (trading with St Kilda for Future 2nd), if someone like Tsatas or Mackenzie is still there and we really want someone like Clark or Humphrey. I just don't see it happening given everything said up to this point. Stranger things have happened though, so who knows how it turns out!

Absolutely agreed. My Top 5 at the moment is:

1. Mackenzie
2. Clark
3. Humphrey
4. Busslinger
5. Tsatas

We are basically guaranteed one of those - so I really can't complain at all, and am not stressing about who we end up with, because all of the above all offer something that we need :)

Its a thought..11 and 21 or 9 and some futures from stkilda is plausible if we are happy with any of that lot. Is 13 too far back? (Ie if melb offer us 13 and a future 1st etc for 7). Id like a future 1st but i dont want to slide back too far this year. Similarly swans might shift 14 and 17 for 7 or giants 15 and future 1st but im not sure id want to go back that far..depends on who we are after i suppose.

How would a Carlton insider have any idea who the bombers are taking?

I think you could potentially use say 11 and 21, shift 58 to a future 4th or something and get northam as a rookie (ie i think he will still be there.

I'm 100% gonna be happy with whoever Wellsy selects. I prefer Tsatas slightly over Humphrey & a fair bit more than Clark (he's a mad magpie supporter and I think he'll go to the Saints fwiw) and If we trade back for Ed Allan or Jed Busslinger and pick up an extra pick I'm happy with that also. I just see this draft and trade period as an enormous win especially since The Irish Jet Burner Oisin Mullin committed to the club. Earlier I suggested that MP was the pick and it looks like he's going top 5 so now I have no expectation he falls to us. Monday night is gonna be fun, it's been a while since I was this excited for draft night.

I don't believe "Classic Draft banter" Shadow. Sorry i just take it with a grain of salt.
So What if. Let's say what if... Wells wants Jedd Busslinger as he has him on top on his clipboard? Or Ed Allan 2nd?? Back we go?
Some people tend to be fixated on one perhaps two prospects.
I look behind me when everyone looks left then right.
That way you get see whats sneaking up on ya lol. Wells is like that... hehe.
FWIW. Don't put it past Collingwood moving up (Hawthorn) to nab Clark... we haven't heard that rumour rear its head... yet.
They love him and he loves them. And they did interview him as well unbeknown to many on these boards.

Tsatas fits the mould - injury interrupted year, but played good footy when he did play. It's like rinse and repeat for our first draft pick history - Holmes, Stephens, etc.

To be honest, we're going to get a good player regardless. Not sure we can go wrong.

Athiest but thank God you came back bro you post good shit. should be a future board moderator in my opinion.

I’ve watched a bit of Tsatas recently and dunno if it’s just me, but I’m getting some serious Kane Tenace vibes. Outside player, huge wheels, kicks like a donkey, allergic to the contest.

Kane was touted by many “experts” as a “guaranteed 200 game player” prior to his draft, and look how that turned out.

Not at all convinced on Tsatas.

I saw someone ask on the official Geelong fb page if he was related to our old VFL captain 🤦🏻‍♀️

As for Phillipou, whether his “confidence” is a good or bad thing depends on what comes with it.

If he’s got determination, drive, work ethic and willingness to learn from those more experienced than him, then he might make it.

If not…

Don’t know if anyone remembers Hawthorn’s pick immediately before Joel Selwood in the 2006 draft. Mitch Thorp. Stellar underage record, and had a lot of self-confidence. By all accounts walked into the club with an ego bigger than Donald Trump’s. Had plenty of talent, but thought he was a bit too much of a superstar in the making to serve an apprenticeship. How do you think that worked out for him?

Phillipou might be a hugely talented player, but he has a little too much of the Mitch Thorps for my liking. I don’t think that sort of arrogance fits with the Cats. No thanks.
