Do you think that Geelong already had coaches and facilities set up in remote parts of the country where their nga is located?

The northern state teams are heavily subsidised by the afl, so it is the afl’s money anyway.

Yes but when the afl ran the academies they didnt invest enough money to run them to the right participation level which is why they outsourced it to the clubs at a lower cost.

Or Norf with Polec, Pittard, Hall, and Tyson. Or St Kilda themselves with Hill, Howard, Ryder, and Jones.

I get that you gotta do something, and it appeases the ranting supporters for a year or two.

That said, surely they know deep down that this never f**king works?
Oh no I completely respect what they're doing, but surely perspective here, they don't give you a trophy for not spending your salary cap so much that you can offer these absurd deals for players.

Then the nonsense they're spewing about us "missing out on Wilkie" like they haven't offered all of Weitering, Merrett, Mac Andrew, Andrew Brayshaw, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Callaghan $8m+ deals.

Anyway rant over. Sorry about Saturday, once the pain eases a bit it's nice to reflect on just what a season it was for your lads.

With Trac requesting a trade, I wonder if Oliver will too.

If they get tracs salary gone it lessens their need to get Oliver's money off the books (as bad as his contract is) so he is probably going to be forced to stay there now.

I give them credit for having a crack. They couldn't keep front loading contracts. But they have gone all in.

They have gone all in on the wrong players.

I don't actually think we set anything up for East Arnhem. The place is so sparsely populated and so close to Darwin i think all the kids who can play just go to Darwin and end up in the suns academy
You really haven't travelled.
Its a 3hr drive to Arnhem Land (I've only down it twice), and a lot further to East.

Exactly. Instead of bitching, let's get a-poaching. Some people in here sound like salty Richmond fans.
I don't know man, that's a big call.

Richmond fans would just be wishing for injuries and assassination attempts, while telling everyone that Marcus Ashcroft was actually on Epstein Island, and Will and Levi aren't actually his kids.

Maybe I'm missing a few posts, but most of what I've seen is just acknowledging that Brisbane are the best, and Geelong has a lot of work to do to close the gap.

If you heard his dad Marcus speak today, and the love they have for Brisbane Lions, there is NO WAY Will or Levi will leave.
5 Flags and 2 NS's between the trio, so far.
This is only going to build

Could very comfortably see that doubling too, and at such a young age...
But yeah, ironically the only other place they'd ever likely to go, and it would be less than 0.1% chance, would be the Cats (because of Scott, and being Cats fan growing up).

Oh don’t worry they came after Stengle and Holmes as well and both guys knocked them back to stay on way less.

This chequebook style spending spree is to keep the beaten down battler fans from walking out on their membership and the club so they can finally say they brought a bunch of free agents in lol

who are the untouchables on our list? meaning we are just not entertaining any trade.
Honestly, way less than people would think tbh.

Holmes
Smith
O'Sullivan

Although some are pissed at him right now, Neale is probably in that basket too. 45 goal key forwards who can pinch hit in the ruck in their first full season of footy don't come around often.

As good as Miers, Mannagh, Stengle, SDK, Humphries, etc are, I wouldn't have them in the 'untouchable' category. If the perfect deal came along, you'd look at.

Before people jump down my throat, I'd say that by definition, this would be the case for most clubs.

There's very few players per club that wouldn't be moved on for the perfect deal.

Stengle to Carlton is the only way I see the Curnow deal getting done. Would certainly take that deal over Mannagh going.

It goes against our list management strategy to trade a contracted player but I think the situation we find ourselves in is a bit different to previous years. When someone like Curnow publicly states he wants to get to Geelong, and Mackie publicly states a willingness to do a deal, then you've got a fairly unique scenario in play. If Mackie states publicly that they want Curnow then you can guarantee 100% that the club (including C Scott) see that as a big win and will have a way to make that improve our side. Otherwise they would have already killed off the chat.

In a perfect world (dreamtime) - Curnow to Geelong for Stengle, Stevens and a future 2nd / Marshall to Geelong for our first rounder plus Clohesy

With all due respect, there isnt a world, even a perfect one, that Carlton would ever agree to that. :)

Holmes
Dempsey
Cameron
Stewart
Blitz
Miers
Osullivan
Jack henry
Plus Atkins for culture
(And realistically smith isnt moving)

Realistically just about everyone else is tradeable for the right price but very few would move as we dont push players out.

And that’s fine but if your expectations with Charlie trying to get out is wanting an A grade talent in return you’re gonna be bitterly disappointed. It’s not a shot at you, that’s just the reality of trading. You’re never gonna get the level of talent back in return.

The highest likelihood is he is going nowhere. Cats aren’t going to give you what you want, Suns the same.

Swans probably the best bet but I mean who are they going to want to give?
I’ve seen Florent but it’s not gonna be someone like Warner, Heeney, Gulden etc

Agreed. Carlton would want stengle and a high first at a minimum (and then some).

Maybe Richmond overstates it. But seeing lots of copium in here since Saturday.

Ok, call it 5 hours away. Polkinghorne is from a town 9 hrs from Adelaide and we picked him up from Norwood. Why? Because no one lives out there and good footy players have to go to the state league teams to get a shot. Same deal.

All good mate. 100% agreed an A grader like Holmes, Miers, Gulden, Warner, Heeney etc are zero chance of ever happening. Unfortunately, a lot of my fellow Carlton BF cohorts dont agree.

Personally, I think he goes to Sydney. I think that's the likely scenario. He's about a 1% chance of returning to Carlton.

It's going to be something like pick 9, 2026 1st and Hayward/ McLean +steak knives. We absolutely want a future 1st for a F/S Cody Walker bid next year. Then we'll do pick 9 + TDK compo to WC for pick 2 and Chesser and pick swaps to get ahead a of F/S Harry Dean bid this year.

I suspect it'll play out something along those lines.
