So tell us about your European adventure.
Silent Alarm seems like the sort of bloke that would take two fine German girls back to his room, thinking he is King of the Europe and then the next thing he is waking up the next morning, shackled to the bed naked with ducktape over his mouth and his passport, VISA, clothes and girls no where in sight.

Just booked a 6 week holiday to Europe this June/July by myself (21)

Went with mates 2 years ago... yeah it was fun going out and getting absolutely blind but it gets old fast. Was alone by myself for 2 weeks and had the best time ever. Being able to do whatever you want in a new city is an awesome experience.

Would never do a contiki style tour myself but doing a contiki tour and seeing some of the world is better than not doing one and ragging on people who do whilst sitting in your comfortable and safe suburban home.

Went on a Contiki tour myself in 2000. Met this adventurous bloke who said he could get shrooms for everyone on the bus. I go back to his estate in Croatia, I ask him for the shrooms. Next thing he's locked me in there, and I realise I was tripping, it's this bikie from Parafield that I owe $3000 for meth money that's followed me to Europe. He tortured me for six days before I managed to dig a hole and escape. Don't go on a con tiki tour.

What about contiki tours though? Are they safe?

I had a flatmate who that happened to. First night in Bangkok, an absolute innocent abroad, he picks up a hooker, takes her back to where he's staying, she gets him to snort something off her **** and when he woke up, traveller's cheques, camera and passport all gone.

I happily go to the footy/rugby by myself quite often, but for some reason I can't bring myself to go out for a meal solo.

Going for a meal solo is tough, although you get used to it when you have to travel for work. Eating alone just becomes something you have to get used to. Getting room service gets very boring after a while.

Have been to the footy a number of times by myself.

I'd rather have a chat :). You can meet interesting people in hotels.
Depends on the time of day I guess. If for breakfast or lunch and you had a lecture/job interview/business meeting afterwards you may be less inclined for a chat. If done at the end of the day and the mood is to relax then meeting new people may be preferred.

Nothing wrong with going out alone. One of the best nights I've had out was because two of my mates picked up early in the night. I decided to carry on alone and have a few drinks. Ended up chatting with a lady til 5am. She's been a friend of mine for years.

I've eaten at sizzler alone (who wants to talk during all you can eat?) and I duck out of uni to see movies alone because mates are working.

If the mrs goes out with her friends I settle in with fifa, a movie and stay up for the soccer. I could go out with mates but that costs $$$ and I can't be arsed.

Going to the football or movies by yourself can be better than with a friend.

I'm big into hiking and recently just started doing overnight hikes by myself and may not see anyone for a whole day, I enjoy it and tend to reach my destination quicker, but in the back of my mind there is that feeling if I broke my leg right now how long would it be before someone finds me. or will a crazed man hiding in the bushes bludgeon me to death tonight whilst asleep in my tent.

Sometimes I go out alone at night and hide in bushes.

It is for people too mentally lazy to prepare themselves and too scared to face inevitable issues.
.
Earlier in the thread you were saying you couldn't line up outside a club on your own, yet you bag people who go on guided tours.

Which character do you wanna play mate? The neurotic Woody Allen, or the suave worldly traveller?

True. If you travel for work you have to get used to it. A proper sit down restaurant is a little uncomfortable. I tend to go to a place where I can just order at a bar and watch a game or something. Often people are in a similar boat and you can strike up a conversation.

Happened to me a lot. Used to just go to the restaurant at the hotel, or some bar snacks where a lot of other solo people were with work as well.
