Oh Dear!!!!

The brown matter has hit the fan in a big way at Windy Hill it appears according to Caro Wilson.... Hird, Goodwin and co were "At the front of the queue" during injecting sessions...

This does not look good....

Having embraced and never appropriately questioned the irregular practices implemented by sport scientist Stephen Dank that punctuated the Bombers' ultimately disastrous 2012 season, Hird led by example and worse.
The most honourable move for Hird now would be to resign. At the least Essendon should stand him down until the ASADA investigation into the club has run its race.
The Bombers' internal investigation will almost certainly end the tenure of club chief Ian Robson, who seemed to have no clear picture of the damage that was being done on his watch. Nor has the evidence been kind to Hird's long-time ally and Essendon football manager Danny Corcoran, who also looks certain to go.
Chairman David Evans addressed the Essendon players over two sessions on Wednesday in an attempt to outline his knowledge of what substances they had allegedly unknowingly taken, and the mood among those players has been one of increased concern.
The future of senior assistant Mark Thompson, who introduced high-performance chief Dean Robinson to the club, who in turn brought in Dank, remains unclear. Dank had lasted three months at the Gold Coast Suns before being told to leave and was persona non grata at Cronulla, and yet none of the above checked his credentials or his record.
The club's long-time doctor, Bruce Reid, has told colleagues he wrote to the board expressing concerns about the so-called ''irregular practices''. Hird has told those close to him he trusted the wrong people and feels badly let down.
And yet evidence is mounting that Hird, whose fascination with various supplements dates back at least a decade to his relationship with convicted drug offender Shane Charter, was a key player and supporter of those practices.
As Essendon became something of a part-time lab experimenting and pushing medical boundaries, Hird's players became human pin cushions for a time. According to two players from 2012 now deeply concerned at their actions, Hird and his assistant Simon Goodwin were ''at the front of the queue'' during some injecting sessions.
Dank has alleged to Fairfax Media that Hird, Goodwin and another assistant, James Byrne, took substances outside the World Anti-Doping Agency code. Hird's response has indicated that if he was taking banned substances he did so unknowingly

Well I hope for his Goodwins sake that he's in the same boat as the players, being told something is OK and not against the rules.

What are the rules regarding coaches taking banned substances?

None at all as far as WADA are concerned, whether Vlad whips out the game into disrepute line is anyones guess

Isn't this really just an opinion piece, though? It's not really a fact-breaking article, it's just Caro saying that the coaches should take responsibility for not questioning Dank's methods.

I wonder, if Hird was a terrible coach, would Dank have been sacked for not questioning Hird's methods? Seriously, you hire coaches to coach, not to question supposed professionals. If it turns out the people being put into positions of authority at your club shouldn't be there, it's the administrators who should be held accountable, not the coaches. For all intents and purposes, the coaches and the fitness staff are peers. If you start expecting a culture where the coaches, assistant coaches at that, start to question every decision made by the other top-level staff members (and if they don't, and shit hits the fan, they to will be held responsible), the game as a whole will move backwards.

Hird, Goodwin, and co would have placed their full faith in the man that was appointed by the administrators of the club to do a job. By being at the front of the queue, they were setting an example. If it turns out they were hoodwinked by an irresponsible medical maverick, then two groups of people are to be held responsible. Dank himself, and the administrators who didn't do their due diligence on him.

Yes, it's an opinion piece Stabby, but it is in response to another story which alleges the facts.

Goody's not our only link to Essendon darts gallery either ...

Dank has alleged to Fairfax Media that Hird, Goodwin and another assistant, James Byrne, took substances outside the World Anti-Doping Agency code. Hird's response has indicated that if he was taking banned substances he did so unknowingly.

Hmmmm, I was just going by the ABC article, bloody journalists not doing their research and making internet forum users look like clowns

Essendon coach James Hird has denied allegations he was injected with a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Fairfax media is reporting that sports scientist Stephen Dank injected Hird with a growth hormone that WADA banned in 2004.
Hird would not break the WADA code by taking the substance because he is a coach and not an athlete.

See, this is why I hate about modern journalists;

Your job is meant to be to REPORT what's happened Caro.

You aren't the bloody judiciary or executive who gets to decide who does what - she shouldn't even comment on that.

Yes understand King Elvis and whilst Caro might get a bit dramatic, like that statement .
But what she does do is find out these things and gets basic facts and not afraid to write what she knows.
Surely thats what we all need to know if someone is breaking the rules , and yes in case of Tippett saga it hurt our club .
You have to remember that sometimes even AFL dont want us to know some of happenings at clubs.
I am sure she is on the money here also but Vlad will have to sanitise it somehow to avoid a club scandal almost as big as Storm salary saga.
But some people there are going to have to take a hit and will be interesting to see how it all evolves.
Whilst Goody one of my favourite players it is not first time his actions off the field have come in question along with strong rumours whilst Carey was at club.

Unbelievable/bizarre some of the substances allegedly being injected though, extracts from pig's brains, extracts from sheep placentas, tree bark etc....this is Witch Doctor stuff surely, using Human Growth Hormone, Peptides, etc approved for use in Humans where there is evidence of performance enhancement you could understand though not condone......The coach and staff knowingly bypassing the highly respected Club Doctor Bruce Reid is where it gets very, very murky IMO.

Coaches taking WADA non approved supps isn't news worthy. I'm pretty sure I've probably taken some in some energy sups I've used in gym work, as I don't have to worry about WADA, so long as it's legal.

However, the implication is if a coach of a football team is taking them......it's highly ****ing likely the team are.

And we're talking about first cows milk etc. This isn't roids.

Hopefully Caros caught wind of some rubbish rumour. Would be devo if there is some truth to it
Highly unlikely Caro would go with this if she hasn't got some pretty strong info.....it's usually The Age investigative journos that break the "big" stories...

That depends upon whether the article is intended to be news or opinion. It shouldn't be both, within the same article. If it's news, then she's out of line. If it's opinion, then she's entirely within her rights to state what she thinks the outcome should be.
