Statistically Birchall destroys McLean, and McLean has played far more games.

McLean is also older than Birchall.

Now many of you who don't watch a lot of games may not have seen much of the Birch, and I would ask you guys to refrain from polling here. I am actually only after the footy experts on here who watch all games.

So who would you prefer Birchall or McLean. I would say it's a tough call because they both look like amazing players, but Birchall is bigger, quicker and a much better kick. McLean is in and under, but has limited ability for improvement.

Birchall just looks special to use Bruce's words...

Both are very good players, but McLean is such a safe bet. Awfully close though. Ask me again at the end of this season.

McLean.

I actually think he's serious.
Can you also prove that "Statistically Birchall destroys McLean"? How can you let RJ get to you that much?

Here we go again.
Mclean Birchall
age 20 19
2006 games 18 16
disposals 22.4 19.1
marks 5.1 5.4
tackles 4.8 1.9
goals 0.8 0.2
clearances 4.7 1.4
inside 50 4.5 3.2
1%ers 4.3 1.8
1st possessions 5.8 0.6
I cant see how Birchall destroys Mclean. And theres 1 year difference in age.

The Correct stats are ...

You guys keep using pro-stats because it includes the NAB cup which doesn't count...

Birchall - McLean
Average Disposals 19.3 - 16.5
Average Marks - 5.4 - 3.8
Average Ranking - 70.4 - 69.9

Birchall 19 (just turned)
McLean 20 (21 in three weeks)

2 years OLDER

Pro-stats doesn't include NAB cup, it includes finals though.

And his stats were correct. Also, you're using the stats over their careers rather than for season 2006, which is pretty stupid considering the fact that McLean was given significantly reduced game time early on in his career to ease him into the side.

Here's the stats from finalsiren for 2006, exactly the same as the ones The Flash posted:

http://www.finalsiren.com/PlayerCom...ame3=&PlayerName4=&SelectedPlayers=1618,1399,

As you can see, McLean is significantly better. Oh, and the AFL have officially listed him in their 2007 prospectus as the equal best player in the comp with Chris Judd. So please explain how Birchall is better, this will be good.

If we're talking about now, why don't you post 2006 stats? In McLean's first years he didn't get much game time, how about stats relating to effectiveness per minute? It's also helpful that your stats don't include clearances, inside 50, 1%, contested possessions and first possessions.
Keep putting McLean up against all these players, you'll win one eventually when people get sick of all the McLean threads.

With fairness to Grant Birchall - it should be pointed out that many people on this site immediately agree with me regardless of what I say, so they probably just read the options without even considering the argument and saw the "RJ is right" option and straight away went with that.

LOL... in fairness to Birchall many people haven't had enough time to see him, hence will pick McLean by default.

I didn't put the Birch up because I thought he would win the poll, I did it so I could add this to my list of threads to bump one day when it matters...

Will be a lot of eggs planted on faces when I'm done...

Birchall is better than McLean when comparing the first 20 or so games of each player by a mile........

Obviously McLean has had much more time to cement his name in the football world since, but give the Birch the same time and I am certain he will over-take McLean and then afterburn him too...

Firstly, the stats I have provided are CORRECT as they are from 2006 which I clearly stated.
Secondly if you look at the ratings for that year Mclean has 1686 with an average of 93.7, whereas Birchall has 1127 with an average of 82.7.
Thirdly Mclean has 94 more disposals than Birchall but played only 2 more games, and had limited game time. 56 more tackles, and 11 more goals.
You better go have a lay down and rest that empty head of yours.
Because youve just been proven wrong.

H2F you are embarrassing yourself - again. Birchall couldn't shake McLeans penis after a leak! Brock is the best under 21 player in the league.

When you are a loser, you have to try and blend with someone. Of course I am out-numbered, I strategically place myself in these positions because I enjoy it... so I would expect you drones to surface in Brock's defence.

Melbourne don't want you either so go back to Bay13 pea brain.

Finals football is what is all about.. McLean has dominated a final.. Birchall hasn't played one yet, until he does and puts in a performance like Brock did.. Then I may rate him in the same league as McLean until then McLean>Birchall

Well we always knew you lacked any football knowledge but thanks once again for proving it.
And did you vote for Birchall? H2F never likes to do public polls because its obvious that only Hawk fans will vote Birchall. Anyone like to put their hand up and admit it so we can have a good laugh.

^ I think you're overstating the case. I voted McLean but Birchall had a great 2006 and will be an elite player, no question.

I agree, he'll be a fantastic player as long as the Hawks hold on to Hodge and Mitchell to feed him the ball.

forget the stats...
mclean is the better player by a mile...
watch them both play, then ull see...

mclean is the next melbourne captain
