Remember the players of the last 20 years?

Compare them to this group.

Notice something? We have no spine, and we have no hero's for the fans.

Lyon, Neitz, Stynes, Robertson, Farmer etc.

We have nobody in this mould anymore and it shows.

Maybe Trengove will be, maybe he won't.

Other than that, we look fairly thin. There's just nobody for us to hang our hats on :(

The ones we SHOULD be hanging our hats on are the ones who are letting us down. Green, Davey and Moloney were awful today and showed why they were not included in the leadership group. Those are the guys who should be standing up today and they did nothing.

We have some players with the potential to be heroes, guys like Trengove and Frawley to name two, but we still lack a few others.

Trengove, Frawley, Howe, Magner, Jones and others all have the potential to be the players we hang our hats on. It hasn't yet happened and it may never happen, but these are the most likely (surprise surprise it's also the blokes who gave a shit today)

Swooper spoke movingly of Jim Stynes, and boy, did that make me miss those days. Yep, there was one bad afternoon in '88 but other than that, his teams busted their guts.

We don't need another hero (heard that somewhere else actually), we need patience.

Giving our lot a high performance, AFL standard gameplan is a shock to the system akin to pouring 98 premium unleaded into a '78 Statesman.

Many of our boys are going to be found out because Neeld is actually holding them to account. We've been winging it since '64 and the time has come to stop playing how we want to play and start playing how we have to play.

Neeld and co will address our issues.

For too long I've been taking the red pill out of frustration but from now on I'll be taking the blue (chill) pill because I know we have a coaching hierarchy who will actually get pissed off on our behalf - they won't accept this and heads will roll at the end of the year.

2012 is about seeing who will sink and who will swim.

is not a bad thing to get an outside perspective of things. my perspective is that of an old rugby league player/coach. there are some surprising similarities between the two codes. simmilar, but varying in importence.

firstly, to all dees fans, i wouldnt cast the baby out with the water. besides dropping the ball, and make some bad decisions, they werent that far out of the hunt with brisbane, despite all their mistakes. dont take anything away from the lions, they didnt do much wrong. they werent unbeatable either.

the one glaring, obvious, and critical mistake, the one that saw melbourne out of the contest was TACKLING! as simple as that. they did not tackle with any commitment. they did arm tackles like 8yo's. in fact, i coach 8yo's (rl) that tackle way better than all the dees. there is no excuse for that. the dees dont lack courage or skill; it was their lack of commitment to tackling.

it was demonstrated for all to see, when a brisbane player, showed complete contempt for the dees defence, by running through the complete midfield 50m towards the goals, ignoring the support he had and his opportunities to offload. ironically, he was tackled beautifully, if not eventually....

yes, the dees need a new coach. but not THE COACH. you need a TACKLING COACH. borrow one from the storm. get an ex NRL player. it dosnt matter. but the DEES have got to start TACKLING!

IF the dees would have tackled as well as brisbane did, it would have changed the game. good tackling puts preasure on the ball carrier, cuts down his decision time, puts doubt in his mind about getting hit and hurt, and leads to more opportunity to get the ball back from the attacker.

so, its not all negative for the dees. they werent far off the pace. they just didnt tackle. luck went against them a bit, but you make your own luck.

when you think about grand final winners in the NRL (perhaps the AFL as well) they had great defence. if the dees want to get competitive they must APPOINT A TACKLING COACH!!

i imagine its been discussed that this player or that player needs resting. i say give them all another go, but instructthem to TACKLE!! put some faith in the group but DEMAND GREAT TACKLING!

Frawley did NOT give a shit yesterday. And if he DID, then I have never seen someone go from AA backman, to completely inept so quickly.

In case you can't tell, I'm getting tired of Chip being immune to criticism. I can't remember the last time he played a game up to the standard of which he is capable.

Very true. But unfortunately for us members who spend our hard earned year after year, to pay these spineless flogs to put in insipid efforts the time has come for something to be done now.

The 78 statesman runs on leaded petrol, so putting 98 octane into it won't help without an additive. Maybe it's time to trade a few of them in for a couple of new GTRs before the Rego is due. ;)

I have full faith in Neeld as a coach, but he is only as good as the players he has to implement this game plan.

I hear you, it's a broken record scenario.

Probably wouldn't run either and that is related to Neeld hinting we don't have enough players at AFL standard so they won't grasp a more accountable gameplan and approach. Some GTRs would be very nice.

...and that is why we have no choice but to be patient, I'm resigned to it. Our list was always going to be sorted out rather quickly with Neeld and when you raise the bar more will fall under it. As long as he gets the right type of players into the team.

Guys i dont give a shit about the game plan, if you cant win the ball at stopages and centre bounes you are not going to win, its as simple as that.
Bad day at the office boys but i am not giving up on the club that i love!

He made a couple of mistakes, but he wasn't THAT bad.

Jesus!

i wonder how much better we would've been these last 8 years if scotty thompson had never have deserted us. fk scully there was our elite mid who walked out on us.

He is almost the forgotten man from our list all those years ago - was just starting to turn the corner when he wanted to go home. At the time we did well to get that first rounder which went to Geelong for Moloney. Thompson would be rather handy in our midfield at the moment.

I think everyone is quick to forget what Moloney did last year in the first 6 weeks, should have been leading the Brownlow easily, i am sure he is just as dissapointed as everyone that was there yesterday, he will bounce back!!!
Keep the faith gang!!!!!!!!!!

What about the last 16 weeks of it?

And, CFH, tell me that in the off-season ;)

you dont need 1 hero. you need 18 team mates on the park, tackling like demons, with enthusiasm.

its not rocket science. dont give theother side easy ball. tackle the pricks. put preasure on them.
