This year he has been terrible. He is getting outmarked and outplayed in most contests. He seems to also be running around like a headless chook. Today he nearly cost a goal with a terrible hospital handpass in the defensive 50.

Anyone else feeling it? What should be done with Harry? I know he plays a pivotal role in the defensive 50, but for me he is out of form.

When he is good he can be great but it is so rare these days. Usually a liability on the ground. Sometimes you think we'd be better playing 17 men. Completely lost at the moment.

Looks worse when he's one of the senior backmen , get shaw, reid and toovey back and he'll be playing on the 3rd or 4th best fwd.

Yidaki?

Mate, come on. He has played some outstanding games this year. He has equally played some horrible matches this year. His problem in 2012 seems to be that he is far too hot and cold. But I for one think he is the one suffering from Shaw, Reid, Toovey, Tarrant and Brown being out for large portions of the year. We have not been settled at all back there and Harry is wonderin whether he is an offensive guy or a defensive guy.
In previous seasons he has been very good one on one. This year he has been poor. I think he can definitely bounce back, and I think he will surrounded by a settled defensive 6 in Maxwell, Tarrant/Brown, Reid, Shaw and Toovey.
Just go back to the Adelaide match, he was very good that night.

The bolded part makes the most sense as to 'one' of the reasons why he hasn't been playing well generally this year. Still, I stick by what I said. He is not the same player as he was in 2010.

Keep the faith. He will be ok. Despite what stupid people think, it's not from lack of effort.

Yes, I don't doubt his effort either. It's just his form that is quite dubious.

Harry will be OK, his only issue at the moment is the high ball where the other team break through and he has to find his man and make the spoil. He should pretty much just forget trying to make body contact and just watch the ball and he'll win more than lose. Every time though he takes his eye off the ball in flight to find body contact and the opponent slips around him. I think they can calibrate him with this, so I expect the 2010 O'Brien later in the year.

One of the worst individual games I've ever seen, one on one you may aswell just hand the opposition the ball

Teams have got better at getting through zones and presses this year meaning more backmen are found under the pressure of a quick entry and or a one on one. In 2010 all our backmen had the luxury of outnumbering the forwards at nearly every contest.

He was awful today. Couldn't mark, very suspect one on one and no drive whatsoever. I will accept, however, his role changes week to week given the injuries and this could be impacting on his game. Even so, a spell in the twos might do wonders for his confidence.

Shocking season for Harry. Gets out marked easily, plays on at every opportunity & just looks a shell of the player he was. Unfortunately with all the injuries he prob keeps his spot.

He's been out of form for 2 years! Plus he shouldn't even have been All Australian, not that that shit even matters. Although every poster uses that whenever defending their own player for whatever reason.

Can't drop him with all our defenders getting injured this season.

His struggling big time this year but he'll come through it just like Dawesy will. Not every player can play great every week of every year of their career. Only the true superstars can do that.

I think with the style we play now which is a little more attacking then under Mick leaves us open for rebound attacks. He gets caught out to easy when it comes in fast and worries about his man and the ball. He needs to either back his judgement and just worry about the ball or stay close to his man.

Is he a stopper or a attacking back?

It's that F......ing HAIR !!!!

It's weighting him down as he can't leap to punch or take a mark anymore. If we didn't have so many injured backmen I'd be dropping him to the VFL !!!

Yer let's drop him and chuck Yagmoor in I say. Yagmoor is proven to be sooooo much better.

I mean, Harry, you should be able to be awesome constantly. Yagmoor or Cribbin would do your job better.

Ok. Let's cut the crap. Harry O'Brien is best at the Harry O'Brien role. Which he is currently not playing, because we have 3 of our top-line back 6 out.
You drop Marley, Young and (debatable) Buckley - and replace them with Reid, Toovey and Shaw.... Harry will be playing his role. Right now he is trying to fill the void left by Tooves, Reid and Shaw - who are all amazing rebound players - and *surprise surprise* he's not doing it amazingly.

Currently there is none better to play the Harry O role other than Harry O.

He will come good. As will Dawes. We won the 2010 season with a lot of blokes just doing their job. You didn't see cloke and Dawes kicking bags in 2010. So why has this expectation now been put on them? We now have Goldsack and fasolo and Sinclair contributing 3-8 goals between them per week. It's OK EVERYONE.
