Rawlings has played at that level for most of his career and has never been discussed as an AA hopeful. He has won multiple North B&Fs. He is an honest trier, he's not an elite player that you'd have in AA teams. Hence my surprise.

Personally I think Harry's year has been overrated. He's a quality player when in full flight, but IMO Harry in full flight happens far too infrequently. He had a couple of absolute standout games, but also a number of stinkers, or games where he had little impact. At this point as talented as he is, I rate Heath Shaw as far more important to our backline than Harry. And while he didn't have the eye catching games Harry had, I thought he has been the more consistent player both in attack and defensively.

Rawlings has played the majority of his career in the midfield.

The last year, has seen him move to a permanent back-pocket player, and still maintain his output, 4th in the league in disposals from that position is a massive effort, cheap stats or not.

One is officially a decorated AA and is a pivotal component to a team that finished top of the table. Borderline A-grader.

The other is just an average workmanlike type named Brady Rawlings. Good honest player, who had a terrific season but not better than HOB.

Everyone's just wild about Harry. :p

The average workmanlike type has won two best and fairests, more decorated then the one time All Australian

I doubt Rawlings would yield a Top 6 B&F finish at Collingwood. It's all relative.

Rawlings is a good honest toiler, a back pocket plumber, get your boot on the ball, no finese type. The other has elite traits in spades.

rawlings is a solid back pocket plumber. A solid b grader, with no elite traits.
harry on the other hand is a bonafide a grader, explosive pace, an elite ability through traffic & an offensive weapon from the hb line.

i don't know if mick will ever try it, but he has the potential to be a gun midfielder in the mould of daniel kerr.

lmfao

If he played for Collingwood they'd be screaming, but he doesn't, didn't get in and c'est la vie. Unfortunately Rawlings will never be the human PR machine that O'Brien's management (and O'Brien himself to an extent) is.

In the years since Rawlings started I can think of only Buckley that would've prevented him winning a B&F at Collingwood - at some point.

Like what? Apart from the marketable one's?

In terms of actual traits, being quick, big and strong and able to consistently break the lines, and along with a 60 metre kick, can in one possession get the ball moving 80-90 metres.

I don't agree with The Panther that he does it enough to be considered a bonafide A-Grader, but the traits are certainly there.

He needs to improve as a defender, but he already has the athleticism to be a quality defender, and has shut down a number of quality players before. Actually I think his actual defending has gone down a bit this season, I always thought of him as a pretty good defender but this year perhaps due to his focus on attacking, it has become quite inconsistant.

If I had the choice between the two I'd pick Harry every time. I'm sure the folks at North are happy with Rawlings, but Collingwood holds it's players to a higher standard.

For a start, I doubt that Rawlings would have held a candle to dual All Australian, James Clement in this time.

This years AA team isnt based on past form, its based on this years form.

I'd take Rawlings, great defensive player and gets a lot of the pill himself. Harry is a good runner off half back but mostly just boots it long.

So high we've won two flags since you got your last. And we'd won two before that before your last one.

What an exacting standard.

Hahahahahahahahahaha this pole is laughable. Hahahahahahahaha. A more apt comparison would be Brady Rawlings vs Dane Swan. Wouldn't you agree?

O'Brien isn't fit to carry Rawlings bags.

28 disposals to 15 in a side surrounded by kids. People forget that this bloke used to beat Chris Judd regularly until Judd whined in the media and the AFL changed the rules. In fact the only player I would say that has had it over Brady over his entire career is Gary Ablett junior.

If there was ever a classic example that Collingwood sells newspapers, this is it. Brady needs grow some dreadlocks, get a B list celebrity girlfriend and improve his disposal count to 40 to be a chance next season. Either that, or get traded to Collingwood.

Rawlings: 28.3 disposals at 82.5% efficiency
O'Brien: 15.7 disposals at 73.7% efficiency.

Rawlings also heads O'Brien for rebounds, tackles, 1st possessions and contested possessions.

Every year or two the AA selectors make an absolute howler of a decision and in 2010 it was O'Brien ahead of Rawlings.

The side that North fielded in their last game was less than 50 days younger than the side Collingwood fielded last night.

North had some of their vital young players out - Adams, Hansen, Ziebell, Anthony, etc. Replacing them were older players who otherwise would not have made the 22 - Jones, Harding, Edwards, etc. Our average age was therefore inflated.

Collingwood, however, were missing older players like Prestigiacomo and Davis, spaces which were given to younger players (Nathan Brown, for instance). Your average age was therefore deflated.

And yet ours was still younger. What does that tell you?

You could have swapped rawlings with Enright, Frawley or O'brien.

Get over it. It didn't happen, you sound like St Kilda having a cry about Hayes.

I respect the other comments about the actual comparison, but get over the AA. It's a toss anyway, judged by an abundance of tossers and a couple of people who know their shit.

I think any club would love each of these players in their team. Fortunately, Collingwood needs a player like Harry who can run out of the backline with confidence and speed. And what club wouldn't want Rawlings with his ability to go both ways 100%?

They are both fantastic players, if I could give a vote to each I would.

Liam Anthony is 23. He is hardly young.
Adams is 22.
Ditto for Hansen.

North only had 3 teenagers playing against North (Ziebell is the only one in this category.

Collingwood had 3 teenagers play last night.

Your team is minimally younger than ours.

You seem to be conflicted on this issue. That is actually the point the folks complaining about O'Briens inclusion are making. No one is blaming Collingwood.

Well it sounds like they are complaining that O'Brien got in ahead of Rawlings to me?
