Hartlett and Flint and Raso

Im very keen on seeing a few of your boys' development...mostly from the 2004 draft.

I saw a bit of Hartlett (I think it was this years preseason cup) and he looked the goods. Good size on him.

Raso is the very intriguing one. Im always interested in the boys that are picked up as a 'project player' or picked up late in one draft because they wouldve been picked up early in the following draft. Unfortunately, by reading your board it seems that he wont be getting much senior experience next yr.

And as for Russell, I saw a bit of him this year, and he really looks like he has the tools to be an excellent player. Was surprised that I read some of you guys bagging him. Couldnt understand why? Wouldve been a massive loss if we went to Port at the end of the yr.

He'd want to try and stay injury free in 2007. Obviously it's mostly beyond his control, but he might just be one of these real unlucky footballers that's just always injured.

That is correct. He is currently nursing an injured calf IIRC.

This is a major concern for the kid. Can't seem to get on the park without hurting himself.
Wouldn't count him in any of our backline plans until he has proven he is not fragile.
If this is how he breaks down in training and NAB games, how is he going to hold up to the rigours of senior football - sad to say it cause I think he had huge potential but IMO he's GAWN.

Hartlett is a much better footballer than Livo, so we can discount that straight away. It's just that his body keeps letting him down time and time again.

This kid can play, no worries about that. I just hope he can get his body right and play some senior footy in '07.

No worries? Plenty of worries about Hartlett. There's been more than a few questions raised about his kicking of late.

Livo was a good footballer HBF
We just never saw the best of him due to injury The fact he even managed to play as many games as he did was a credit to him. It must have been pretty hard to play if one of your legs became shorter than the other due to injury and you were playing in pain much of the time. I think his injuries cost us a good player. Livo could play, but his body let him down...time and time again

I am just hoping that Hartlett doesn't end up crocked as well. As I wrote fingers crossed

Feel sorry for the guy. I hate seeing our guys get injured, and I feel particularly badly for Hartlett because he tries hard, and if it continues this way unfortunately it looks like his career will be ruined by injuries .

All the best to him and hopefully he can have a great and more important, injury-free 2007 and make his way into the side.

we really don't know that just yet HBF. hartlett has done nothing to suggest he is good as livo. livo had at least clocked up a dozen or so senior games by the end of his second year.

No way is Hartlett as good as Livo. Livingstone was as highly rated as any player who has walked through the doors at Carlton - seriously, they had him pegged as the 'next Silvagni'. He showed a bit too early on, but just got crippled by injuries and missed the crucial stages of his development.

Hartlett is going down the same road, but his injuries seem to have been less destructive to his body, and I get the impression he has been around more and seen more football (even in the reserves). Anyway, here's hoping he pulls through, but for his sake you'd have to hope 2007 is a good year...

Adam Hartlett has returned to full training following tightness in his hamstring and is being closely monitored as he has had trouble with his hamstring over the past couple of seasons.

Look at myself.........you've gone from "I'm quite certain it isn't the Hammy" to having a hammy and a calf (which didn't seem to rate a mention).

It was your rapid dismissal of Kooley's concern regarding the hammy that has drawn this attention. You state something so categorically that it lends you credence, yet when it proves to be wrong you attack me, rather than cop it sweet.

I was relieved that you had put to rest fears that Hartlett had injured his hammy.
You did not acknowledge that he had had the hammy, recovered and then had the calf injury, it appeared that you were saying to Kooley that he had not re-injured the hammy but had suffered a calf injury.

As for attacking me, ending a response with fool can't be taken to many ways, unless, again, I'm having trouble reading your mind and you actually meant somthing else.

If you re-read these posts I'm sure you will see how easily it can be read that you don't think he has had a hammy injury, only to be reported today that thats what has kept him off the track.

For what it's worth I spoke with Hartlett on Friday at training / family day.

I can't begin to say how impressed I was with his attitude, one of the nicest guys you could possibly meet.

So much time for myself and another guy there with me, and we had a great chat about all things.

He knows exactly where he is at, he loves the club with an absolute passion, and I have no doubt that we can all rest easy knowing that here is someone who would walk over coals to better himself, the club, his team mates and us supporters.

He is on a one year contract, is back on top of his injuries, moved well at training and fingers crossed can see out the pre season and next season.

I asked him about a report that he had chronic tendinitis in his hamstring and from his response I believe not.

His verbal response was no and his body language was surprised at the report, not surprised that I asked.

I cannot speak highly enough of him.

For what its worth our team next season should start like this and for the following reasons:


FB - Russell Ohailpin Bower

HB - Walker Thornton Scotland

C- Simpson Blackwell Grigg

HF - Betts Kennedy Whitnall

FF - Houlihan Fevola Waite

RR - Ackland Stevens Murphy

Interchange -

Bannister Bentick Hampson Fisher

That was hard and of course apologies to Wiggins, Kouta, Gibbs, Flint, Hartlett and Lappin etc.......

I could pick this side again and be slightly different.

I think in defense Ohailpin and Thornton will hold the bigger bodies, Bower will add a tall rebounding defending backmen, while Scotland and Walker will use the ball well enough and run the lines out of defense. Russell will give enough but can be interchanged with Bannister.

Across the middle Simpson showed more than enough last season, while Blackers got in there hard, ran well enough and can use the ball ok, and after a another pre season should be up for round one after the NAB cup.

I have made a calculated risk here and picked Grigg. 190 cm player, who can run well and quick with a great left foot and is over 80 kgs may just be able to give us something early on. I place him in ahead of Gibbs purely as I felt I saw more strength in his lower body than Gibbs (particularly the calves) and I think with Gibbs once we get over the romance of who he is we maybe better served waiting three or four rounds to play him.

In the forward half Kennedy must be there, a towering player who can run well, mark well and kick. Whitnall must be there beside him to teach him and add another demension while Betts can rove off them.

Naturally our coleman medalist Fev will be there, Waite can help out beside him and after training I would whack Houla in up forward to help out, alot bigger and looks fitter.

Ackland will ruck and Murph and Stevens looked the good at training.

I will select Hampson as our back up, purely because our options at this stage a short, with Fisher to rotate up front, Bannister down back, and Bentick in the guts.

I just don't see a place for Kouta at the moment, Wiggins is behind in pre season and Mclaren could hardly move.

Lappin I moved out of a back pocket and then had a list of other options all over the park before I realised I hadn't put him back in. I then thought does that tell me something.

Scotland, Walker etc will rotate through the middle. Very Happy

Flint, I think will make it. IF Hartlett can stay injury, which is a big if, than he'll probably be safe as well. Raso is a hard one. We chose him as a development player, so he's effectively only had one year on the list. He's still only 19, and I don't think the club is expecting much of him in 2007. 2008 he'll probably have to show a fair bit if he is going to stay on the list. Too early to tell who will stay and go, but for Hartlett's sake, hopefully he can stay injury-free or he might struggle to make it past next season.
