Their is a rumour that Hawkins has real problems with his caricular bone.
What is the larest? Gerard Healey made a comment on radio to this effect.

Neil Balme has also now stated that he will not play early in the season contrary to what had been mentioned before from the club

Lets hope the club do not rush him until they are confident he is ready. Also I would prefer they tell us the truth re these injuries

He's a young lad still growing into his body. As we all know its a bloody big body too.

If we have to nurse him through 2009 so be it, but if it's still a problem in 12 months my finger will be hovering nervously near the panic button.

if this is true then this probably means that lonergan is going to get more game time.
This is a tragedy of the highest order.

It would NOT be tragedy--we did win endless games in 08 without Hawkins & with Lonergan. Besides Ottens can play forward & time for Simpson etc to have a crack. Lonergan can get better too-it was his first full season after life threatening injuries. In fact, both Simpsons may be a go.

I rate Scott very very highly, but I'm not sure what you're seeing in Dawson. He looks a long looooooooooooooooong way off from what i've seen of him.

It hasn't been affecting his ability to have copious amounts of amber fluid at the Portsea Pub!

Or the bull ring on Boxing Day as well. I thought i might waddle over to the Tomahawk and say hello and i asked him how the foot was? Well he gave me nothing nothing i say???

Is that an extra "caricular" bone?

Some guys at Hawthorn have had ongoing trouble with this too.:o

Yes. It would be navicular. No. Not good for a kid this age and his size.

i was down geelong on the 15th jan purchasing a membership and saw the boys on the way to the pools and what not for recovery. I seen the tomahawk walk by a few times in his training gear and he wasnt favouring any side of his body... If the club was still so concerned about his progress he would still be in a moonboot!
By the way, looks like he has slimmed down a little, he is looking a lot fitter but is still a massive unit!!!

he was hardly on his own in the GF. It was up to more senior blokes than him to pull their finger out.
Get off the kids back and give him a fair chance.

Ssh.....it was only the less experienced players who didn't do well in the GF.Nuffies like kicksome probably think the experienced players were close to B.O.G and none of them should be blamed.

geez looks like i have a few friends in here.
I'm just saying that lonergan is not the answer, we will not win a grand final with this guy as our full forward. Give him all the game time in the world hes just not going to improve greatly. He's more of an athlete than a footballer.

At least hawkins looks like he could grab a game by the throat and crunch a pack, strike a bit of fear into the defenders. Lonergan will not do this, i will put my house on it.

If moons is having a shit day we need someone else to step up, and once again; loners just wont do that.

Was having goal kicking practice prior to yesterday's main training so it's not as if his leg's about to drop off.

Might be more of a case that he plays the last couple of NAB Cup / praccy matches to get some match fitness up.

I think it's more of a precautionary thing. Last year he started alright before having foot problems mid to late year. I think the club are hoping that he'll start slower and be cherry ripe by the business end of the year.

Dont worry I agree with you. Theres a group of supporters on here that just believe everything is all fine and dandy, when its not. They dont like to see faults in the team. Lonergon has the potential to be a decent player, but is not any kind of answer to our forwardline problems.

On another note, is anyone else worried that Hawkins may be a flop and we'l be in trouble? As in a Brett Spinks flop?? Well, maybe not THAT bad...

Injury or no injury, he isnt going to burst onto the scene this year anyway. 14 games and 30 goals from the big lad this year. 2010 is Hawkins year. I said it when he came to the club and im hoping its still true!

I tend to agree with you re Hawkins. If Balme is suggesting he's got a dodgy Navicular then the big bastard will probably do very little this year.

As for Lonergan I think this is the make or break year as far as being a forward goes. He has to show something against the good defenders and although he's a good kick and a decent mark I just don't think he's physically intimidating enough to be a permanent big forward. However there is always hope.

I think you are selling Lonergan a little short here.
Last year he played 16 games for 36 goals which is a fair return for a player who has played 42 games all up and has missed 2 years of football.
Hawkins played 10 games for 13 goals and I mention this because the argument will be that it is pretty easy to kick goals in a winning team
If Lonergan can keep improving I think he can be an important member of the team and theres certainly nothing wrong with having 3 or 4 forwards fighting for the same position

If alme is suggesting he's got a dodgy Navicular

I don't think he's saying that at all. He's really just being (appropriately) cautious about committing to when Hawkins will play.

This season should be about easing him in gradually and having him right come finals time. We don't want a repeat of '08 (in more ways than one).

People should hold off on pushing the panic button here.

Please be another dumb rumour

Yeah I hope so, I don't even go for Geelong but it would be great to see him on the field. Improving, kicking goals and being ur traditional full forward.

A mate of mine who goes for Geelong once said Hawkins could be the next Plugger:o
