Dowler - Yes.
Muston - Yes.
Morton - Maybe.
Moss - No.
Ladson - No.

They would all just be sweeteners on top of whatever else they offered.

I'd be wary of taking anything from the Hawks, you could argue it's really where The Eyebrow acquired his dark administrative arts from his time as a player there:mad:

But if we had to deal, let it be the pick they get from GC for Brown. Am I correct in saying that we can warehouse it for 5 years and use it when the draft is uncompromised?

I'm surprised all the numpties that want another ruckman on our list next year aren't suggesting that we trade Taz for Bailey?

Anyway, what about Dowler, Ladson or Morton? Garry Moss would be handy for depth too but being a rookie they can't trade him yeah?

Rookies are tradable during the compromised years, however if you trade a rookie in they must be primarily listed ala. Mumford last year.

Only played 5 games this year to take his tally to 13 over 6 seasons and not sure that he's entirely what we need.

Others would be better for us IMO i.e. Ladson, Morton and perhaps Dowler or Moss.

This is no doubt because his 1st 3-4 years were hampered by cruel debilitating long-term injuries.

In the games he's played he's proven to be good.

He will take that same stability in his personal life across to his new club, and will try to secure the best deal for Fremantle.

People said the same about Josh Carr but it's not like Chris will be sitting in on trade week.

If team X are offering a $650,000 2 year deal and will only part with a 3rd rounder and club Y are offering Tarrant a $100,000 one year deal but will part with pick 20-something I'm pretty confident which club he'll go with.

I'm a fan of Dowler, always have been. I wouldn't mind that trade because Dowler's still young enough and is fairly versatile. He'd fit into the team very nicely I think.

The difference is Tarrant has said he will retire if a suitable trade cannot be organised. He doesn't want us to get screwed it seems.

I think what Taz is doing is of better benefit to the club in the long run.

Lets say he stays one more year, we play finals again but no premiership. Taz retires. We are left with nothing.

On the flip side, he works with the club to get good trade value in (a pick and a player) that gives us hopefully two 5+ year players and he plays 1-2 seasons with his new club.

Although I like Taz in our side I think the club is better off with this outcome. Hopefully we get good value.

:thumbsu: Yep, agree totally. Probably in the long term it is better for the club that he moves East :(. Allows us to experiment and blood new KPP's and better manage the changing of the guard in the backline, particularly as we'll still have 3 backs over 29 y/o.

Not that I disagree, but if this was the thinking then we should have traded him last year when he had more currency and it looked like we were miles away from doing what we did this year.

Not really. He was an absolutely crucial cog in the team that came out and blitzed the comp early thus allowing us to limp into the finals. I'm not sure you can underestimate how much belief and camaraderie that built.

Last year Harves would have had a look at how many immature bodies we were going to have to field and underlined Tarrant as essential.

He would still be in that category if he wasn't being dragged back to Melbourne by the testes.

Long term you're right assuming the player we draft/trade for Tarrant is still in the system and contributing when Taz retires. But I think you're off the mark in regards too 2011.

Losing Tarrant clearly weakens our best side, which up until he and Barlow got injured was sitting in the top 4. With Ablett going to GC atleast one of the other top 4 sides will be weaker in 2011.

Does Losing Tarrant mean we can't play in a Grand Final in 2011? Obviously not, but it makes it less likely.

I reckon you're dreaming that we'll get a good player AND an early pick. Pick 25-40 OR a player of similar worth is what we'll get. Anything more a bonus, any less and it's a loss and the club should consider letting Taz enter the PSD/retire because we'll be improving another side without adequate compensation.

With Tarrant going and Grover and McPharlin near the end we need a tall defender too, so lets say Darren Glass requested a trade. He's a key defender and the same age as Taz. Would we give up our first pick PLUS someone in our best 22 for him? I don't think so.

I hope you're right but I can see a lot of outrage during trade week because many people seem to be setting the bar too high.

Better? Its all in the photographer.

I think Tarrant is a much better player that Darren Glass is at this stage, in fact it's no comparison. Tarrant was better than him last year and he was better than him this year.

I guess when I say a player and a pick it may be that we don't get offered a high enough pick, so it may be a lower pick and a player, I never stated it would be a first pick. There are plenty of players around the league who don't 'fit in' to their current team and are looking for a change to get the best out of themselves.

I don't chime in often, but I think we can get a bit better then a pick between 25-40 in a watered down draft. Only last year, Brisbane traded the house for Fevola who is just one year younger then Taz. It's not like Taz has had career threatening injuries and you know he is a professional. I don't think there are many guy fitter then him. Think hes got more then two years left in him personally. Its more about his attitude

I've no doubt that some people on all sides have suggested insane trades. For instance there is no way Hawthorn would trade Lewis for Tarrant. I'd personally be very surprised if you got pick 18/19. The thing is, Hawthorn and Carlton and others, no one is going to be that bothered if the deal doesn't get done. It's more a situation where we'd list him if we could without losing anything, but if we can't, then oh well.

If you asked for Dowler, you get it done for sure. Morton - probably, we haven't been able to find much use for him this year. He might well benefit from a change of clubs. Bateman is hard to say. He is definitely on the decline, but I suspect he's worth more to us than you, making that trade unlikely. Hawthorn have an excess of one-paced inside mids. We traded off Kennedy for not very much last year, and he has flourished at the Swans. A Lewis or even a Sewell might possibly be on the table, but Tarrant would just not offer us enough value for either of them.

I have no idea what Freo are hoping for out of this. Barry Hall might be comparable - in terms of age and position, and ability, and that he won't play for the current club again regardless of the outcome. Although Hall is a better player than Tarrant.

Considered like that - don't expect much. I can tell you this - no one at Hawthorn is really going to care much if we don't get him. Some will even say that we shouldn't be looking at him at all, at any price. If another club are willing to really make a play for him, I doubt we'll be able to compete.

Is Clarkson out of contract in 2011? If he is, then he will need to improve on the last 2 seasons to get another contract. Same goes for Ratten at Carlton. Both sides have a weakness in their back line that Tarrant could plug.

pfft whats hawthorns weakness right now.
Defense.
There forward line is great.
Midfield pretty good
Defense crap.

Fix defense an they are back up the top again, they will be desperate to grab a guy like taz, we need to push for best deal possible.
