if you don't take a stand Franklin will be screwed over next yr.Whats it gonna take Buddy carried off on a stretcher with a neck brace a broken leg and arm for them to take notice.Christ something must be done!!!!:thumbsd::mad:

Jeff wants to make Hawks the number 1 team in the competition. Well do something now Jeffery, Eddie would never have taken this shit. It is all good for Jeff to come out and apologise to the members and supporters of our great club during some crappy performances, but now the ball is in his court, take that ball and take it to court the worst decision ever, must be overruled

Yes and also seems like we did not challenge this properly - get it right at appeal !!

The case that Cousins didn't have the ball was flimsy - on replays you can see he juggles the ball in the left hand once Rioli falls off his attempted tackle, but Cousins regains control before Franklin bumps him.

A better argument may have been that Frankling was unable to make a front-on tackle due to his surgically repaired shoulder, or that Cousins contributed to the contact with Franklin due to changing direction suddenly.

Hope the appeal wins. I need Buddy for my DT GF this week. There's $1000 on the line!

The tribunal made the right decision to the letter of the law but

1) The rule is an ass.

Any law that penalises a player for making "reasonable" contact (as described by the tribunal) via a legal bump is just wrong. a player should not have to think twice about making a legal and reasonable bump.

2) Franklin's defense was shit

They relied on proving that Cousins caused the contact? How about relying on the fact that Cousins didnt have the ball (he was fumbling it), so therefroe, Buddy's only option was to bump. He couldnt tackle as that would be holding the man.

Also, as different from the Maxwell case, Buddy didn't run past the ball to tale out the player. The ball was sort of in Cousins hands (he was fumbling it). His ONLY option under the rules of the game was to bump.

They need to sort this out else the game will turn to shit. Already the Pickett shirtfront is gone and that is sad. What next? Outlaw a tackle?

.

Our club has several legal eagles. I'm wondering if they will take it to the courts of law?

No point.

The judiciary will only become involved if it is patently clear that Bud Regal has been denied natural justice by the system under which he's been rubbed out.

The purpose of the current AFL system is to permit clubs to appeal the suspensions handed out by the MRP in two layers - the first layer is the Tribunal and the second layer is the appeals process from the Tribunal.

The courts will not interfere because of the manner in which the current AFL system operates.

About right, actually. The Hawthorn defence wasn't very strong and, if the tweets from that Sport 927 journo could be believed, wasn't presented very well.

I tend to recall that Fremantle argued that Ballantyne didn't have the opportunity to tackle when he was rubbed out for a fortnight for a similar offence and the Tribunal said that he did have the opportunity to tackle. I wonder if that influenced the manner in which Hawthorn approached tonight's hearing, notwithstanding the apparent dictum that precedent plays no part in the Tribunal's decision-making process.

It was worth a try, a case of perhaps having him play to help the team into the finals versus being spectators in September.

Could have been worse ... remember Phil Carmen ... suspended for 2 games in the 1977 preliminary final ... turned out he missed 2 grand finals after the first grand final was a draw.

Is it a bit early to play the Barry Hall / Andrew Dunkley card? A pity the Hawks are not the AFL's love child like you know who ... ^^

I am just another fan that is shattered by what our game is becoming. Andrew demetriou is worried about soccer and other sports taking something away from our great game, but its the changing our the game that is doing the most damage. People interstate call our game GAYFL cos thats the way its heading. The people that run the AFL should b ashamed with what they have contributed to the sport over the past 10 years. The great tradition in our country in sports especially is from the history and its not just a different era of player, but a different game now. The game was so much better in the waveley days, Modra V Dunstall and it was strongest man wins one on one, none of this hand in the back crap. What has our game become?

The buddy bump should never have even been mentioned of being reviewed rather than any further and 2 weeks... I think more people should stand up and almost make a stand so this rule can change. Imagine if AFLPA got together and said they wouldnt play if buddy wasnt let off. I think that would b great! Unlikely to happen....

The Hawks did themselves no favours by the way they defended Franklin tonight.

The logical defence would have been that Franklin was going to tackle him, but when the ball bobbled in Cousins hands, Franklin decided to bump instead because he thought Cousins might lose control of the ball.

When Cousins regained control of the ball, Franklin would have been committed to the bump and a tackle wasn't reasonable in the circumstances.

After following the case closely on the radio, I'm more upset with the shoddy nature of Franklin's defence than the eventual result.

They can't go changing their story at the appeal and have virtually no hope of overturning this decision.

Mark Evans and the legal team have let the Hawthorn Football Club down big time tonight and they shouldn't be allowed to escape scrutiny.

A very unprofessional and disappointing performance all round.

Re: Appeal likely!!!

if the hawks attempt to play him and the game is called off the bombers will happily settle on a draw and split the 4pts!

It's going to be VERY hard to write a funny Bartos Report after the anger I've been feeling since it was announced he would be charged.

I actually have tribunal member Wayne "Moose" Henwoods mobile number

Will only post if Rusty says I can :D

Are you out there 'Crannypete' ?

reasonable assessment i'd say. the defence they prepared was flimsy at best and virtually gave them no chance - if this was the best they could come up with then they might as well have just copped the 1 week and hoped his teammates could win without him.

however i do suspect there would have been even greater supporter outrage if they didn't battle the decision.

If Buddy is so important why didn't they assemble a better defence?

he a huge player its like they didn't care. Everybody loses out of this nobody WINS.footy loses the player loses everybody does.I can't see ho wthis helps anybody.

The Hawks must take this further.

Does anyone recall what took place when Sydney got a court injunction over a player who was suspended and then allowed to play......am I right on this?

If anyone could shed more light that would be appreciated. If that's what happended, the Hawks should do exactly the same.

Dunkley for the GF vs Kangaroos. Didn't matter in the end.

The AFL have no idea on what they want to enforce.

In under 9 football you are NOT allowed to Tackle but you can bump..

U9 Tackling/Bumping
Players cannot tackle an opponent, hold an opponent, push an opponent in the side, knock or take
the ball out of an opponent’s hands. A restrained bump in which the force of the contact is insufficient to knock the opposing player over is permitted. If a player is fairly bumped the ball must
be disposed of within a reasonable time by hand or foot.

Now i understand that you cannot bump a player to the ground, but the AFL rules for junior U9 football do not allow a tackle but bumping is ok.

So we are telling our first year kids you can't tackle, but bumping is ok, yet at AFL standard it would seem that you can tackle and not bump, no wonder kids are confused and no wonder local footy is a much better game to watch!
And finally no wonder more kids want to play soccer.....

RIP Australian Rules Football, it was great while it lasted!

BRING BACK THE BIFF!!!

i'd like to think the hawthorn fc is better than that the mob at sydney who in my opinion brought the sport into disrepute by getting an injunction to allow dunkley to play.

keep your dignity hawthorn and don't do what sydney did and keep your respect in the football world.

i'm not a fan of the ruling, i'm not a fan of many of the new rules to be honest but unfortunately you need to abide by them.

andrew demetriou's administration should be remembered as the reign of ridiculous rule changes.
