I absolutely admire Hirdy and have the utmost respect for him as a player. But I'd have to agree that he should give it away at seasons end, but make sure hes fit for the last game. He's given us so much over the years, but hes now 33 and his body is failing on a regular basis.
As much as he doesn't want to leave the club while we are struggling, I think hes given his all, and I wont respect him any less for leaving the game.

Understand that he does not want to leave the club when the wheels are falling off however I agree his body is telling him it's time. Maybe he should be thinking about next year in terms of how he could contribute to the rebuilding in a off feild role. I'm sure there are plenty of young players (even more after the draft) at Essendon that could learn so much from just having him there!!

clearly not our year is it. would have been good just to see him play out they year and a have a few good games. Hopefully he can play the last 6 games of the year and gets a good send off. I know its sounds strange but he should take it easier on the training track, but from all reports he has always been to proud to do that even when injured. I think someone should tell him that he has done enough.

This could be the end for good old Jim bob Sh*t The bombers need some luck and there just not getting any. Dustins out to isnt he???

Im really beginning to think our position on the ladder wont affect Hirdy's decision at years end. His mindset is not dissimilar to Lloyds in that if he feels he still has something to offer the game, he'll go on.
Im hoping he goes on, but in saying that...would prefer he sit the rest of the season out n get himself right for next year. Despite his mental toughness, doubt any player could deal with the constant frustration of braking down every 2-3 weeks n having the football world watch him on the boundary line, then be scrutinised by the media week in week out as to what he might be thinking. Ill be waiting with eagerness for his next articles in the Herald-Sun n bombers website
