How impressive are Collingwood?

I am under no illusions where we are at, not expecting top 4 this year.. Would be a pleasant surprise if it occurred..

But..

Reid hasn't played a game.

2 top 10 picks yet to debut

Seedsman returns and his run and foot skills make us better out if defence.

Cloke played his first game of the season.

Overrated/Underrated couldn't care less..

Heading in the right direction and will only improve.. That's what I care about.

In all seriousness, we're in a better position than I thought. I thought we could be a chance to miss finals, and expected to have a bad start to the season and play catch up in the second half. I don't think we've played well recently, but still notching up the wins. Need to work on our clearance rates and deplorable delivery into the forwards.

Currently tracking marginally better than I had us pegged for early on.

A few senior players delivering below expected output, but balanced by some promising youngsters who have made the most of their opportunities.

I don't ever expect Bucks to be any sort of coaching messiah. He won't be the most inspirational communicator or the nurturing/cuddly get-the-best-from-anyone type. What he will be is the hardest working, best prepared and single minded professional in the building (followed closely by the captain). I'm very comfortable with someone of that ilk at the helm.

I admit to writing them off before the start of the season, but they have been impressive. A lot of good teams this year so they may struggle to get top 4, but can't be written off as a flag chance for the next couple of years at least.

My concern come finals would be the relative dysfunction of the tall forwards compared to the other top teams. But if Cloke and White get their act together, with Ben Reid playing at least some time up forward, then they'll give most teams a fright.

Collingwood should be aiming for a home final in week 1 and to get a win first up. That would be considered a pass mark for 2014.

They will be aiming for a top four and hoping for a QF win, straight into the prelims. From there anything can happen.

Port and GC are inexperienced, if they happen to meet them in a final they might rate themselves a chance if they have to travel in finals in week 1. Failing that its a double chance.

Fifth will be considered a fail. Home final is an unsatisfactory consolation, even with a win there would likely be travel in week 2.

Barely got out of second gear and still demolished the Saints. One of the most impressive performances I've seen in a long time. It was like watching boys play against men at times.

Collingwood look the real deal for me. They'll be hard to keep out of the top four (and hence, the flag race) come the end of the season.

Biggest story of the round, is the arrival of Collingwood as a legitimate flag threat imo.
Deflection?

Really? I would think that finishing 5th or thereabouts would've been where they were expected to finish. Many even predicted that the Pies would go threw a mini rebuild and finish in the lower part of the top eight. You've done well to this point and if you make it past the first week of the finals then that is surely a pass for 2014 and you would've gone one better then last year.

Given Pies have finished top four in five of the past seven years, why should we be aiming for and expecting anything less?

I would much rather face Sydney than Hawthorn.

We have AAs on every line, we were smashed by injuries last year, not sure who was predicting us to miss finals etc etc, I've always said anything less than top 4 is a fail for this group.

David King reckons we'll win the flag fwiw.

We finished 6th last year (eightth after getting knocked out of the finals in the first week). Fifth is only moving up one notch. Externally nobody at the club rated us (nothing new there) but internally I'm sure top four would have been the goal this year.

And from where we sit not, almost midseason, I'd definitely call fifth a fail. Not a disaster, but a fail.

The Pies ARE going through a rebuild.

The difference is that people external to the club rattle off names - Daisy, H.Shaw, Didak, Jolly, Johnson, Krak all struck off....so they will struggle

Internally it was known that those names hadn't really delivered much anyway

Pies backed themselves in, and it is paying off...love how the boys all love playing for the Coach

Odd, you act like they were somewhat deserved.

I will not fear Collingwood so long as they continue to run with a midfield that struggles to hit a target against the good sides, a backline that struggles immensely against any player sub 190cm and a forwardline with only two genuine outlets. Collingwood will make the 8 but talk of a prelim is fanciful.

Sounds like we're a big chance when Ben Reid comes back then. He ticks most of those boxes.

So, you rate your opinion higher than David Kings? Forgive me for not taking you seriously, anyone would think we've been close to full strength the last few times we've played you guys, and of course the umpires were to blame when we ended your 2012 season.

I think David King is wrong, yes. Many other people as or more knowledgeable about the game than King haven't predicted Collingwood success. His opinion is not the only one that matters. Also, you didn't end our 2012 season. Collingwood were beaten three times fairly comfortably.

2011, my bad.
