I wonder if he was coming into the system now whether he would have been given a shot in there.
Back in the 2000s, Crips would have been a forward.

Unlikely, unless he put up some dominant numbers as an inside mid in his U18 year. The lack of explosive leg speed probably hold him back. I think you just hit the same brick wall we hit with Fogarty.

However, the one position I could see him being pushed into - especially if he had a middling start as a key forward - is half back/third defensive tall.

Bingo.

Fans yelling racist abuse at players in the stands is a lifetime ban.
But a player leads to a wet lettuce leaf sanction and an awkward 1v1 with the victim.
Well I guess must have missed that. Could you post footage or even the story of Tex "yelling racist abuse at players in the stands". I can't remember that happening. Are you sure you're not smothering this memory with mayonnaise to suit your virtue signalling agenda?

Are you trying to be deliberately obtuse?

Fans have been suspended for shouting racist abuse at players, from sitting in the stands.

Tex, instead, copped a wet lettuce for being 5m away from a player on field (while not even playing) and hurling racial insults his way.

There’s nothing “virtue signaling” about stating facts.

That said, people deserve the opportunity to grow and change. The issue people have, which seems very pertinent in the AFL right now, is that the AFL doesn’t punish properly incidents when they originally happen - making it hard for fans to properly forgive if they can’t see proper punishments doled out.

Kicked two goals but part of the reason Adelaide didn't do so well is because he didn't play anywhere near his best, which is very good. You could argue he was one of the players that went missing, especially given he was captain.
Is this you saying Adelaide was the better team and Richmond only won because we didn't show up?

He's a great natural footballer

Moves like a midfielder

Came here to post exactly this. His durability is pretty impressive too. Still working it even at this late stage of his career.

Don’t know the guy personally but he seems like your typical local footy everyman.

Didnt he threaten to take a local burger joint to court for calling a burger the Big Texan? Decent footballer but a bit dimwitted and managed to somehow make himself the victim post his racial slur.

Sorry, what did he do?

Made a racist remark to another person when referring to Robbie Young, a trainer overheard and called him out

Never said a word to Young, which is why the comparisons to fans yelling abuse at players doesn't make sense

Again I'm not defending what he did, if he copped more weeks, or ended his career, I wouldn't have complained - but it's important that people have facts correct

He didn't hurl any abuse at any player. It was a private conversation with another person. An Adelaide official heard it as he was near Tex and then dobbed him in to the club, who then went to the AFL about it.
It would be like if a couple of players were in the gym and one of them was talking about a player at another club and one of them called him a f*g, and an official heard it and dobbed him in.
Tex got put on blast over something he said to someone in a private conversation. He got suspended, he got fined, he was nationally embarrassed, had to take remedial courses, had to do the apology tour, had to talk to the player who never heard it.
I think he paid a price for what he did.
Trying to compare it to someone yelling it out to a player on the field is just ridiculous.

Even the most ardent Crows wouldn't call Tex a gentleman and a scholar.
He is a lovable rouge, he is a good player and a good team man.

Another thing that goes in his favour is that when GWS was shopping for their players they offered Tex a truckload to leave the Crows. Everyone thought he was going to go but he didn't. It was old mate Phil Davis who took the coin and ran at the end, which shocked everyone.

Great player but the racism stuff is front and centre for me.

Hiring the guy who did the ISIS hostage videos to film his “apology” and getting the victim to console him on camera is the weirdest on-camera AFL moment since Kirky’s “thanks Basil…”

Been cheering Tex and the Adelaide forward line on this year.

Cornes said they wouldn’t work and Tex would fall out of the 23.

Crows are 5th and going well, 1st for most points scored, Tex 12th in goalkicking.

Great to see someone’s idiotic call based on what he hopes happen based on a grudge be totally wrong. Unprofessional media performance by Kane.

Yeah reckon you were absolutely a better team during the H&A. Thrashed us. By the time of the grand final we had improved a lot so even if the crows did show up I would still be confident.

You got to play the game on your home ground in front of a majority Richmond crowd and your players got to sleep at home all week. This was the key difference, alongside Crows not showing up.
