I watched his press conference and a journalist asked him if he thinks he's the right man for the job. Did you expect Simpson to reply with no?
Digging his heels in is probably a smart way to force a decent settlement from the club.
As long as he damn well wants.

The bloke is injured all the time because he's lazy and doesn't put in the hard yards and set standards for himself because he knows he's an automatic selection when fit. The footage I saw of him earlier in the year going through some tests was glaring. Looked like a 130kg suburban ruck. Has anyone at the club held him accountable for anything he does or because he's NicNat they don't bother. He is a money making machine that's all that matters. Seems like this is the problem but they won't admit it.
I never said he needed to quit.

Well you can’t polish a turd so why not be up front?
Recent results show he isn’t the right man for the job and that needs to be addressed. Not with bravado either.

In those smashings we also lost to decent sides like hawthorn and Collingwood who both won the flag around those years. We were absolute dogshit though. Weird how quickly we turned it around in 2013. A new voice helped , exactly what west coast need.
The damage has already been done with their list management, and re-signing older injury prone guys to multi year contracts in the hope they become less injury prone the further they get into their 30s.
The injuries are not just bad luck, it’s the fact players are kept who’ve barely played since 2021.
Combine that with the least promising crop of youngest coming through since, maybe Carlton 2002 (though this could actually be worse). The older guys have checked out and the bottom has fallen out of the place.
Anyone coaching now would be cannon fodder, i mean they were praised in their 50-60 point losses to Essendon and Pies, that is their ceiling now.
Let that sink in, they are currently so bad getting within 10 goals of literally any team is considered a positive.
I think they need a general reset of the clubs football department on and off field. They have escaped the scrutiny of other sides in their position would cop due to a friendly WA media and their super strong financial position. But make no mistake, even a full strength west coast side wouldn’t win more than 4-5 games.
It’s going to take a long time and a lot of good decisions to fix.

Did the rebuild start in 2021 or 2022? if it started in 2022, you claimed your back in finals in 2 years. So By 2024 then?

Would still be a scapegoat in my mind for more cancerous elements around the club, but it would have to be a strong possibility now.
West Coast have always paid "Superann" to its star players, they typically get 1-2 years when they are well and truly done. Outsiders think its just poor player management but its a strategy to keep good players from leaving in their prime. We have only ever lost one Good player in their prime - Judd and maybe Gehrig ( He was Cooked by then end at WC ) so keeping players like Kennedy and Nic Nat over their careers has worked long term.
Gaff, Sheed, Darling, Witherden has to be the most uninspiring quartet of players in the comp. It was hilarious watching the Eagles move the ball forwards yesterday, Gaff got it with Sheed breaking away and TKelly available for a handball and Gaff literally turned and kicked it 30 meters backwards.
I’d bring in ANYONE to replace Gaff at this point. but they only really have Zane Trew.
Point being is a new coach isn’t going to fix this anytime soon. Sydney doing circle work with their 45 degrees kicks to a running player without breaking stride should not be something they can do outside of a training drill. That’s not “tactics”, that’s players caring. Sure they might hate the coach, but the players shouldn’t phone it in like that. Give maximum effort regardless.
