Just a question if you go to many Games in which your team is not playing, and how one-eyed you are.

I only go to Geelong games. All the Melbourne ones, and I catch the train to Kardinia Park (or Skilled now?) about 5 times a year to watch them play in Geelong. In fact, I cant remember ever attending a game in which Geelong did not play (but I have gone to a State of Origin match at the 'G once).

But dont get me wrong - I love watching all the footy games. If there is an AFL game on the telly, I'll watch it - it does not matter who it is that is playing - as long as it is a good match. Sometimes, even if both mobs arent mine, I still can get emotionaly involved and, say, barrack for the team I tipped.

But watching games on TV and attending them are different things. I just cant imagine it being the same attending an AFL match when Geelong is not playing (because I have never before). When my team is playing I am part of the game - I cheer when a goal is kicked and dont make a sound when a score is kicked against us. If my team was not playing, I'd watch it with interest, but I wouldnt be a PART of the game - my emotions wouldn't ride on it. It just wouldnt be the same sitting in a big crowd without a team to passionately support.

I'm sure many of you have got to games in which your side is not playing - and tell me, its different, hey? You dont cheer when either side scores, its just not the same!!!

As I said before, I love watching all teams play on the telly, but when I go to the Footy, I dont know how it would feel if I attended a match not envolving MY team.

So I pose this question. Also, I'd like to know if Adelaide fans attend Port games and vice-verca? The same for the 2 WA sides?

I'm an Essendon supporter living in Sydney, and the Bombers only play up here once a year. Not enough for a bloke like me who needs a regular football fix - I go to all the games in Sydney (I've only missed 1 game in Sydney since 1995) and make a few Victorian trips a year when I'll see the Bombers play and occasionally take in another game as well.
So I see more of the Swans than I do of the Bombers. I've developed a soft spot for the Swans, but my heart will always be black and red.

I'll probably see 3-5 Port games this year (one so far) because a mate is a Footy Park member and I like the view from high up in the grandstand. And of course, I also delight in watching a team of Port Power's standard and skill perform live. :)

next game you go to let me know and we'll organise to meet up and have a beer or something :)

I've already been to a few this year, and I'm going to the Essendon/Carlton clash next Friday night. Neutral games can be good to watch, but they can also be the most boring affairs ever.

I'd say I'll end up going to about 10 neutral games throughout this year, as well as every Hawthorn game in Melbourne.

The Hitman

For me it was something like 20 non-Demons games last year. I think the tally is on 3 at the moment for 2002.

I'll try to get to most of the good Friday night matches along with all Demons matches in Victoria.

None!

I can't watch games where Melbourne are not playing. On TV I can, but not at the actualy ground. I dunno why, it just doesn't do anything for me unless it's Melbourne!

well... I live in Sydney so I don't get to see many other games. I've only been to a handful of non-swans games so far:

2000? North v Geelong @ SCG
2001 - North v Geelong @ Colonial
1999? - St Kilda v Carlton @ MCG - the game where Nicky Winmar went feral.
2001 - Essendon v Richmond @ MCG, 1st week finals - Lloyd kicked his 100th.

I try to see another game if I'm in melbourne for an away game, but it's not always convenient. Anything to distract me from my dismal melbourne record.. 1.5 wins from 10 games attended! better in geelong though, 2/3.

This year I have gone to 5 games!

Round 1 - Bulldogs V Adelaide
Round 1 - Hawthorn V Melbourne
Round 2 - Bulldogs V Kangaroos
Round 4 - Bulldogs V Brisbane
Round 5 - Bulldogs V Melbourne

I might usually go to 3 or 4 non Bulldogs games a year!
It deppends what teams are playing ... Because I might go to the rugby about 5, 6 7 times a year!

I go to a few camries games a year.

I'm a guy like Ant's mate, sometimes take a camry fan, or if the camries are playing a side that a friend supports I'll take them along.

Haven't been to any yet this year though, last on was ADelaide v Carlton last year.

6 games this year

Rd 1 Richmond v Collingwood
Rd 1 Essendon v Geelong (so boring!!!)
Rd 2 Collingwood v West Coast
Rd 3 Carlton v Collingwood
Rd 4 Collingwood v Hawthorn
Rd 5 Collingwood v Essendon

As a Lions Supporter living in Brisbane I obviously attend every game at the Gabba - haven't missed a single game in the last 5 years including Ansett(Wizard) cup games, practice inter and intra club games. So not a lot of choice here about watching other teams.

I do however go te Melbourne a couple of times a year and get in as many games as I can when down there. The Saints have a soft spot in my heart so I try and see them but I also enjoy seeing a game where I don't barrack for either team. You can appreciate the game more without the pressure!! And soak up the atmosphere.

I'd love to watch visiting sides come to Perth, only problem is I would never go to an Eagles game as long as my bum points south!

5-6 non Geelong games during the regular season.

I also go to every final played at the 'G, including the big one. I've been lucky enough to attend 11 of the past 13 GF's (well, I probably would have been better off missing four of them!).

Flat out refuse to go to cows games unless Port are playing. In the past would occasionally go but would end up barracking for the interstate team and fighting with the cows supporters (who generally didn't know anything about their players/team not to mention anything about footballl or the opposition), so annoying. So in adelaide that means can't see any neutral games. When in melbourne will occasionally go and see another game. When interstate might go watch a WAFL or QAFL game or any local match for that matter. Use to go watch two Melbourne teams play when the Power first came in, but don't so much these days.

totally the same with me though i used to go to quiet a few Bulldogs game when i was yonger but it must be like 5 years since i've been to one that isn't agiast Richmond.

top thread.

i have always loved to go to neutral games, either because of friends, or a particular team is having a good year, or its finals time, etc etc. i plan to see many neutral games this year, but in reality won't go to as many as i would like.

being walking distance to colonial (mcg too i guess), i like saturday night games at collo stadium. i also like to be nostalgic and get to OO or SS if i can. my tally so far this year is 2:

round 4. doggies v lions
round 6. roos v hawks

and looking ahead a few weeks, i will probably go to

round 8. pies v lions
round 11. demons v pies
round 12. demons v crows

apart from essendon finals, no doubt my best day of footy was the first saturday of the finals in 94 (i think) seeing the roos and hawks draw at waverley (carey cleaning up in extra time) then coming back to the G for big billy to slot one through against the doggies after the siren. it doesn't have to be essendon for me to get passionate.
