So 30 players before we play in NZ and then the three 20/20 matches whilst 16 players in India.

Incredible.

We could have 40 players by the end of the summer.

At least we have a form guide for the upcoming T20s against SL with the BBL having just finished, but the timing of the Matadors compared with ODIs is a bit of a head scratcher.

Originally it was done to prepare for the World Cup, then NSW started winning and it has remained the stupid way it is...

Kind of kills the idea of an anti-Vic selection bias, doesn't it? (especially if you count Hodge, McKay and David Hussey as well)

Not really, my gripe has always been they never get a chance. They get 1 off tests as a bowler on the Perth Highway or thrown into no3 on the sub continent when they have rarely if ever batted that high in first class cricket. Then get dropped next match, in ODIs their only hope is when half the side is rested so what hope do you have when playing with blokes who haven't even played for their state? This is usually after spending plenty of time carrying the drinks so you have to perform having not played for a while.

Then come the big tournaments or the chance to play weak opposition, back come the favourites. Or if a NSW batsman, you can fail 4-5 times in a row before you get dropped, but they will get another shot, once a Victorian gets dropped they are gone.

How much would Maxwell or White have liked a chance to play a home test series instead of as a bowler in India or a no3 batsman when he usually bats 6-7! Then when they do get a home series and average over 50, they get dropped anyway. Cameron White has improved his domestic performances out of sight the last 4-5 years but had 1 ODI game in that period? Finch was nearly written off, got in by a fluke because of an unexpected injury and made a decent couple of years out of it because he got a chance.

See what Handscomb did when given a chance, Stoinis today, Hastings and McKay were great in ODIs but never got another chance in tests. Imagine if Starc, Hazlewood, Johnson etc got dropped never to play again after a spanking on a road!

Hastings would've played in the ODIs if he wasn't injured
For me we have the best ODI attack in the world

Hastings, Hazlewood, Faulkner, Starc with Cummins, Zampa and Patto waiting in the wings. Plus Stanlake

Possible NEW players for the summer based on the T20 squad just announced:

Michael Klinger, Moises Henriques, Ashton Turner, Tim Paine (wk), Andrew Tye, Jhye Richardson.

Klinger, Richardson and Turner also in line for their first ever Australian appearance. If all three play they will take the total number of players currently in the domestic system who have represented Australia to 69.

So just about everyone has had a game especially spinners who amy have played 1 game for Australia in some sort of format.

lol.

To be honest there isn't much CA can do about the media and fan criticism (in many ways mostly warranted in this case) which is probably the biggest factor.

Underperforming or seemingly 'undeserving' national cricketers cop it far more than anyone else in Australian sports with the exception of our Olympic Swim team every four years and our 'star' tennis players.

I think you can throw in jockeys and AFL footballers to the list too!!

I was only young when it happened but I couldn't imagine the pain Kim Hughes went through!!

As you say not much CA can do but it might be something CA CPA can look into how to manage
