Yes lets get rid of our greats and encourage mid level failures to the club. Its who we are.

While I would not do that trade, calling Corey and Kelly "mid level failures" is beyond a joke

At the risk of agreeing with Lachlan. I agree entirely with Lachlan.

Corey and Kelly are as close to top tier as you can get without being top tier.

Actually I was referring to other names mentioned in this thread but even the Geelong boys...what are we talking about here? Kelly is a mid level midfielder often in the reserves and Corey a great outside player in a superb midfield. Guaranteed if they left geelong to come to Freo (along with Ryder, Coghlan et al) they all end up pedestrian mid tier trades like the many late 20 somethings before them.

Those of you wanting to trade Pav, Schammer and in other discussions sandilands, Haselby..at what point does your connection with the team become so tenuous that the few fantastic long lasting dedicated characters are shopped around for the likes of the names mentioned above..or that we are happy to tank to the eagles so that in 3 years time we posibly get moribito and lucas playing in our midfield? I like our players and as good as they were for the last few years of their careers, the Bonds, Fletchers, Wills, Croads etc are not the guys I think of when I think of Freo.

Freo needs some quality midfielders and Geelong need quality forwards...so how about this deal.

Pavlich to Geelong
In return Joel Corey (WA Boy) and James Kelly (or similar) to Freo.

So trade our captain and best player for 2 players who age next season will be 28 and 26 and in doing so reduce our KP stocks even further?

All this trading talk is making me ill.

If we do trade let it be for picks, do not trade out poo for poo - it kind of defeats the purpose. If we can get a latish pick for a non-required player that is better than one of the picks we will use and it helps someone get to where they want ...do it.

Otherwise let's continue to delist those players who are not AFL standard and replace them with young, eager players who have the attitude and skill set we desire.

On guys like Schammer - we still have poor midfield stocks, he is the type of player who has shown he is a reasonably solid AFL player ...unless we get a very good offer I would keep him.

I can't see any club ponying up a 2nd round pick for Schammer - so there is more value to us to keep him.

If we trade for JON, why not just keep Murphy on the list as one of our 3 guaranteed bye bye players in 2010.

I agree with Moo - but that is essentially stating what goes without saying. If the trade is not in your favour don't do it.

Guys like JON would still cost us a place on the list, we will certainly not trade for them but the spot on the list is valuable. Each draft pick has an undefined/unknown chance to unveil a player, e.g. Broughton. So any trade would have to be miserly and in our favour. Funnily enough this is not always agreed to, or is two teams have vastly different views on a players worth.

While Lyon appeasr to be the master of this, he has a good team. We don't need support players - we need to go for long term prospects. Trades seem to be this as they are not limited to an individual during discussion.

But I would argue that is you pick someone up at 72, they will likely be there until everyone passes and beyond. I think Pearce would be better than a rookie draft pick - and we need to back our ability to develop / change traits. All our young players have done well for a reason.

Well they tried collecting Embley's and that just ended in tears.

I still remember Frank the Spank waxing lyrical about Michael Embley's status as the next great power CHF.

Hilarious stuff.

I wouldn't trade for either Ebert or Pearce personally, but if a suitable player for player or player for pick trade came up I wouldn't be opposed.

Just as long as they don't trade any more picks.

I think the important thing for fremantle from now on is to take the lead of clubs like west coast, and only trade when the situation is either forced on you (judd) or completely in your favour i.e seaby (lets face it, they will probably get a 3rd rounder for the biggest hack of all time)....... other than that, i think we should avoid it, a guy like peake, may attract a 4th rounder, we should jump at it, but trading someone like pav for coreylkelly would just be ludicrous.... i think we are best to recruit and develop our own

How about we chop Murphy and take a player who can actually play footy, not JON?
The optimum decision!

But other posters shouldn't lose their heads. Murphy has, at some point in the past, played good games at AFL level, and does a reasonable job at WAFL level. JON has never produced anything at AFL level and is terrible even at Coburg. Just because Murphy is shit doesn't mean he is as shit as JON. We getting r*ped in that trade. I'd rather just cut Murphy and be done with it.

No, will have to overpay. Has a FIGJAM attitude.

A change interstate may be good for him and his attitude.

I only put his name down if we can get him cheap.
He has 1 year on his contract to run and i read on sunday herald sun he is likely to be on the move.
