I thought he was very good in his first game of the season, will definitely be a key contributor for the remainder of the season. He had strong hands, applied good pressure and just looked comfortable back at AFL level. Great to have him back. :thumbsu:

Agreed. Definetly looked up to the standard. Very good hands. :thumbsu:

Very good return.

Benny looked out of touch.

He will benefit from ther run however.

Clarke awful in the first part of the game, but his second half wasreally impressive. He helped us to win the ball out of the centre.

Was going to say that Clarke had a much better second half giving us first hands to the ball. Great to have the big fella back. Unfortunate for Maric to compromise his position for him but Clarke to have a bigger influence come finals :thumbsu:

Both Clarke and Bock got better as the game went on.

Clarke's ruck work in the last quarter was sensational and will come in handy against teams with better midfields such as the Weagles.

Yes, that's what I thought too. They both needed a little bit of time to get used to the pace and intensity of AFL again and were very good the longer the game went on.
Ben Hart was reasonably quiet but that's because he didn't play the first three quarters! He just needed a little game time to find his bearings and will be good to go next week.
I'll leave the rest of the analysis for the obligatory thread from WW.

Bock played CHF and well, a little rusty but hard at it.

Meesen would have kicked 10.

and our current CHB - how did he go? 9 marks look good stats but were they meaningful?

Tough to say. Did some good things, used his body to a treat in a 1-on-1 contest in the fourth term, but also did some very poor things. Some shocking clangers and poor decisions but overall I thought he was alright. In saying that, Bock is definitely the better option down the track if we are forced to play just one.

Took a long time for him to get on and just seemed a bit slow but long time out for a old boy but both he and Bock will need a few games just to get the body back to AFL standard

For a guy that's played no AFL footy at all this year, that was a good come-back, particularly as he was played out of position.

Clarke embarrassed you and the others that have been bagging the living shyte out of him, Drummond. He sparked our recovery in the 3rd quarter and carried that on in the last. We looked so much more potent in the middle and around the packs with the benefit of his experience. A key cog to a flag IMO.

Hart was given an unfair free ride IMO. He'll benefit from the gallop but he really wasn't AFL ready last night on that showing. However Craigy knows what he's doing though, and with Macca out for surgery, Hart will be needed in the back lines.

Perhaps something to do with it being Roo's 300th? I think it was fair enough that Hart was out there, even if he was a bit underdone. If he got more game time like Clarke and Bock did then I think he would've found his way by the end.

I thought Bocky played very well considering its his first AFL game of the season and he played at CHF.

No doubt he is a better CHB than a CHF but he showed plenty last night and once we get our other key forwards up and running he will go back to defence. It will be a great battle on who plays CHB. Stevens has been sensational this year and last night again he was VERY VERY good.

Bock and West Coast's Adam Hunter are identical twins.

On the verge of becoming topline CHBs who are not only adept defensively, but can also run the lines and create transition - as well as being very good pinch hitters up forward.

With Perrie, Welsh, Hudson and Hentschel in the mix in the coming weeks, Craigy should get a contract with Nurofen.

If Stevens keeps up his current form, Bock is going to find it very, very hard to displace him. Amazing improvement from Stevo. Beautiful skills for a big guy. However, his lack of size could be his downfall.

Do you think Hart would have played for AFC if it wasn't Roo's 300th game? He looked very rusty & relaistically should play for the Roosters next week (but won't).

I agree Clarke's tap work was superb in the 2nd half & sparked our midfield when the game was in the balance.

While Stevens has been plyaing some amazing games this year, he is not in Bock's league. Mark my words, Nathan Bock will end up being one of the best CHB's in the league and a definite AFL star, better than the Hitman and possibly better than Hentschel and Rutten.

If Kenny indeed has OP, I would move Stevens up to the forward line. IMHO, the guy could play handle a forward role pretty well.

Also, I would like to see Hentschel tried in the midfield at some point next year, just to see what he could do, since he's so good at ground level. Might be nice to see if he can play that kind of role in case we need to do something unconventional against an opponent, a la Shane Ellen in the forward line in 97.

Sorry, that's a lot of random thoughts there, ha ha.

Yeah, personally i find it hard to drop a player who has earned his position in the team consistently throughout the year.

Matty Clarke was great last night.
