Here is an exercise...

Pick our best 23 in our AFL team. That leaves 21 more on the list. Leave out a few guys who might not make the VFL team better by playing. So that leaves say 17 AFL players who are automatically in our best 29 or so VFL players. The other 12 would be VFL listed players: Johnson, Yassine, Garner, Harris, Street, El Nour, Olden, Girolami, Brindley, Bravo, Davidson, Wilson.

There are likely to be no more than 2-3 AFL listed players in the VFL team this week. And 5 of the best 12 VFL guys are gone all with long termish injuries as far as I know, Yassine, Street, El Nour, Girolami, Bravo.

So this injury funk is so bad the VFL team will have about 9-10 players available from what would be its best 29. In other words 19-20 of their best 29 will be missing this week.

And the injuries causing that include(as far as I know, happy to be corrected):

ACL x 4 Street, Gibcus, Clarke, Bravo

Syndesmosis x 2 Yassine, M Rioli Jnr

Foot fracture? x 1 Ross

AC Joint fracture x 1 El Nour

Wrist fracture x 1 Taranto

Hamstring tendon x 1 Lynch

Unknown: Girolami

Concussion: Banks, Trezise

Rolled Ankle?: Koschitzke

Soft tissue: Graham, Hopper.

Potentially miss also: Sonsie(hand) Campbell(knee)

Others: Fawcett, Colina back stress fractures.

So we have just got Bauer and Prestia back from hamstrings, but we can otherwise see there are only 2 soft tissue injuries in the whole club. Ross, Colina, Fawcett have stress fractures as far as I know. Beside that you are just looking at a pile of freak injuries or collision related injuries. How our VFL team are sitting 4-2 only beaten by strong teams Werribee and Footscray, I have no idea.

ADEM Yze's match committee for this week's clash with Brisbane could be the quickest on record, with a potential low of just 26 players available.

AFL teams need to name a squad of 26 (23 in the team and three emergencies), and the Tigers may have come away from the weekend with an additional seven injuries across both the AFL and VFL.

The Tigers will be without Maurice Rioli jnr (syndesmosis), Sam Banks (concussion), Jack Graham (hamstring) and potentially also Seth Campbell (knee) and Tyler Sonsie (wrist) – all of whom played in the loss to the Western Bulldogs.

The VFL team didn't escape unscathed on Sunday, either, with James Trezise – on return from an ankle injury – suffering a concussion, and Jacob Koschitzke rolling an ankle.

If Liam Baker (corked leg) and Dylan Grimes (managed) are cleared to return, but all the above seven players are unavailable, Richmond's numbers would sit at 28.

Jacob Hopper (hamstring) remains at least a week away.

Category B rookie Oliver Hayes-Brown is currently playing with Old Ivanhoe in the VAFA competition (a level below VFL) while he builds his football experience, adding him to the unavailable 18.

Waalitj Marawar had fewer than 26 available players on two occasions in 2021 due to COVID-19 outbreaks, but due to the extenuating circumstances, were able to field top-up players sourced from the WAFL.

The Eagles also had to pick all 26 available players (inclusive of two category B rookies) in round eight last year, coincidentally against the Tigers.

On a few occasions in his mid-week pressers through April and early May, coach Adam Simpson said he had 24 or 25 players to choose from, meaning a handful of Eagles emergencies weren't fit to play.

The entire Richmond club has had a horror run over the past 12 months, particularly around re-injuries and soft tissue problems. Yze conceded the club had erred in naming Dion Prestia off a five-day break – the midfielder subsequently breaking down – while Graham has re-injured his hamstring after a week off.

Hopper injured his hamstring in his return from a knee injury, with strapping on the joint proving to be an issue throughout the half he played.

The Tigers' AFLW side also needed to dip into top-up players from the VFLW on several occasions late last year.

Richmond has the opportunity to select at least two players in the upcoming mid-season draft, given the season-ending torn ACLs suffered by Judson Clarke and Josh Gibcus.

Groupie_ This is Lukey Meehan's D Hardwick 2016 year. It is his Tom Cruise film plot crisis of confidence year(see clip below.) We either need to send him to Harvard in the off season, or he needs to meet and fall in love with a good looking woman who talks him into being a better High Performance Manager. Just needs to believe in himself. :)

Great detail. a clusterfart of Prestia, Clarke mismanagement, TT training mishap. Chuck in player selection policy, change in coaching personnel over 2, 3 years, reluctance to use the VFL.

Maybe add Dusty to the soft tissue list. He's playing injury affected.
Its a long list as it has been for 1.5 seasons. The key outs are all 3 of Prestia, Hopper & Tarranto. Prestia retires anyhow so problem averted. TT & JH back will win a few games.

Lynch out for 1.5 seasons so far, the star key forward. in a 2 KPF set up. 13th last year to 17th currently has been disastrous. Balta injury too.

Kosi not being up to it yet Ryan not developing as we'd hoped.

Don't sack Meehan, get rid of the voodoo dolls hope the bad luck passes.

Next year probably got swag of retirements/delistings. OFF field too

Hope Gibus has better luck next time?

pick him up the au ltd

massive boot

Not our main side but our VFL skipper has done his ACL
Absolutely shattered for him anyone who watches our vfl boys would know what a fantastic season he had been putting together from both an on field and leadership perspective
He may of even been in the frame to be picked up in the mid season draft

This season can go and get ****ed
Almost hurts more being a vfl player
These guys work full time jobs outside the program and although they would have income insurance through the league the injury will also impact his life work wise as well

Poor campaigner
Rate him

I'd say the players have had enough and lost confidence in Meehan and the whole fitness staff.

When that happens the fence sitters at RFC have to get off their arses and do something.

That may be so, but what has that got to do with a player doing an ACL. They are a very random injury and little to do with anything Meehan has or hasn't done.

As are syndesmosis injuries, wrist fractures, AC joints, tendon injuries, rolled ankles, concussions, and, probably, soft tissue injuries and stress fractures.

You’re being generous with the Hamstring issues

Terrible news and it was just another nail in our year's coffin. He's been inspirational and led from the front for two seasons now. A massive loss to our VFL boys.
