Inside forward 50's

Essendon won the inside 50's contest only 3 times out of 22 in 2007, yes somehow managed to win 10 games.

This year we have won 1 out of 6 contests.

I do realise that essendon is one of the efficient sides converting from inside 50.

And there are various degrees of penetration into the 50, look at the Carlton/Adelaide yesterday. Once Adelaide ran harder from halfway through the second quarter they were able to enter deeper into their forward 50 and achieve better results.

I realise that essendon has conceded the 2nd most entries into our Defensive 50 in the AFL, which is probably due to turnovers, poor decision making, lack of midfield accountability etc.

Essendon does have more led speed in their team and I believe a quicker ball movement than in 2007.

Why does Essendon have so few Forward 50 entries ?

Is it

lack of run from the half back line,
inabaility to win enough contested footy
Poor skill leevel
Slow ball movement

What is your opinion ?

Turnovers and lack of midfield accountability and pressure. As Knights mentioned, players at the stoppages don't get into the right position and expect us to win the ball leaving the opposition running into space and open

Poor skill level
Player acountability
Inability to slow the game (tempo football)
Defensive skills, being able to shut down run going the other way

Midfield accountability and lack of defensive skills (Midfield). Our midfielders charge forward in hope that we win possession, yet forget/don't work the other way. At the moment we are being easily exposed because of sloppy disposal and decision making.

Since round 1, we have struggled to take the ball inside 50 more then an our opponents. Yet opposition teams bombard their 50 when playing us.

Very annoying and at times
